Dr. Smith is an AWES

Dr. Smith is an AWESOME surgeon. He is very thorough and answers all questions. He was originally in private practice, but is now employed by St. Elizabeth Healthcare in the Weight Management Center. He is very caring and known by the hospital staff to be excellent technically. Would highly recommend!!!

I would NEVER recommend Dwayne Smith for any type of surgery. I had gastric bypass at Vanderbilt in January 2008 and that went great. However I started having gall stone attacks in November 2009. Dr. Smith was recommended by the ER doctor. I met with him and had some reservations due to his affect and his bed side manner (which are both horrible). He took a simple procedure and botched it. He cut my bile duct without realizing it. Therefore causing an entire year of having to have a tube in my side at all times to try to help the duct close on it's own. Finally in July 2010, the doctors at another hosptial trying to fix me decided that I had to take another course of action because there was too much damage done by Smith. Needless to say I had to have part of my liver removed to fix the problem.

Dr Smith in my opinion is totally awesome, when I first met him, I had already completed my psych eval, and at our first appt, I completed the nutrionist appt. On my second appt I took my support team in to meet with him. He has been the same from day one, always ready to answer any of my questions. I am 2 months post op and I look forward to every visit with him. His Office staff is the same way always ready to help, and up to the day I had surgery, I had plenty of questions and concerns and they helped me through all of them. If you want a great doctor I recommend Dr Smith and his staff. Attend the seminar and support group meetings that are held once a month, I'm still learning, but I'm also winning at the weight loss game thanks to Dr Smith.

I have known Dr. Smith for over 20 years. He is an EXCELLENT physician and I would not trust anyone else to do this surgery.

He is very serious, genuine. rnHe is straightforward, he is a very good surgeon.rnThe office Staff is very nice & helpful.rnHe is all business.rnThey encourage you to follow a healthy diet & exercise to maintain and keep optimal results.rnThey at this time to my knowledge have a structured aftercare program.rnDr. Smith told me all the risk of surgery.rnDr. Smith is an excellent surgeon. rnI would say Dr. Smith does lack in bedside manner, BUT I WOULD RATHER HAVE AN EXCELLENT SURGEON THAN HAVE SOMEONE WITH EXCELLENT BEDSIDE MANNER & MINIMAL SURGICAL SKILLS.

At first I was apprehensive of Dr. Smith. He seemed quite reserved. AS time has gone on, I feel realize that is her persona. It does not stop him from sharing my excitement as I continue doing well. His staff is awesome. Any time I call with questions or concerns that help me right away. When I was sick they took care of my issues immediately.

I have nothing but praise for the way my surgery was handled right from the beginning. Dr. Smith was very professional yet caring and has taken the time to help me with any questions I have had. He has encouraged me to be strong and be healthy. My surgery went exceptionally well with very few problems of any kind. The only problem I have had is dealing with the insurance for the yearly blood test for follow up visits and getting all of the test covered due to insurance codes and rules. But that is minor for the change I have had in my life.

My doctor is Dr. Dwayne Smith in Edgewood, Ky. I really liked him after the 1st meeting. I've seen him a total of 3 times and each time he makes me feel more and more comfortable about having this surgery. rnI was really impressed when he said that hernwanted to talk with my husband to explain all the risks and complications that can occur with this surgery. He just wanted to make sure that we both new everything. I'm now just waiting to hear from our insurance company to see if it is approved. If you ever need any advice on Dr. Smith I recommend him 100%.

My first impression of Dr. Smith was good. He seemed nice and knowlegdeable. His office staff was wonderful. He seemed to genuinely care about his patients. rnHe explained the certain risks including death that are associated with gastric bypass. rnI was overall very happy with Dr. Smith. He did seem a bit rough around the edges. This was not a turn off but might be to someone who wants a very \"loving nurturing\" surgeon.
