Dr. George Fielding, Bariatric Surgeon

Dr. George Fielding has been performing bariatric surgery for over 25 years and general surgery for 37 years. He earned his medical degree in Brisbane, Australia at the University of Queensland and completed surgical training at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. He further completed advanced training in laparoscopic surgery.

Dr. Fielding’s interest in bariatric surgery led him to found the Wesley Hospital Obesity Clinic in Australia. He is a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons and the Royal College of Surgeons of England and an honorary fellow of the College of Surgeons, Glasgow.

Dr. George Fielding is a bariatric surgeon with the NYU Langone Weight Management Program; he is also an esteemed Professor of Surgery at NYU School of Medicine.

Bariatric Surgery Pioneer - Dr. George Fielding

A pioneer in the field of bariatrics, Dr. Fielding, participated in the early development of laparoscopic bariatric surgery and taught surgical techniques to surgeons worldwide. Known as a pioneer of the Lap-Band, he has performed more than 10,000 bariatric surgeries and is experienced with operating on the super obese, adolescent weight loss surgery, as well as revisional surgery. Dr. Fielding also performs the gastric sleeve and gastric bypass.

As a leader in bariatrics, he has participated in bariatric surgery research and published over 150 book chapters, abstracts, and journal articles.
