Dr. Chang is amazing. After being denied WLS locally because I was \"too fat\" I gave up on this dream. After speaking with a friend who saw an old collegue of Dr. Chang, I called the office, found they took my Insurance and my journey was back on track.rnrnMeeting Dr. Chang was exactly what I needed to turn my life around. He didn't play mind games with me, he didn't speak in Doctor language I didn't understand, he didn't make me feel like a lazy slob and he really understood my struggle. But he also didn't sugar coat the problem nor say he could make me the next supermodel.rnrnDr. Chang also made it clear that this wasn't him performing a miracle but that he was my mentor in this new life. He would show me what I needed to do to get the results we both thought were realistic but that the responsibility was mine. By giving me back the power, I left his office that first time feeling like finally, I could do something about this disease.rnrnIn the hospital, and all my support group is jealous, Dr. Chang brought me a picture of my new pouch! Not only was this a very kind gesture but also it was a relief to see that things went well. Before surgery he gave me the much needed words to put me at ease sitting in the pre-op area. Being by myself was hard but knowing I had a doctor like Dr. Chang there with me was more comforting than having my own mother with me.rnrnAfter surgery, again with my husband deployed, I was worried about alot of things. A few days after I got home I got a small peice of a pain pill stuck in my throat. After going into hysterics, I called Dr. Chang's office, it was late, after midnight and I assumed he would call me back in the morning...but no, he called me back 3 minutes later to talk me into being more calm and to help me with it. It wasn't an isolated incident either. Several times I have called Dr. Chang late at night, while he was on vacation even and he called me back within 5 minutes. Do you know any doctors who do that?rnrnI look forward to seeing Dr. Chang every time I go to Victoria to see him. I'm moving to Japan very soon and Dr. Chang has said that he will continue to help me via email. Seriously, he is not just a doctor but he's an angel.

Hello everyone, rn As most of you that are reading this are either thinking about having Weight loss surgery or in the process.rnAfter being overweight ALL of my life with a few exceptions of fad diets that we all have tried,I decided that it was something that I needed looking into further.rnHaving lost my father and and aunt to renal(kidney)failure, diabetes and heart complications, I knew that one that one day it could be me.rnI had a client that went through WLS with Dr Craig Chang and I watched her go thru the process and when I decided this is what I wanted to do I didnt think twice about calling Dr Changs office.I knew from the beginning that he was strict but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.rnDr Chang wants you to be successful in day one and just as successful in the days, weeks, months and years to come. That is where he guides you thru those \"tuff\" times ahead and keeps you on track so the success will be on going. He has ALWAYS been there for me when I needed him.rnYou will not be just number in that file case.He truly cares how successful you become because if you are successful,he is too.

Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Chang was overall very negative. When I went back for my first fill after my surgery, he OVERFILLED me to a terrible extent. I was in so much pain, I couldn't even keep water down. I was up for over 72 hours and had called Dr. Chang several times. I live in Austin, TX, which is about a 3-hour drive from his office and his only suggestion was to drive back to his office. he would not find me a referral in Austin. I also had a broken wrist at the time, so in pain from that and the band and totally sleep-deprived, he wanted me to make a 3-hour drive. I FINALLY found a great doctor in Austin and she pulled out over 3cc's of saline from my band. She said that was more than twice what I should have been filled with. Ever since that happened, I have had problems with my band. I throw up all the time and can barely keep anything down. I have terrible reflux every night and am about to have surgery to fix whatever was damaged by that fill. My new doctor in Austin thinks the band has slipped and/or was not put on correctly and now I have to go back under the laser. I would not recommend Dr. Chang. His bedside manner SUCKS! He was so rude and uncaring to me. I reported him to the AMA.

I had my first appointment with Dr. Chang today and was very impressed with him. I went in determined to have the lap band and now I am not sure. I am hoping that some of you out there will give me some advice. His office staff was great. He took the time with me and never felt he was in a hurry. He is very structured and was strict about sticking to the aftercare. I would rate him an 8. He has both surgical competence and bedside manner. Not to bad to look at either!rnMay 22, 2008. I had the lap band and loved Dr. Chang.

Dr. Chang is excellent. He takes his job very seriously and makes sure you understand the severity of how your life is going to be impacted. His office staff is very nice and supportive since a few of them have also had the surgery. There is a stuctured aftercare program set up. It includes vitamins, periodic check ups, and blood work done at 6 months to ensure proper nutrition levels are being met.

Dr Chang is very knowledgeable and kind. He was very informative pre and post op. His PA and nurse are concerned and informative. After surgery would have been better if there would have been a local support group for just lap band patients, but since the majority of patients are gastric bypass? I would recommend Dr Chang to anyone considering this type of surgery.

I met Dr. Chang in February of 2002. At the time I was honestly afraid of him. Being I was only 23 years old. I grew to deeply respect Dr. Chang and as of May 13th 2002 he performed an open RNY on me at Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital at Fort Polk, LA.rnrnI really wish I could thank him dearly. And let him know that even after going through pregnancy in the past 4 year. I am currently at 115 pounds. And a size 0-2!! I'm healthy, never had any complications. And I'm loving life. For the exception of desperately want plastic surgery. rnrnHe is an amazing man and for anyone to get to have him as a surgeon is lucky.

Dr. Chang is very direct and to the point. He discussed my options with me in detail and even gave me some extra information to read up on. He was very informative and took the time to answer all my questions and help me feel at ease. I was really i mpressed with him.

My first impression of Dr. Chang was that he is straight to the point and doesn't joke around. After some time I learned that he is that way because he has this kind of tough love thing going on. I knew that if i wanted to succeed, it would be him that would help me on my path to doing so. And with time i realized he does smile! The office staff is amazing! Without one in particular, and she knows who she is, I oculdn't have made this incredible decision without her. Thank you so much for helping me realize what was going to be the best for me. Future paitients should know that you need to be serious. I left the first day in tears but came back two weeks later and was ready to make the wonderful change. After care with Dr. Chang is very structured and they really want you to come back. The smiles and b12 shots are worth it alone! Dr. Chang really addressed all of my questions I had and put me at ease. overall I rate him as one of the best out there. he knows what he is doing and is such an amazing person for helping so many people make thier dreams of being healthy a reality.

I met w/Dr. Chang on July 5th. His Nurse Practioner, Ron, was upbeat personable and informative. Dr. Chang was, as previously described, as to-the-point and informative. He enphasizes aftercare and exercise. All risks were discussed. I would rate him as a 9. I believe surgical competence is more important than bedside manner. However, bedside manner is a close second. I've only met Dr. Chang once, for my consult. I will meet again on Aug. 31st for my pre-op.

Update: Now that I am 6 months out, I have gained an even better appreciation of my surgeon and his staff. I have never felt rushed or "herded" like cattle. We are encouraged to call, at anytime, 24-7, if something isn't right. He has a support group which he interacts on most occassions.
