Dr. Lauter is a very knowledgeable and understanding doctor. He really cares about his patients. The office staff are also very kind and helpful. They were super quick to get my approved (less then a week!) and have been fast at responding to calls and setting up appointments. They made me feel comfortable and not as nervous. Dr. Lauter does suggest you join a support group, and thinks that OH is an excellent place for that. He was very open and honest about the risks of surgery, but also explained the risks of NOT having surgery. He made me feel very relaxed and answered all my questions, taking time to make sure I was thru. I recommend him greatly, especially since he did my moms surgery over a year ago with amazing results.

Dr. Lauter is a kind, skilled surgeon, who understands and exhibits a true desire to help the morbidly obese. I researched many doctors in my area, and due to my high BMI (about 63) most would not consider anything but an open surgery. I really, really preferred laproscopic, and when I approached Dr. Lauter about performing my surgery laprosopically, he didn't even flinch. He left me with a sense of confidence that I was in very good hands, and that feeling has never diminished.
The other thing that has impressed me about Dr. Lauter is that he is very "real." He encourages us to do our best, but he does not place the super strict limitations on his patients pre-op or post-op (such as long-term liquid diets, manditory pre-op weightloss, and extreme dietary restrictions post-op). He provides the guidelines that he feels are reasonable, and this approach works very well for me.
If I were starting this process all over again, I believe that Dr. Lauter would still be my choice.

My first impression of Dr Lauter is he was all business and did seem not to have a sense of humor. I picked him for a surgeon because he seem to be the surgeron that has done most lapscopic gastric bypass than other surgeons I had reserched in the State of WA. My lung doctor also gave him a good recomandation as for she knows Dr Lauter and has seen his work. Dr Lauters staff was really nice. I don't have a date for surgery because my insurance is making me do a 6 month doctor supervison diet and weight managment before they will approve me. Right now I'am going on my fourth month.
Dr. Lauter was very knowledgable and explained every thing that would happen from start to finish. He gave me a book to take home to help prepare me for the surgery. Dr Lauter did explain the risks of surgery.

Dr. Lauter is VERY good. He is caring and concerned and professional. He is a man of few words, but definately knows what he's doing. He specializes in laporascopic surgery. I felt comfortable with him and he answered all of my questions. He was very up front about the risks and potential complications. He asks that you have (pre surgery) nutritional counseling, psych eval, heart and lung tests, blood test/screenings, clearance from primary doc. Strongly recommends support groups, ongoing nutrution counseling, labs. When I have had problems (stricture) he personally phoned me back. I would highly recommend him and Evergreen Hospital was FABULOUS, I thought.

I'm now one week post op from LAP RNY with Dr. David Lauter in Kirkland, WA. He is personable, professional, very competent, and reliable. His office staff was great. I often had to leave a message but they always got back to me within a day. My hospital experience at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland could not have been better. I saw Dr. Lauter at least twice a day, had excellent care in the hospital, and was released after two days. I felt so confident in his professional experience. He has a 90 day follow up program. I will see him in 3 weeks after following my "liquids" instructions closely. Dr. Lauter doesn't say a lot, but is very thorough and had plenty of time when I was there to see him. I highly recommend him.

I met with Dr Lauter for the first time last week. He answered all of my questions and seemed very confident which made me feel good. He said I was a perfect candidate for the surgery and that I would be the heaviest person he has done the surgery on (i am currently 398lbs). He said the surgery was easier on woman than men but I was in good hands. I have already met will all the other DR. he asked me to meet with the shrink, nutrionist and my cardiologist. I have done all of the tasks he asked of me and I am now just waiting on the approval from insurance. I am confident about their approval as they already approved the shrink and nutrionist and the previous insurance companies said no way to those people last time. So I am feeling good about that. Dr Lauter said he is about 1 month out on surgeries so as soon as I get approval it should be 30 days from then. His support staff is nice but needed a little push to get started on sending my information to the shrink. Overall I feel good about DR. Lauter and his staff.

Overall I did not spend a lot of time with him. He did not volunteer a lot of information but he did answer all of my questions. This approach worked well for me. I have had no complications (yet), and I am not sure how he would handle it if I did. I got his answering machine more than half the time I called his office, even during office hours. Most likely I would use him again if I had to do it over again.

The first time I met with Dr. David Lauter, he appeared to me as very knowledgeable about bariatric surgery. He patiently explained to me the 2 types of surgery, either the RouXY or gastric lapband method and told me about the advantages and disadvantages of each. He also explained to me about doing his best to do the procedure laparoscopically but there is a chance that it would be an open procedure if the liver interferes or other complications. He also explained to me the risks and benefits of the whole procedure.
His 2 assistants in the office were very helpful in giving information and following up with my primary doctor on any documentation needed in order to submit the claim to the insurance company.
I have read a lot about this doctor and am sure that I will be in good hands. He has made sure that every aspect of this operation is taken cared of like a nutritionist to make sure that I eat the right food and take in the right vitamins, and a psychologist to help me emotionally and mentally for this big change in my life.

Dr. Lauter put me at ease from the moment I met him. He explained my options without bias and left me feeling I was in charge. His office staff is very warm and helpful.
Before surgery, he was very thorough in explaining the procedure and its risks. My entire experience with Dr. Lauter and his staff was very professional and efficient.
Dr. Lauter does not have as much structured aftercare as some of the other surgeons I spoke with, but he does require that you see a nutritionist and a psychologist before surgery. He also has a monthly support group. I have options if I need them, but I can be as independent as I wish.
I am very pleased with my choice. I have not had any problems before or after my surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Lauter.
