Douglas Monasebian Bariatric Surgeon F.A.C.S.

I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Monasebian. But I have to tell you about me before I met Dr. Monasebian. He is the last part of my story, but of course he's the best part!
I had my Gastric Bypass surgery done about 4 years ago by Dr. Peresh Shah in Manhattan. He is the greatest also!! I must say that I have been very lucky to have found such great doctors. Dr. Shah was excellent, he was caring and made you feel so comfortable about the procedure he was gong to perform on you. I never felt as if he were looking at an overweight,unsuccessful dieter looking for the easy way out. Believe me, this is not the easy way out!! It takes a lot of courage to commit yourself to having this type of surgery. You hear so many horror stories and people who weren't successful. The side effects and things that could occur years down the road. After consulting with Dr. Shah and many visits afterwards, I knew I was making the right decision for me, and that's what you have to do it for, yourself and no one else. As I had stated, I was not nervous or aprehensive for one moment. Everyone told me how calm I was about having this life changing surgery. I started off being 330 lbs. Dr. Shah asked me to lose a few pounds before surgery, so I took off about 20 lbs. I had my surgery on February 13, 2006, and have never regreted a single day! I hated the fact that I couldn't eat the way I wanted to anymore, but I knew in my mind that it was best for me and my health. I had high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol; my health was spiraling out of control. And of course I've tried every diet there is out there. They worked for a while and then as everyone knows, you fall right back into that same old pattern. You get tired of eating the chicken and salad and just the whole routine becomes bothersome. After my surgery, I dropped lots and lots of weight. I think in 3 months I had lost over 60 lbs. and it just kept coming off. I began to plateau about 8 months later where my final loss was 135 lbs.!! Unbelievable right? I was so happy with my success. I now no longer have diabeties or high cholesterol. I still have high blood pressure, but down to one pill per day instead of three.
I was so happy with my weight loss that I really didn't notice all this hanging skin!!! It was not a pretty sight, but as with everything, you learn to live with it. I took care of the skin infections and hid most of the hanging belly with long loose blouses. You want to have plastic surgery, but, you hear so many stories on how plastic surgery is so expensive and blah, blah, blah.
One day at work, a colleague of mine told me that she was going to have a tummy tuck and found this great surgeon. Dr. Monasebian, in Manhattan. She had nothing but wonderful things to say about him. She had her surgery and looked GREAT! She kept telling me that I should go, it would make me feel so much more better about myself. I kept telling her, yeah, yeah, one of these days, I'll go. Then about a year later, another colleague of mine told me she was going to Dr. Monasebian for a tummy tuck and that I should go with her, but of course I hesitated and let more time go by. Finally, I don't know what happened, but I felt so disgusted with the way this skin was hanging and the infections I was getting, I decided to take the plunge and go see Dr. Monasebian for myself. Well!!! I was so impressed by Dr. Monasebian that I couldn't wait to have my surgery! He was patient and explained every detail as to what was going to happen to me, what to expect and not expect. He told me that he usually did most of his work in his office, but I had so much work to be done, that I would have to go into the hospital for this surgery. I was so impressed with him, that I didn't care. He worked with me with my insurance and the payments that I would have to make out of pocket. He was so nice about everything. I was not once embarrased while he was examining me, photographing me and showing me what he was going to do. In the hospital he was comforting and supportive. He even brought his own music into the operating room. I thought that only happened in soap operas!!! After the surgery, he visited me in my room, asked how I was feeling and told me that I would be going home in the morning, and by the way, "I took off a total of 15-16 lbs. of excess skin!!! Can you imagine that? Unbelievable.
My follow-up visits were great. He took the time to make sure that all my drains were working correcting and doing what they were supposed to to, by the way I had 6 drains...Normally, people only have 4!
Well today, I am a very happy woman. I have the shape that I was looking for. I'm not a barbie doll, I'm normal and so happy. Now, I want to have my legs done and my arms and my breats and Dr. Monasebian says, "one step at a time Marie." If you're in Manhattan and looking for an excellent surgeon who is caring, understanding and a perfectionist, Dr. Monasebian is the doctor for you. I loved going for my follow-up visits, because not only was I getting excellent care, but I felt as if I knew the staff all my life. They made you feel so welcome, not just a patient or an insurance fee, they make you feel great!

Dr. Monasebian and his entire staff was wonderful! I had liposuction of my chin and neck in 2007 and have loved the results. They took such good care of me during my procedure and were so comforting and encouraging during the recovery period. I recommend Dr. Monasebian to all my family and friends for any cosmetic procedure they maybe considering. I highly recommend Dr. Monasebian because he pays very close attention to detail and takes the patients interest to heart. His office is modern and his staff is also highly trained, which is important to me too. Dr. Monasebian spent time explaining the procedure and the expected outcome. He followed up with me and I am very satisfied with the results!

Dr. Monasebian performed a tummy tuck on me in November 2008. I was referred to him by a friend who was very pleased with her results and after my consultation I knew there was no need to look further. He gained my trust and made me feel at ease along with his warm and caring staff. I didn't really appreciate what he did for me until I started looking at before and after pictures of tummy tucks online and I must say with all honesty my doctor did an excellent job. His expertise as a surgeon and his pre-op and aftercare instructions enabled me to return to work in less than two weeks.
