I don't know what to say except that I feel extremely lucky to have stumbled across Dr. David Buchin's name by looking up participating providers on the HIP website. From the first conversation I had with Karla at the front desk to my surgery, I could not have asked for a better experience. I am a health care professional and have a great deal of praise for the way I was treated from the first phone call to the post-op experience with Dr. Buchin. He has a very professional, caring bedside manner. During the initial consultation, I knew I had found the right surgeon as a result of his no nonsense explanation of my situation and the level of respect with which I was treated. I have nothing but good things to report about Dr. Buchin and his staff.

Dr. Buchin and his staff are EXTREMELY professional and super helpful!! He is an amazing surgeon and I was completely prepared for what was to come pre and post surgery. He and his very knowledgeable PA ,Sophia, answered all of my medical questions ANYTIME I had them. I was not blown off by them nor their caring receptionists. The front desk staff kept on top of the insurance company and all of my doctors to get my referral letters in in a timely manner and I was called AS SOON AS the insurance approved me!!! 2 weeks post op...I felt as though nothing happened to me and they all helped me have an easy transition into my new life. I'm now almost 6 weeks post op and have never felt better in my life. They all are literally my life savers....10 years from now I would have probably had diabetes, start of heart disease, sleep apnea, high cholesterol etc. Now? My future is much brighter and will hopefully never contain any of those problems due to the decision of getting the VSG surgery 11/9/11<3

Dr. Buchin is the most talented laparoscopic surgeon I have ever encountered in my personal life and professional career as a registered nurse. He is personable, caring, and spent over 45 minutes with me in the exam room explaining all surgical options, outcomes, plan of treatment, etc. during my initial consultation. Dr. Buchin emphasizes that the surgery is not the "magic solution" and that successful weight loss from bariatric surgery is also comprised of changing bad eating habits and reguar exercise. I had previous open gastric bypass surgery in Manhattan and went to Dr. Buchin for a revision since my original surgeon had retired. My experience during the 6 month prep for surgery and the surgery/recovery itself was excellent. His office staff and Physician's Assistant, Sophie Mcleod, in addition to Lisa Becker, RN (bariatric specialist at Huntington Hospital) are outstanding as well. The education, pre and post-op, that I received was far superior to what I had received during my first surgical experience. I was thourougly prepared for the surgery, knew what to expect, and feel I have received the best possibe tools to be successful with my weight loss long-term. Post-op support groups and nutrition workshops are also available. I highly recommend Dr. Buchin!

Dr Buchin and his staff are all wonderful people. I have been going to his office for 6 months now and I feel like they are all family. Anytime I have a care or a concern they are always there to help. Dr. Buchin is a wonderful doctor who takes the time to get to know all of his patients.
He offers a great support group for his patients before and after surgery. ( he and his staff all attend)
If you are thinking about bariatric surgery I highly recommend Dr. Buchin. You will know from the moment you walk threw his doors that you are in good hands.

I have to honestly say of all doctors I have seen whether PCP or surgeons, Dr. Buchin has been the absolute best as well as the PA Sophie. The office staff is amazing. The fact I can walk in and the staff knows me by name is so awesome. I had my gallbladder removed by the same surgeon who did my band and when he saw me he said I looked familiar. I never saw him after the surgery and his PA said I had psychological problems preventing me from losing weight.

Dr. Buchin and Sophie both came to see me everyday I was in the hospital and that really made me feel comfortable and that they truly cared. The office staff, Helene and Karla were so great with getting me approved for surgery. In the beginning of my journey I was not very motivated to lose any preop weight but after seeing how they treat each patient individually and care about my progress, that definitely made me feel a lot more motivated and the motivation carried out until post-op. I can't wait for my 2 week visit so that I can wow them with my progress and really make them proud.

I have to say I was skeptical. I read some reviews here and some people were concerned that Dr. Buchin was a young doctor. Being a medical student myself, I asked myself would it be fair for someone to judge me based on the fact that I was a young doctor so I decided to make my appointment. I have never been happier with a health care provider. If I could make Dr. Buchin my doctor for everything I would. I plan to continue to go to support group and keep up with the office for years to come. They make you feel like family. Anyone who is looking for a surgeon, this is where you want to be. He is up to date on all the latest techniques.

I am receiving the patient grant from OH, Dr. David Buchin and Huntington Hospital and I cannot believe my luck that not only am I receiving the gift of a free bariatric surgery but I get it have it done by such a great doctor. I am still pre-op but I had the pleasure Dr. Buchin, and his entire team and I couldn't stop smiling. They seem like such a great group of people. I was at an OH event and had so many of his previous patients come up to me and tell me how much they loved him and lucky I am to now be a patient of his. I feel very comfortable in his hands and cannot wait to start the journey.

