He is a very nice and Christian man.

He is still very nice and pleasant. But, he is NOT crazy about this type surgery and any drastic weight loss. He does not like to make the pouch too small.

He and his office staff are extremely pleasant.

He does not want to perform this type surgery because of malabsorption.

He would rather the patient stay a little heavy than to lose a lot and have complications.

In my case he had me coming back very frequently. I had a feedingtube and he monitored my weight lose closely. I had many complications and had to have 9+ more procedures, another revision surgery, and due to infection and leak and other complications more hospitalizations.

He does not really have "structured" aftercare, as he does not specialize in this type surgery.

He is very in-depth about ALL the risks involved. He reiterates them and makes sure you understand. He involves your family and caregivers BEFORE agreeing to operate to ensure they are aware of the risks.

I do like him as a person and surgeon, however I do not recommend him for gastric by-pass surgery mainly because of his feelings about the extreme weight loss and malabsorption. For any other general surgery I feel very confident in recommending him.

He is a good surgeon and he is pleasant. Again, he is not really suited to be a gastric by-pass surgeon, but only because of his feelings about extreme weight loss and malabsorption. He is a very busy surgeon and therefore does not have a lot of time to sit and chat endlessly. But, he does get to the point and asks you questions to make sure you understand what he expects or what you expect of him.

He seemed really busy. He was very upfront with me. It seemed that he stuck to the facts and spent less time being nice. I found, in time, that the reason he seemed really busy is because he is constantly trying to touch base with each of his patients on a regular basis no matter what stage of surgery they are at. The office staff was always helpful and kind. He doesn't sugar-coat anything at all. I was constantly nervous about whether I would live or die because he told me the risks and benefits of the surgery EVERY SINGLE TIME. That was quite scary. He emphasizes aftercare a lot. Basically, he kept saying that no matter what he does, if I don't do what I am supposed to, this surgery will be a failure. There is a structured aftercare program, but the Dietician takes care of going over most of that with you. I really liked Dr. Liu, even though I wasn't really sure at first. I think that bedside manner is good for a doctor to have, but even though that was what I liked least about him, I was very pleased with his surgical competence.

Met with Dr. Geller on October 14, 2002 in Jeffersonville, IN. He seems nice enough but I really didn't feel that comfortable with him. The only thing good about it is that Dr. Shina usually stands in with him on alot of his surgeries. I had a scope done by Dr. Geller on October 21, 2002. I was not too thrilled by him that day. I have to go back November 11, 2002 to have upper x-rays.

I changed surgeons for I didn't feel good about Dr. Geller and still don't. I met with Dr. Liu and I felt comfortable with him right off the bat and I liked the idea of him being a christian. I really like his staff they are very nice and friendly and so are the people at the hospital.

I really really like and respect Dr. Liu and I am glad that he was my surgeon. I do not like the hospital where I had my surgery, which made my seven days in the hospital very very miserable - very poor patient care even though my Mom and Dad were helping me advocate for myself and get what I needed. Therefore, I recommend Dr. Liu as a surgeon, but I do not recommend having gastric bypass at Baptist Regional Medical Center. See the hospital page for my review of them.
