I was satisfied with my consult with Dr. Geller, particularly his comprehensive overview of the procedure, what to expect and Q&A he did with the group that was in attendance that day. I've only met him once, on the day of consult. I have found his office staff to be helpful, in general, particularly Ashley and Donna. I'll share more post-op.

I only had my first meeting with Dr. Geller after an obesity seminar where he went over all aspects of the surgery, pros and cons. He seemed very knowledgeable and addressed my personal concerns when I met with him one-on-one. Office staff is quite friendly and knowledgeable also. Personnel are way over worked. Need more people to get patients through registration process faster, when having the obesity seminar. He continuously stressed aftercare and the importance of following his guidance. As of now, I prefer not to rate him until I have had more contact with him. Will let you know more later.

The seminar I attended was addressed by Dr. Shina with Dr. Geller in attendance. First this worried me as Dr. Geller didn't say anything and everyone in the room appeared to be there for Dr. Shina. However, after speaking with Dr. Geller one on one my comfort level was much better. Love his office staff, Glenna has been great to work with, Christina has also answered any question I may have posed. I was glad to hear that aftercare with both Doctors is very important. This is a life long process, it is nice to know there will be someone around to help me on my journey. You know I've thought a lot about this and have decided I really don't care about a doctor's bedside manner as long as they treat me with respect and do not talk down to me. The most important thing to me is their surgical competence. After all if they aren't good at what they do, it really doesn't matter about the bedside manner, you might not need it.

Dr. Geller seems very nice. He seems to know this surgery inside and out (good!) At the consultation he talked for at least an hour, maybe more. He was very patient and very through. He answered everyones questions. He talked and talked and never made me fell dumb for asking a question. Then he took each one of us back and talked to us one on one. The only thing he didnt mention was the requied psycholoical evaluation. He addressed all the risks of surgery and was sure not to sugar coat it. He makes you know that they are real but are rare. I would rate him a 8 out of 10 just cause no one is prefect. :)

My first impression of Dr. Geller is that he comes of very friendly and knowledgable of the surgery. He spoke with us for a long time in small room where we were all cramped in together. He answered all questions and I found him very nice. His staff was also very nice and courteous. I would definitely recommend Dr.Geller to anyone who is thinking about the surgey. I give him a 9 on a scale from 1-10.

I was pleased with the surgery done by Dr. Geller. I was his first gastric bypass, although he had been assisting Dr. Shina for some time. I have had no problems since the surgery. Dr. Geller has been very helpful in scheduling my follow-up visits since I live 4 hours away from Louisville.

However, I have not been happy with the billing process in his office. I have called several times and asked for a bill to be sent to my insurance company. They have called me waiting for a bill. My surgery was August 22, 2002. It is now January 2, 2003 and I still have not seen a bill.

This is a big problem because it is holding up payments to other health care providers. I had $1000 out of pocket maximum. Dr. Geller required $1200 before the surgery. Since I have not received a bill reflecting this pre-payment, my insurance is unable to pay 100% of the other bills.

I have called, I have had Donna with RightWeigh call. Still nothing. Real Bummer!!

I was very impressed with Dr. Shina--and I do not impress easily. I found him to be extrodinarily bright and and surprisingly funny--while at the same time pulling no punches about how how the Roux-en-Y will change my life. He didn't hesitate to describe the hoops through which I would have to jump and how I would have to be responsible for following his plan for success. He can be very abrupt in the tone of his answers--but it is clear that he cares about the work he does and the patients he helps. He leaves no doubt as to waht you can expect both before and after the procedure.

I was asked if I wanted to wait for Dr. Shina or if I would like to scedule an appointment with Dr. Geller. I am more than happy to let Dr Geller perform the procedure--he will be supervised by Dr. Shina--but I believe that Dr. Geller is at a point in his training that it is more formality then anything else. I do find it reassuring that Dr. Shina will be present as I have a lot of adhesions from the 3 C-sections I had done previously. I liked Dr. Geller when I consulted with him--especially since I come from a medical background and can't stand having things over explained!

One thing made me very curious--Dr. Geller has a weight problem--and I was really wanting to ask if he has concidered the surgery and if he has not--why not.

Dr. Geller presents himself as knowledgeble, efficent, and professional. I was told that Dr. Shina assist him in surgery, and Dr. Shina is very knowledgeble, professional, up front with the facts, demanding on the diet. They presented an efficent health care program for Bariatric Patients.
I have faith in God, and I believe both men are capable of being able to perform the surgery. Both were kind, laughed, and answered questions in depth, even went over on the alloted time that they had, and the Nurses had to remind them.
WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW ABOUT HIM? He's not smart, he's intelligent, so Rest assured, you're in good hands. Love the in depth knowledge, his explanations, and his dedication to make you understand the depth of this procedure.
OFFICE STAFF- Seemed caring, professional and willing to assist you. Overall, not a bad team.

Overall Rating: 10 out of 10. Nothing like having a surgeon who knows his job.

Which is better, Surgical Competence, bedside manner, or both?
The Surgeon should be Surgically Competent. If he can perform your surgery correctly, advise you of how to care for yourself following surgery, then he has completed his job.
