At first, I was interested in the Lap Band. After attending a seminar, and a consultation with a surgeon who performed both LB and RNY, I started all my pre-op testing. I had been attending support groups once a month on Long Island. After meeting people and listening to their stories, I decided to research the RNY Gastric Bypass. Someone told me about Obesityhelp.com and I spend hour upon hour researching. I began to notice the posts of the people who had the DS procedure seemed more pleased with their situations than the others. The testimonials intrigued me enough to contact Dr. Herron, a surgeon in NYC who performs the BPD/DS. I emailed Dr. Herron and he immediately responded by email. I set up an appointment for next week. (In the meantime, I am on an Optifast Light Diet with the dietician from the first surgeon's office. I hope I can "switch" seamlessly to DS.) LOL

Dr Daniel Herron,
I have met with him twice, and he seemed very personable both times, very informative and anwsered all my questions before I got to ask him. I was very impressed. He took time to outline all the benifits and risks involved with each of the different types of surgerys and the pre and post care involved with each. I found the desk staff to be unhelpfull on the phone, they seemed to not want to anwser my questions, and kept putting me off.. however when I was in the office they were very helpfull.. go figure. anyway bottom line. I would definatly recomend him to anyone looking into this surgery.

I have used email to ask and questions about the surgery with Dr. Herron and he is fantastic and fast about anwsering all my questions, even the silly ones.. Thanks!

Dr Herron is an great surgeon, he was very patience with me. Mr Marcel was great an a big help for me with my questions. If I had to do it again I would choose Dr Herron. he was very honest and told of my pros and cons were regarding the Lap Band.

Words can not describe, what Dr. Herron has done for me.

He is a wonderful human being. A great Doctor. He represents in total, the word Physician, Doctor, Medical healer.

Anyone that is going thru a gastric by pass would be greatly lucky to have this Doctor attend you. He is efficient, and warm, and thougthful and pleasant. He listens and is compationate. He attends to all your questions and doubts.

My experience was a good one I was lucky. The only bad aspect was that I didn't dump.(that was the reason I opt for the GBP instead of the Pancreatic duod procedure) Which Dr. Herron did inform me I would do better at) but I insisted on the GBP.

(you were right Dr. Herron)

It was an honor to be Dr. Herron's patient.
and I thank you very much.

Greatful in PA NR

Lets see. Dr. Herron is god to me. My first impression of him was he is like a long lost friend. I felt that I could talk to him on a friendly basis. I mean I was so relaxed and understood everything he was telling me because his information was in plain terms. He was not in any type of hurry. I had my surgery on Feb 28 2003. My impression of Dr. Herron has never changed I have hit some bumps in the road and have contacted him weather it be necessary or not and he has always pointed me in the right direction and been very caring. I started with one staff of Irene and Diana Gee and then went to a new office in New Hyde Park and the staff there was alright, but I really like Diana GEE. I have not meet any of the staff in person at his current office but have contacted Amy the nutritionist and Jenifer the NP and they have both been awesome. Amy is the BEST. The aftercare with Dr. Herron is incredible. If you need anything he is there by phone or email for me because I live 6 hrs. away. I rate Dr. Herron above all charts on a scale 1-10 he is a 20 in my book. He is like god of surgery to me. There has never been a better surgeon overall in bedside manner knowledge and aftercare. Thank you Dr. Herron for saving my life from my me and my kids who are 6 and 3.

Dr. Herron was very pleasant and patient. He took time to answer all of my questions and didn't at any time seem to be in a rush to see other patients.
His staff is very friendly.
My only complaint is that I was not informed that they were out of my network until I was partially through my first visit, at which time the financial person came in to explain that the visit would cost me $300, part of my plan deductable.

Seemed Very patient and helpful in explaining options with me. His office semmed a little hectic but Im more concerned with the Surgeon then waiting time. he seems to be a very busy Dr. and after researching found he is the chief of Bariatic Surgey at Mt. Sinai in NYC. Also he is a Associate professor at the Hospital. He has streesed to me that its a 3 way process.
1. he supplies me with the surgery
2. I provide the excercising
3. I keep up with my vitamins
I was told that the Hospital has a large support group that I am entitled to use both before and aft3er my surgery.
He explained to me the Fatality rate is about the same as that of a Gall Bladder removal. Less then 1%.
i am very happy so far with my choice he did come recommended to me by my cousin who has had fantastic results.
I care only about his Surgical Competence. I want to live. To me all the other stuff is trivial. Like complaining about Airline food. forget the Food get me there alive!

My first impression of Dr. Herron can be summed up in one word, relief. I was so nervous about finding a surgeon because I am not fond of doctors, that disappeared within minutes. Over the past 5 months that I have been working with Dr. Herron I have grown to trust him and truly feel confident having him as my surgeon. Dr. Herron's staff is PHENOMINAL! Jennifer his nurse has been so great she has answered every question I've had and has just been excellent. Marcel, Dr. Herron's Medical Assistant has truly been Spectacular. He has been so helpful and even came with me today to have my blood taken, because he wanted to make sure I got the best person to do it, then ended up doing it himself. Dr. Herron has been totally focused on the before and after care of this surgery which is just so vital. His program at Mount Sinai is excellent and I truly feel prepared for this surgery. I would recomend anyone in the tri-state area going to him, he is truly the best!!!

Dr. Herron was very nice, and very wise. I loved my consultation with him. I had a very bad experience at NYU, and was thinking that surgery might not be for me. However, after meeting Dr. Herron and his staff I am very happy to say that I made the right choice. I am hoping to get the lap band. Let me say that Jennifer the nurse there is so nice, friendly and I feel very comfortable with her. Amy, the nutritionist is very nice also. She knows so much. I am hoping to be able to use Dr. Herron staff in the future. They are all so great. I could not be happier with my decision.
