I had my surgery in January 2005. He has given me a new & wonderful life.

Dr. Mortenson is an excellent surgeon. I would choose no other. He has an excellent reputation & did an excellent job. He is the best there is. I had no post-op pain & I have had no complications. I couldn't ask for a better surgeon. He definitely emphasizes aftercare & does have an aftercare program through the Bariatric Center. He explained the surgery thoroughly & emphasized the risks & complications. His nurse is Phyllis & she is terrific. She has been very helpful before & after surgery & being extremely patient with my many phone calls & questions. His receptionist, Darlene, has been excellent & helpful also. I can't say enough great things & how thankful I am.

He has a structured aftercare program that allows you to use it for 1 year for free. There is an RN & a nutritionist. They are great. You can call them anytime you have question or need advice, etc. You will also see them pre-op & post-op. They give you some great information to read up on & have as a resource. Also, the psych consult is free through them also. The consult takes just a few minutes.

Dr. Mortenson has been great post-op also. He takes his time with you & you never feel rushed.

Also, there is a WLS support group in town that meets every month on the 4th Thursday of the month.

Very impressed with Dr. Mortenson. Very professional and caring and concerned.
My impression of Dr. Mortenson only got better over time. He and his staff are very helpful and very concerned and are there to answer any and all of your questions.
I would recommend him to anyone! His success rate very high and I am very glad and lucky I had him as my Dr.
Dr. Mortenson and his office keep you on track and set your future appointments up for you. They stress the necessity of keeping these appointments.
Before the surgery you are given a detailed portfolio with all the information you need before and after the surgery. Most all of your questions and what to expect are listed.
Dr. Mortenson is very up front and tells it like it is concerning the surgery. I liked that about him. I would rate him very high.
His surgical competence and bedside manner were both excellent!

i had used dr. mortenson for a previous surgery and am very comfortable with him. He just states the facts and you take it from there. His staff has been very helpful and supportive and provide written information which is very helpful. If you are looking for a warm fuzzy friend as well as a surgeon, he may not be for you -- but if you are looking for a competent surgeon he is top notch.

Dr. Mortenson is highly respected in our town. Prior to surgery, everyone I spoke with said he was the best. He is a very straight forward, no messing around surgeon. He will answer all questions, but will not prolong your appointments by chatting. It's in and out. He has a quiet concern for his patients. I personally don't need to be coddled, but if you do, he may not work for you. Don't get me wrong, if there is an issue, he sees to it IMMEDIATELY.I appreciate his no-nonsense appoach. He is very knowledgable, and I cannot thank him enough for his help. Also, all the gals in the office are great! Phyllis is his right hand gal, and she is so sweet, she will answer everything she can and if she can't , she finds out and calls you right back!

My first impression of dr mortenson was he was a very quiet man. Which is exactly what he is. Very good surgeron. I have had no problems with my open surgery and i had previous scar tissue to deal with from gall bladder surgery etc. His staff is very nice and very informative if you have questions. Surgeons are not known for their bedside manner but dr mortenson seemed to have a tad more than ones i have encountered in the past. He is to the point and lets you know all the moves along the line. after care seems to be fine so far but i am only 11 days out of surgery but so far so good.

My initial consultation with Dr. Mortenson went well, if not a bit bland. Let me elaborate;
Dr. Mortenson has a pretty "Al Gore"ish personality: minimal humor, minimal facial expressions, minimal vocal inflections. I.E. bland.
Don't get me wrong, he seems to know what he is talking about but conversely, he readily admits bariatric surgery is NOT his primary field, so he comes across as slightly disinterested in the whole deal. I have heard nothing but positive about him so this trait seems to be no reflection on his competence.
He began the interview by thoroughly explaining the entire procedure both pre, during and post operative. This would be a nice touch for someone who had never studied the surgery and had a "just get it done" attitude, but that is not me nor do I believe that describes MOST bariatric patients. I have studied this procedure for the past 13 months, off and on, and I explained this to him prior to our meeting. He still explained it all to me.
Afterward, he answered all of my technical questions with aplomb, and provided me with enough information to answer any q's I did not think of at that time.
All in all, a positive meeting.

I was impressed with Dr. Mortensen from the first time I met him. He was recommended by my sister-in-law, who is a nurse. His nurse, Phyllis, is also wonderful. She's always been very helpful and never seemed bothered by my calls (which were frequent in the days before the surgery and again after I was home). I liked that Dr. Mortensen made sure I really understood what the procedure involved and that it was a lifetime commitment. He had me see a dietician who specializes in the post-op diet and gave me a lot of information to read.

very nice, soft spoken, to the point Dr. i had seen his work before on premature babies and was impressed with his work ethics. and after the surgery i am still very impressed! i would recommend him to anyone for this surgery or any other he performs. i would rate him a 10!
