Carol A. McCloskey Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. McCloskey did a wonderful job with my laproscopic Gastric Bipass. The surgery went flawlessly, without any complications! I did, however, contract MRSA from the hospital that required me to undergo intense antibiotic treatment for three weeks while trying to recover post-op. Aside from that, it was a great overall experience. I have had no complications and am incredibly pleased with my results!

Dr. McCloskey performed my bariatric surgery 4 years ago. She was extremely helpful during my pre-op visits by explaining everything about the procedure. After the surgery, she was the only doctor I saw while still an inpatient. She seemed like she legitimately cared. There was a minor complication during the procedure that extended the time to complete the surgery, but she handled it effectively. As a safeguard, she kept me an extra day in the hospital and was there even to do a pre-release exam. I can't say enough about how competant she is. I have recommended her to several friends who were interested in the surgery. Two of them had it done by her and were also quite satisfied.

Dr Carol Mc Closkey is very nice.. and explained everything about the procedure, and the Hopsital stay--- and she was more than willing to answer my 5 pages of questons... What a GREAT lady--- I feel I am in excellent hands for my surgery; hopefully in Nov. 2010 if all goes well at UPMC Magees Womens Hospital Bariatric Unit, Center of Excellence; in Pittsburgh, PA

She is a very competent surgeon and caring in her manner. The office staff leaves something to be desired. Often she did not have the paperwork she needed and I was left waiting for HOURS in the waiting room or the room waiting to see her. It was like I was forgotten so many times. Her nurse is fairly nice, but is NEVER at her desk for phone calls and sometimes you have to wait more than a day for a return call.rnrnThe only real complaint I have is that after the surgery, I never saw Dr. McCloskey. All of my hospital recovery care was done by a Dr. I had never seen before in my life. I have no idea who this guy was and I had never met him before he was taking care of me post-op. This was never discussed with me and I was extremely surprised to not see my surgeon after surgery at all. This is not to say this man was not competent, because he was. I was just shocked someone else was taking care of me. Also, I spent more time with her students (?) than I did her during the pre-op appointments. rnrnAs far as the time I WAS with Dr. McCloskey, she was clear, informative, addressed how the surgery was to be done, what my aftercare would be both in the hospital and at home, and all the necessary medical information. rnrnI was very comfortable with Dr. McCloskey and just wish she was involved in all aspects of my care more personally.

Dr. McCloskey is an excellent surgeon and I would recommend her to anyone. I had no complications during the surgery, and I have had no problems adjusting to my gastric by pass to date. Dr. McCloskey only makes 5 incisions, AND does not leave a drain.rnrnHer follow up was excellent, and her staff is one of the most courtious that I have incountered.

Hi there i know i was supposed to have my surgery done and over with by now. Instead i have been seeing alot of my friends and family get the surgery done way before mine due to various health complication and few other issues in the home and issues with my insurance. Hopefully all of that is behind me now and i can actually get on the right road to success. A good friend and i are going to magee hospital in pittsburg to get the surgery done. This way we can travel together and help support one another the whole way through the process. As most of us know this is not an easy surgery and you have to have alot of suuport and a stable emotional state to be able to have this surgery and actually have it be successful. I feel that i am finally to that point in life where i can dedicate myself to myself and my friends and family. There just comes a time in life whre you need to put yourself first and now is my time. We go this month for the first class so hopefully by the end of this year we will have had our surgery. The only thing that really concerns me is that i smoke and i have tried numerous things to quit smoking with little or no success. If anyone out there has any suggestions, any at all PLEASE let me know, i dont want that being the only thing stopping me from being able to have this surgery done. rnrnIf you set your mind to it anything can happen. GOD SPEED!

Dr. McCloskey was very personable and down to earth, making her extremely easy to talk to. Her staff and everyone at Magee Women's Hospital was outstanding. They took excellent care of my husband and I, before, during, and so far after our surgeries. We could not be more happy with our decision of surgeon and place of care.
