I was interested in weight loss surgery back in 2007 and was referred by my doctor to see Dr Joyce. I had my first appointment where he went over the difference between each surgery. I liked him and he presented it well ...but I just wasnt ready. I knew it during the office visit. So, I didnt continue on and cancelled my next appointment. Well, 2016 came along and was at my heaviest. I always remembered Dr Joyce and went back to him. So, I went to his meeting and he presented it well like he did years back and I knew I was ready this time to go ahead with his program & gastric bypass. I talked to my other doctors & a nurse who had the surgery performed by him and they all spoke very fondly about him. Every doctor I talked to about him stated that I was in good hands. I felt great about him during my office visits! He is caring& goes over bloodwork & you can discuss anything with him. He listens!! He is very gentle! He makes me smile!!! Everytime I call his office the nurse&staff have always been so kind to me! So, on July 17 2017 Dr Joyce performed gastric bypass on me. I had battles big & small but I would never would chose anyone but Dr Joyce to perform such a life changing surgery! He is the best! I really really like him! I appreciate him! I have lost over 88 lbs and feel great about it! I cant even imagine any other doctor to perform this surgery on me.. Only Dr Joyce! He is very important to me.. he changed my life! So, anytime I have a question or a problem I call his office right away and bug them!! They always help me & Dr Joyce responds! Dr Joyce & BMI Surgery are a blessing to me! I would refer anyone & family members to his office even those who live 40 miles away!! I referred a friend who lives 30 miles away(when she is ready). The meetings BMI hold on the last Wednesday of the month are such a treat! Very informative! I cant see myself missing a meeting. Janelle is the coordinator and she is great!! BMI Surgery and Dr Joyce are a blessing! I love them all! That office rocks! Dr Joyce removed my gallbladder on Dec 7 2017 and I just saw him for my post op! I am doing well! So, next time I see him is on Feb 7 & 21 2018 for my 6th month post op visit which consists of Lab work,Nutrition Class(which is a great class!) & then appt with Dr Joyce. I will miss seeing him & the office during this break but if anything causes me a problem they all know I will be calling in! Dr Joyce is so kind & so is his office! !!!

I have been following the manual supplied by the office and have been able to check with the group when ever I had a question. I have lost over 150 pounds in 16 months. I periodically have trouble with food getting stuck but reflecting back I ate past the point I should have, might not have chewed as thoroughly as I could have or was trying something new. I am the only one controlling what goes in and only I can monitor that input. My experience has been good and I would recommend this practice to any one

I had my Lap band surgery done by Dr Joyce and it was a complete and total failure. I atteneded the weekly adjustments and was constantly throwing up on very small amounts of fill. Every time I would make an appt and see Dr Joyce to tell him that I couldn't keep any food down at all, he seemed annoyed and disturbed that I wasn't progressing as I should. Week after week, I'd wait in the waiting area and listen to all the other patients talk about their successes and how many inches they were losing, pounds lost and clothes sizes changing. I had NONE of those successes to report. I lost NOTHING. A FULL YEAR LATER, my total loss on the band was only 10 lbs. I couldn't hardly eat any solid food and was constantly vomiting and was miserable. I finally made my LAST appointment in Oct of 2011 and INSISTED that this band come OUT. I was told my insurace wouldn't cover removal and that my cost to do so would be $23,000. I insisted the band be completely deflated, as no matter how small the fill was, I was miserable. IT took MANY appts to convince DR Joyce to go along with this. He finally withdrew all the fluid. Today , there are still foods I cannot tolerate, any breads or pork of any kind, and I'm vominting violently for HOURS on end. I fully intend to find another surgeon to remove this horrible contraption from my stomach. My Surgery was Oct of 2008. Its now 2013 and I think I've lived in enough misery. Its time to get it removed. I was told by Dr Joyce this would be major stomach surgery. I'm more apt to have that done than live with it. I Don't eat a ton of food and I'm fairly active and STILL I cannot lose. I am only 5 lbs MORE in weight today than what I was the day I had the surgery. I will find a way to self pay for the removal. The port in my side of my stomach hurts when I lay on that side or bend over. If I had been told at the informational Seminar they gave to try to sell us on getting this done, that they CANNOT REMOVE the band, only Deflate it, which is what they call REVERSING this, I NEVER would have let anyone put this thing in my body. IT seemed the more I complained to DR Joyce of being uncomfortable, the more irritated with me he got that I wasn't following the program. He ended up telling me finally , that there are some people the band simply will not work for. I wish I had known beforehand. Now I'm saving and looking around for a Different doc
to help me out.

My first impression was very good. Before surgery Dr was very attentive. The day of surgery came in said hello and left. Went to sign my permit for surgery and saw a procedure added that was nver discussed.
When I returned to my room following surgery the problems began.
Dr Joyce was irritated that they kept calling him because I was bleeding from one of the incisions that would not stop. His attitude from then on was very ignorate. As time went on the pain never got better, the vomiting continued. His records never reflected the problems, The final visit he told me to return in 1 to 2 months. I hadn't eaten for 3 weeks, was weak and had sever pain in my back. This is called failure to treat.
Had surgery 3days later and spent a week in intensive care and 1 and a half weeks on surgical floor. My band was erroded and I was infected and had multipal abcess' which required removal of may spleen, galbladder and a gastrotomy to remove the band.
Yes he has not been sued because of his poor dictation of visits
He has it all figured out no records no evidence.

If you are having problems get a second opinion, do not wait, I almost died from being so infected and septic and a surgeon who could care less!!!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Joyce is a kind, caring man. I actually work in the hospital where he works. He is very respected and well-liked by all staff. He is a great surgeon. He did my gall-bladder surgery and was so good to me throughout the entire process. His before and after care were awesome. I am looking forward to this journey with him.

His surgical coordinator Cherish is amazing. She is super busy, but has always been supportive and followed thru on every promise she has made. I adore her.

After reading a local newspaper story about a man who had weight loss surgery performed by Dr. Joyce, I researched his credentials on the internet and was very impressed. So I attended an informational seminar at Silver Cross Hospital on January 13,2010. Dr. Joyce explained the weight loss surgery options with such clarity and confidence that he made me feel comfortable and confident about my decision. When I had my consultation on Feb. 3 everyone was so pleasant, helpful and accommodating. When I left any doubts or fears I may have been feeling were relieved. I am almost excited and eagerly awaiting my interactions with them again for further encouragement.

Dr. Joyce and his office staff have been great. They've been very responsive to questions when we've had them. All in all, I'd rate him a 10 of 10. I know that's not very balanced, but, if anyone were to ask me, I'd recommend him, if they lived within reasonable driving distance.

When I first met Dr. Joyce, I was impressed with the follow up he keeps on all his patients, which he uses at the seminars. Him and his staff are very concerned about aftercare. They have a great system set up.