I had been thinking of bariatric surgery for over one year. Fear and lack of confidence kept me from taking action. My Internist and Endocrinologist raised a greater fear that I would soon face health concerns due to my eating habits, weight, and lack of activity. My daily feeling was sick and tired.

A surgeon was recommended to me and I attended the introduction meeting including a follow up. I was not convinced surgery was for me. I saw an add in the paper for Dr. Buchin's introduction/ support group meeting. The minute I walked into the room..I knew he was the surgeon for me. Dr. B., Sophia, Karla, and Helene were so welcoming. I knew I found my home and I knew with their support that I would be successful.

I wasn't sure what surgery was right for me. Dr. B helped me make the decision based on my eating habits, lifestyle, and attitude. I had lapband surgery on April 13th. To date, I lost 70 lbs and feel like a healthier person. I continue to attend all the support groups, view and participate in our online support, and meet with the office once per month.

Dr. Buchin and Sophia are my saviors. I made the best decision I needed to make for ME and they continue to guide and support me to ensure that I continue my successful journey. I will be forever greatful for them and the tools they provide me. I hope to "pay it forward" and help other people make this important life saving decision.

Dr. Buchin and his team are the best. I'm a pretty picky person especially when it comes to my health and well being and I was extremely satisfied with Dr. Buchin, Sophia, and his office. They are on top of everything, kind, patient, and most of all they know what they're doing. I would recommend them to anyone.

My first impression of Dr. Buchin was very positive. Dr. Buchin and his staff was very thorough when explaining all that would take place before the surgery, during the surgery and after the surgery. I am now 3 months post op. And so far everything is VERY GOOD!

Putting Dr. Buchin aside for the moment, I would like add that he has a fantastic team. His staff is the best I have ever come across. They are the cream of the crop.

Thank You to Dr. Dr. Buchin for giving me hope and Thank You to your the staff for always going out of your way for me!

I first met Dr. Buchin a little over two years ago. I have struggled with weight my entire life and was looking for help. Dr. Buchin met with me and discussed all the options. He answered all my questions and put me at ease. I was determined to get a band as I wanted something that was reversible. While Dr. Buchin felt I would be more successful with a sleeve, he never pushed or made me feel uncomfortable about my choice. He expressed his concerns and then respected my choice.

I followed the pre-op plans and on December 30, 2009 I had a realize band put in. The surgery was about as painless as it could be. We were in and out of the OR in less then an hour and I went home the same day. The follow up was excellent and I could not find fault with any part of the experience. I had great success initially until I stopped embracing the supports. I stopped going for follow up appointments and did not get the band adjusted. A year later I had put on most of what I had lost.

When I finally went back to Dr. Buchin and asked for help he was there for me. Not once, in any way, did Dr. Buchin make me feel like a failure. He was supportive with both surgical and non surgical remedies. And, after careful consideration I decided to have the band removed and converted to a sleeve. As this was the procedure Dr. Buchin originally recommended he would have been justified to tell me " I told you so". But the words never came. As was his style from day 1, he was supportive and comforting.

My lead up to the sleeve surgery was a comprehensive set of pre op classes and support groups. I had a pre op diet to get me ready for surgery. And, just as important, I had the support of Dr. Buchin's amazing team. Sophie, Dr. Buchin's PA, is a superstar in her own right. She is increadibly knowledgable and every bit as caring and empathic as Dr. Buchin. Karla and Helene in the office were always supportive in helping me get my clearances and worked with my schedule to make sure I could always get in to see Dr. Buchin. The whole team is the picture of support and professionalism.

Dr. Buchin and Sophie both saw me the day of the surgery to check in on me before I went in to the OR. Actually Dr. Buchin saw me twice. He went over all points of the surgery even though we had done it before. He took the time to ask if I had any other questions and answered my families questions. Once again the surgery went off without a hitch. The minute he was finished, Dr. Buchin was in contact with my family. Both he and the team at the hospital kept them informed as to my progress every step of the way.

Post op Dr. Buchin checked in on me. He was there when I went for my swallow study the next day. He insured that my pain management was taken care of, although there wasn't all that much pain. I am now 8 days post op and am fine. I am driving and am really happy with my decision to go in this direction.

I owe Dr. Buchin a lot of credit for these experiences. He is nothing short of a surgical rock star, a Jedi master. He is talented, capable, competent, empathic, compassionate and all things you want in someone with whom you entrust your life and long term health.

When you pick a surgeon DO NOT settle. Go with the best. And I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that Dr. Buchin and his team are it.
