First impression of Dr. Hess was real nice guy who really cared. I still feel the same way, as he cares about his patients progress. His staff is very helpful. There is nothing I didn't like about my Doctor. He emphasizes aftercare and I still see him after 8 months. I don't know for how long but my next apt is in a few months. He addressed the risks of surgery well and let me watch video, gave me plenty of phamplets to read and plenty of time to think about my decision. I would rate him a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10! His surgical compentence and bedside manner are also excellent. He has answered many questions and calmed me down when I was nervous about something. He let me call him at home when needed too. I would strongly going to Dr. Hess in Bowling Green as he is one of the best there is.

I liked Dr. Hess from the very first time that I met him, he was very open and up from about overweight and obesity, I didnt feel like I should be ashamed of myself for being overweight. I didnt have any problems with the office staff if I had to call in with a question they answered my questions. I dont have any problems with Dr. Hess as of yet. You can tell when you talk to Dr. Hess that he is concerned with the overweight patient. He stress's how important it is to keep in touch with him after surgery and there are many ways that you can do that after your first year of surgery. He has a meeting once a month at Wood County Hospital and you weigh in and he tells how the surgery is performed and the different types of bariatric surgery. He explains the risks and the benefits as in helping diabetic patients and persons on blood pressure medicine. Also, there is a question and answering period for new patients and patients that have had the surgery. All in all I think that Dr. Hess is a great Dr. and I am glad that I had the surgery done!

I liked Dr. Hess from the very start, he is very
informative, and takes his time to answer all
your questions. I really didn't get much chance
to interact with the office staff yet, but what
little I did they seemed very nice. He emphasizes
the after care very much. He especially talks
alot about the vitamins and things you will need
to take after you are post op.

Dr.Hess was very thorough in his explanation of how he does the surgery and why he does it this way. He is very busy, but if you ask him to he will stop and take time to answer all your questions. The office staff is very informed and can answer your questions. He stresses that you must take your vitamins and have your lab work done at regular intervals. He was very upfront about the possible complications from surgery. I would rate him as #1 in his feild, although at times his bedside manner could be better.

My first impression of Dr. Hess was good. He seemed very sincere and knowledgeable.
My impression hasn't really changed about Dr.Hess.
His office staff are overworked and the office is small. But generally, helpful.
The office visits (post-op) were very quick, he has alot of patients to see and is often interrupted with phone calls and staff. I forgot alot of my questions!
About the office visits being rushed.
They do emphasize about complications after surgery, post op care and follow up. I did not think they stressed enough about how your diet should be.
He does see a pt after 1 week post-op and then 6 weeks, then 3 months,6 months and then your year check up.
Yes, he did address all of the risk due to surgery.
Overall, I would rate him at a 8 in a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the highest.
The surgical competence is great, but beside manner is good, but not great.

I WAS REFEERED TO DR HESS BY SEVERAL OF HIS POST OP PATIENTS. I HAVE BEEN TO HIS INFORMATIONAL MEETING AND HAVE TALKED WITH HIM AND EVEN MORE PRE AND POST OP PATIENTS. HE WENT THROUGH THE SURGERY STEP BY STEP AND ALOWED PLENTY OF TIME FOR QUESTIONS, BOTH IN THE GROUP SETTING AND LATER ONE ON ONE. I CAME AWAY WITH MUCH MORE KNOWLEDGE AT NO EXPENSE TO ME. IN BEGINNING THE PROCESS TO MOVE TOWARD THE SURGERY IT SELF, HE AND HIS STAFF HAVE BEEN VERY KIND AND HELPFUL. IT IS ALSO GOOD TO KNOW THAT THESE MEETING ARE OPEN TO ME ON A MONTHLY BASIS AFTER I HAVE MY SURGERY SO THAT I MAY APPROACH ANY CONCERNS OR QUESTIONS NOT ONLY WITH DR HESS, BUT WITH OTHERS WHO MAY BE LIVING IT ALSO. SO FAR ONLY A POSITVE EXPERIENCE, BUT IT IS STILL EARLY. I LET YOU KNOW HOW WELL HE AND HIS STAFF KEEP UP.

Dr Hess has been doing the DS proceedure with great successs for many years and over 440 patients! Bowling Green Hops. is actually where I was born and close to my mother's residence!
The office staff was most courteous and has handled many patients in regard to DS surgery. Dr. Hess even has chairs suitable to us "larger than life" people! It felt great to set in an "oversized" chair and turn sideways - comfortably!
Dr Hess is getting on in years but is very alert and full of life and caring. He has added an associate to his office, Dr. Oakley who seems a most respectable doctor.
After care is emphasized a LOT! Vitamin suppliments, calcium, office calls to either his office or your local physician and info sent to Dr Hess. It is stressed how important follow-up visits are!
ALL issues of surgery are addressed. In my initial visit, I viewed a very informative video which talks about the proceedure, before and after tests, dietary needs afterwards, benefits and possible coimplications... It's ALL in there!
My older brother researched DS Surgery for nearly 2 years and decided on Dr. Hess. His surgery has been successful and litle to no complications aside from some depression issues. My brother is excited that I am going forward with this through Dr. Hess. (more as it happens...)

Dr. Hess was wonderful on my first visit. He spent quite a bit of time with me which really impressed me. I had been to another Center and was not impressed so I was thrilled when I found Dr Hess. His staff was friendly but seem to be very busy. He emphasized after care stressing how important it is for you and for future patients to know what kind of problems you might be facing.

Actually Dr. Oakley, (Dr. Hess's partner) performed my surgery. He is a super nice guy with a great bedside manor. My initial visit was about an hour with him..he explained in very very explicit details, what the surgery entailed. He was laid back and I was very comfortable speaking with him. He is a great Doctor. I seen him on Nov 28th 2001. He had a letter sent to my insurance that same day asking for a review and approval for surgery. I started calling my insurance immediately. I got approval on Dec. 12th. I called the office and the staff was great about getting me "IN". My surgery was moved up till Jan 8th. No time for looking back...it all happened so fast.
