Gilberto Ungson Bariatric Surgeon MD

Dr. Ungson is an extremely good surgeon. He works with two other surgeons as a team. I fondly referred to them as, \"the Three Amigos\", while under the influence of a heavy duty drug. Luckily, they didn't seem to mind! All three surgeons checked on me carefully during my stay. Dr. U is very busy, but always took the time to answer any questions that I had. When I was in an appt. with Dr. U, I always felt that I had his full attention. The support staff was wonderful. The liason and the nurse were very good at \"hand holding\" and fixing any problems my SIL or I had. My aftercare program is my responsibility. I knew that when I chose to go out of the country as a self-pay. The liason has emailed a few times to check on my progress. However, if I have a serious problem, I know that Dr. U and team are only a phone call away.rnI would highly recommend Dr. Ungson and his team to anyone. I would send my mother, my sister or my best friend to him in a heartbeat.

Dr. Ungson and his team exceeded my expectations from the minute we arrived in Mexico. I didn't realize I was getting a team of doctors and nurses and not just one surgeon. Dr. U and two other surgeons and an internist all perform the operation, so I got 4 highly skilled doctors for the price of one. And each of the doctors came and visited me twice a day while I was in the hospital! The private nurse, Lourdes, came every day to the hospital and every day we were in the hotel afterward. She is wonderful. and speaks excellent English. If we had a problem or concern, she took care of it. She made sure our every need was met in the hospital and out. Amazing! Also, the office manager, Luz, was fantastic. She speaks fluent English as well and was a lifesaver more than once. She handles so many things for us that we just had to sit back and enjoy the ride. Truly, this team of people made my surgery seem more like a week at the spa than surgery! Dr. U has a great sense of humor, relaxes everyone immediately when you meet him, and was very approachable for everything. I recommend this amazing team of professionals to anyone who needs surgery and especially those who are self-pay. Thanks Dr. U and team for giving me a new life. You will forever be in my heart!

I have nothing but positive praises for Dr. Ungson and his team. They were top of the line and I was treated with the upmost care. I came out of my surgery with no complications and at only 2 wks out, I am feeling great. I took 2 indy shirts for my 2 favorites but I ended up having so many favorite people that I just gave the 2 shirts to his receptioninst to figure out. Between the team of 4 doctors that checked on me daily, nurses who doted on me and assistants who went the extra mile and even took me souvenier shopping... I couldnt figure out who I liked best. My advice.. Take lots of t-shirts. hee hee.

A competent surgeon and nice guy, Dr. Ungson's fee includes pre-op, surgery and hospitalization, but no aftercare.

Dr. Ungson was very professional and had an excellent bedside manner. I would not hesitate to refer anyone to him. I felt assured that I was in some of the best surgical hands in the world when in came to performing BPD with DS. He was able to do it completly laproscopically, and this minimized my healing time. The only negative comment I could leave would be concerning the lack of English spoken by the nursing staff. It certainly could have been improved, but Dr. Ungson's English was very good.

Dr. Ungson is an amazing surgeon with a phenomenal record. He has done some very difficult revision cases and really does a nice DS procedure. The care I received at CIMA hospital in Mexico was outstanding--better care than I would've received in the states. Dr. Ungson is a brilliant and world-class DS surgeon. My mother, an RN of 40 years, went with me when I had my surgery in Mexico and was just BLOWN AWAY by how first-class my care was. The hospital is a swanky resort-type place for cash-paying Americanos and upper-class Mexicans. Dr. Ungson's nurses and staff were attentive, professional and incredibly competent. Dr. Ungson is very email friendly, good looking and very professional. He and his staff carry on a very personal relationship with each patient at all times. You can always talk to someone about anything, before, during or at any time after the surgery.

Haven't met but have heard great things. He seems to be up there on the list of great DS surgeons.

My experience with Dr.U and his staff was wonderful! They were so helpful and caring. My husband and I felt at ease right off. DH had already said if we had any doubts when we got there, we would turn around and go home. Needless to say, we stayed! My surgery was a revision from a VBG done in 1984. Dr. U said it took a littlle longer because of scarring and adhesions. The hospital was clean and run very effeciently. I work for a major hospital in the Houston area and CIMA was comprable and in some ways better than where I work. The people at the Colonial Hotel were very helpful and curteous. rnThe only complaint was the concrete bed. DH went to Wallyworld and bought an egg crate! I slept in the recliner. I have had no complications at all. My PCP has been great about doing my followup exams and labs. If I had any questions, I could e-mail Dr.U and he would answer right away. I am really impressed with Dr Ungson, he is very professional, knowledgable and very understanding on my needs and fears. He has answered every e-mail I have sent him within a day or 2 , and very honest answers.
