Edward Chekan Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.
I found Dr. Chekan to be very professional. At first I thought he was extremely harsh in his manner; but I later realized that it was necessary to get the importance and dangers of this type of surgery across. I had done my homework before ever seeking a doctor. Many people do not. I think he is very thorough and emphasizes the dangers and expectations of life after surgery as well as the surgery itself. It is important to be prepared to follow the instructions and to be prepared to accept what is to come.
I met the nutritionist and his Nurse Assistant, Hilary, who both gave me very good information and helped me to understand the order of the procedures.
I first met him on August 9. My follow-up was on November 1 and my surgery date is December 12.
Dr. Chekan seems to be a very nice man, very willing to listen and very forthcoming. Gladly answered all questions. I have been very impressed with the office staff. It is a very busy office, but I have never waited more than 5 minutes to be seen. His patient coordinator, Hillary Blackwood, is teriffic. Very available, handled all my paperwork for work(disability,FMLA). Even handled the dingbat masquerading as HR rep. The aftercare is an important part of their program.
My first impression of Dr. Chekan was that he was very straight forward. He let me know all the risks. He took the time to talk and was very willing to answer any questions I had. His staff was very nice. The waiting room was full, but my wait was amazingly brief. Dr. Chekan made sure I talked to his whole staff, and everyone took care of filling me in on every aspect of the procedure, but at the same time kept me very at ease. The only thing that I wasn't happy with was the material that they are suppose to send you before the appointment. They didn't. They had run out of copies of it, so I was trying to read the one they threw together for me while I waited. There were pages missing and I would have to get them to go get them as I read, and discussed everything with the staff. I would have been more prepared with questions had I had the opportunity to go over it first.
