The first time I saw Dr. Martin was at my orientation to get information about the surgery. He seemed to very knowledgeable about the surgery and seemed trustworthy. Which was important to me..Since I would be putting my life in his hands. And by trustworthy I mean he didn't make comments that he couldn't follow thru with. For example many Dr.s promise you a mircle behind this surgery and he was very up front about the fact that he will do his part, but the rest is up to you. As far as his staff they are excellent...When ever you have a question someone will get the answer for you. They are very friendly and true. Over time my impression of Dr. Martin and his staff still remains the same. I have been seeing him for 10months now. I can't really say that there is anything that I don't like about him except that he doesn't have an office in Cincinnati, because that is where i live..So i have to travel to Dayton to go to office visits but its worth the travel. As far as after care he has it set up so that you have frequent office visits with him for follow up. During so visits he is most definitely checking to see if you are making those good food choices. He also has support meetings and other groups that are well organized by his staff. Overall I believe as far as the risk involved in having this surgery he was very upfront about it all...I would rate him as a Doctor on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being the worst a 10+. His bedside manner was excellent he came and checked up on me while there. For me surgical competence is most important but a good bedside manner is a plus. I have and will recommend him to others who are interested in this surgery.

My impession of Dr. Martin was very good and reassuring. He seemed genuinely concerned and compassioinate. Over time my confidence in him continued to grow and I felt comfortable with him.His assistant, Jared, is every bit as professional as he himself is. At the time I had my surgery he had a great staff of nurses. The only thing I did not particularly care for was the fact he was so busy and had little time to get into much depth, but Jared filled that spot nicely. It's just that sometimes you want to talk only to the surgeon. They really emphasize aftercare and stress the importance of support groups. I traveled out of state for my surgery so attending their support groups was not very practical for me. I failed to get involved in a support group close to home and I believe this hindered and hurt my sucess.Overall I would rate him as very good. But the hospital staff did not really know the needs and procedures to take the best care of a wls patient.Surgical competence is essential but a good and caring bedside manner is also very important as this is a very emotional and life altering decision. You definitely need someone who is well informed and willing to share any and all knowledge with you if you ask for it.

'I have a deep admiration for Dr. Martin. He was the greatest when I need this surgery. He not only is a great surgeon but he is also a friend. I am now 3 1/2 years out of surgery. I am doing well. I have reduced my body mass incredibly. I am now in a size 8 - was 28. What a difference. Dr. Martin helped me reach that goal. I can not thank him enough. I feel 10 years younger. Dr. Martin is a kind

Loved Dr. Martin. Had surgery on 4/12/05 and couldn't be happier with him and his staff. My daughter had her surgery in January and feels the same way. He is very patient-focused, remembers everyone and their name, remembers personal things about you, just has an all round good bedside manner. I have heard and experienced nothing short of perfection in his surgical abilities. His PA is just as great, although they have very different styles. He does emphasize aftercare and has a structured program. The only complaint I have is that they don't have a message board on their website, but I have substituted this one for that, to meet my needs. I highly recommend him and don't think you could go wrong by choosing him.

When I first looked into weight loss surgery I was scheduled to see Dr. Fallang but because of insurance reasons I was then asked if I would mind seeing Dr. Martin. So of course I said, yes.

In June I went to the informational session that Dr. Fallang has and then I met with Dr. Martin in July 2001. I was so happy that I was given the opportunity to see Dr. Martin because he is truly a wonderful surgeon. He is so thorogh and caring and tells you everything about what your facing when you have this surgery.

The day I had surgery he talked to me before I was put to sleep and he came to see me that night, infact he saw me everyday I was in the hospital. I had my surgery on Mon. morning and went home Thurs. morning.

I did exactly what the dr. ordered and I am very happy with my weightloss. The only problem a year ago this spring I was put in the hospital with a internal hernia or so they thought. So I did follow up with Dr. Martin and he ran a bunch of tests but I put off following up with him and ended up having to have surgery that I needed to have in the summer due to my work schedule and that is where Dr. Curry came into the picture. Dr. Martin wasn't able to get me into until August and I needed surgery ASAP.

The only flaw to this was that I was one of Dr. Martin first patients and my records never got transfered from Dr. Fallangs office over to Dr. Martin's office. So my follow=ups haven't been exactly how they should have been. I have tried several times to get this taken care of buy to no avail. Dr. Fallangs office keeps telling me they sent them. So I kinda got lost in the shuffle.

I can't say enought about these two wonderful surgeons.

Dr. C. was my lifesaver. I'm 3yrs. post-op and even though Dr. C. wasn't my WLS Surgeon, he did repair an internal hernia this past summer on July 16th, 2004. He was the only one that truely cared enough to find out why I was having these severe attacks.

I can't express enough gratitude that I have for Dr. C. and his staff. He truely is an amazing Dr. and so caring and professional at what he does.

If anyone of you are looking for a more than qualified doctor, please don't hesitate to go and see Dr. C. You won't be disappointed, I assure you.

Thank you Dr. C.

I was a little unsure at first - maybe it was just a case of the jitters. But Dr. Martin has proven himself to me! He did a great job and is really wonderful about follow-up.

His staff is top-notch, very busy but caring.

Not only was he good in a technical way, but he has the knack of putting you at ease in his care.

He is very insistent that you become involved in the support group, as well as regular check-ups after surgery.

He was very candid with the risks of the surgery.

I would rate Dr. Derrick Martin an A+. He did a great job on my surgery, left minimal scarring, and was very kind both in the office and in the hospital.

He is a very professional, friendly doctor.

My impression never changed. He is excellent, and I highly recommend him!

They are also great. Very friendly, imformative, and on top of things.
Nothing to dislike, thus far!

He is very experienced in this field.

He is very adamant about aftercare, he has a support group, reunions, etc.
yes, very structured, in fact if you miss two appointments in a row, post-op, w/o calling, you are dismissed from the practice.
He gave an informative 3 hour seminar expalining the risks and rewards of the surgery.
I give him a 10 out of 10
both are great!

Don't be suspect at all! It's all true. Rave reviews!

My first impression of Dr. Martin was that he appeared very professional and knowledgeable about the procedures available.
My impression about him did not change.
He has an excellent bedside matter and well as talented surgerical hand.
His staff in his office are just as excellent as he is..They are always willing answer your questions and provide you with the information you need.
I felt really comfortable with him and his staff.
He really wants you to be successful in your life change. So he really encourages you to eat right and at those follow-up visit he really looked to see if you've been doing what your suppose to do.
So he really encourages you to participate in aftercare and go to your appointments.
In my opinion being in the Health care field I believe you need to be both competent as well as have a good bedside manner to service me.
