Dr. M gave me hope when no other doctor would! My lap band was a failure from the get-go. When I tried to approach my previous surgeons staff, they were not receptive to helping, only lecturing. When I moved down to Florida, I consulted another surgeon about removal, but he was not on board. I was referred to Dr. Morgenthal, and what a breath of fresh air! He and Flo partner with their patients to ensure every step is discussed, and that everyone is on board. I revised on 12/8/2015, and am so glad I did. I would recommend Dr. M to anyone considering bariatric surgery.

* What was your first impression of him/her?
- Dr Morgenthal was a great mix of concerned, but matter of fact. He gave my wife and I a great feeling that we were doing the right thing.
* How did your impression change over time?
- It really hasn't changed much. He seems more like a partner. The day after surgery, he came up to me and said, 'how are you doing buddy?'. Laying in a hallway waiting for tests, I really felt alone, but after this I knew he was taking ownership of the process and wouldn't let things go wrong.
* How would you describe his/her office staff?
- Most are pretty good, but still not perfect. Much better than other local offices I've dealt with.
* What did you like least about him/her?
- There really wasn't much. I am a logical kind of person and don't need much emotional support form a doctor. Some people may need more of that than he gives, but how many doctors have time to sit down with you for an hour?
* What should future patients know about him/her?
- He is professional and will get the job done correctly. He does the three different kinds of weight surgery and recommended the best one for my situation. This saved me from coming back for another surgery.
* How much does he/she emphasize aftercare?
- I really didn't need much, so I am probably not a good person to answer this.
* Does he/she have a structured aftercare program?
- Yes. I know exactly and how long I will need to do things.
* How did he/she address the risks of surgery?
- He told me the nationwide stats, then told me I really shouldn't worry about them, everything would be fine.
* How would you rate him/her overall?
- I think he is excellent. He suggested the sleeve surgery for my situation and told me about his experiences with the band. He explained why the sleeve is better for my situation and the band can be better for others. This saved me from having a second surgery in the future!
* Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great?
- Surgical competence! You can find others to get support from, but only one person does the surgery.
