I Had my consult with Dr. Shepps in Jacksonville on 2/2/05. I really looked down on the Navy Hopsital, but after talking to him, that all changed. He described the surgery in great detail and went over the risks and benefits of laparoscopic Gastric Bypass RNY. Tricare doesn't approve Laparoscopic surgeries, but Tricare has nothing to do with the surgery if you are having it done at the Naval hospital. He requires that you go through a 4-6 month Pathway Program before your surgery. You go and see him every 3 months for 18 months during his after care program. His office staff was excellent! I would rate him a a 9 out of 10 (10 being the best). The only thing that made me hesitant was the fact that he only has I think 80 people in his program. He only did 25 surgeries last year, but that is b/c the two other surgeons who do this were deployed to Iraq. I still feel that he will be great b/c he could be out there making billions, but instead he is in it to really help people. I highly recommend him to anyone interested in the surgery.
