I was comfortable with Dr. Nepomnayshy from the first time I met him. Of course, with a surgeon, the most important thing is that they know what they're doing in the OR... I had NO issues, little pain, incisions are all healing nicely.
Everything else has as much to do with the full team of doctors as it does with the surgeon. The before and after care is excellent... my first 4 post-op appointments were scheduled before I had surgery. The preparation is thorough, with required classes and plenty of time to ask any questions. Follow up is strongly emphasized, and they run a monthly support group.
I have to say, in a surgeon I think surgical competence is the most important thing; the physician's assistant, nurse practitioner, dietitians, and the nurses on the surgical floor are the ones who needed (and have) great bedside manner. Not that Dr. Nepomnayshy wasn't great... but I only saw him once before surgery was scheduled, then once before I was put under anesthesia. If I'd asked for him I bet I could have seen him, but the nurses met every need.

Nice guy, doesn't BS, which I like. My impression has remained the same. He's direct and to the point. I'd rather have a top-of-the-line surgeon than a buddy. His secretaries are very accommodating to my annoying requests for paperwork (FMLA, short-term disability, etc.). The whole gastric bypass program at Lahey is a team effort. They don't just crank out gastric bypass surgeries like an assembly line (which some hospitals in Boston do). Your care is interdisciplinary meaning it involves many different medical personel in your care, not just practitioners (dieticians, nurses, nurse practitioners, radiology). My direct patient care post-op wasn't that great, I was in a lot of pain. I would suggest to anyone having this surgery, not to be afraid to be the squeeky wheel. You have to advocate for yourself sometimes. Remember, not only are you a patient, but you're a paying client/customer.

I was very happy with my experiences with Dr Nepomnayshay and the entire team at Lahey. Everyone is very supportive and wants to help. I am very happy that I made the decision to use this center and team.

Dr. Nepomnayshy and Dr. Brams along with Pam O'Brien ,Corrine and Their Dietiticians Karen, Deb and The whole Clinic Backing really made this all possible.. Pam has kept me going and had my back through this whole journey and as my surgury date gets closer it really brings in to full focus how amazing of a job that they all do. It takes Amazing people to do their job they way that This clinic does and without them many people would be lost. I drive almost 2 hours each way to go to this clinic and it is more then worth the time effort and cost .. Thank you so much

Dr. Nepomnayshy was great! I have no complaints at all about the work he did. I would reccomend him to anyone! He was just awesome! He set my mind at ease when I saw him before the surgery. I think surgical competence is more important than bedside manner. He did have a good bedside manner though. I saw him after surgery when I needed to. He is not in your face everyday which is fine with me. rnThe nurses on the floor were ok. They may need more at night to be more attentive to the patients. There was a time when I was in great pain and had to wait a half hour for someone to come. Other than that everything else was wonderful!

My first impression of Dr. Neponmnayshy was great. Very nice and down to earth guy. By the time of my surgery I felt very comfortable knowing that he was going to be operating on me. rnrnHis staff was amazing. They care very much about everyone no matter what the size or circumstance. rnrnEveryone emphasized to eat right take your vitamins and excercise and everything will be fine.rnrnThe only thing I didn't like was the care after surgery. Wasn't the surgeons fault but, the nurses on the floor I was on seemed to be to busy to care for all patients.

Overall Dr. Nepomnayshy was very easy to talk to, he answered all of my questions, addressed all surgical issues that could arise. My initial meeting with him was scheduled 16 days before my surgery, however I rescheduled and did not see him until 4 days before surgery. I do wish I had time to meet him a month prior, when I began my journey into the world of weight loss surgery but this hospital does not assign patients to surgeons until they have lost their presurgery weight. Dr. Nepomnayshy explained the importance of the combination of surgery, diet and exercise -- any one of these failing can lead to a program that does not work. I would recommend him to any friend that my be looking into weight loss surgery.
