Gregory Schroder Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

Dr.Schroder was a very likeable Doctor,
but the problem is, my wife and I both saw him on the same day (Oct.20,2004). We both was decline through our insurance (Cigna)in March 2005, so our next step was a peer to peer between Dr.Schroder and Cigna, and so far, we have not hear or got any help from Dr.Schroder with our By-Pass surgury.
And when we call and talk to his nurses we are not rec'd very well and it fell like we are a burden to talk to. so I don't know if he knows we are calling about the surgery.

There are not enough wonderful words that I can say about Dr. Schroder. He truly, truly cares about all of his patients. He is friendly, answers every possible question and never makes you feel rushed.
The man has saved my life. I will live a very long, productive and most importantly "happy" life thinks to him. I owe him everything.

Had my first consult with Dr Schroder last week. I was very nervous just thinking that he might tell me that I wasn't a good candidate for the surgery. My fears were eased the minute I got into the office and started dealing with the office staff and talking with other of dr schroder's patients. They put me at ease right away. The video shown was very informative and when dr schroder came in and talked with me he made me feel very comfortable right away. Having known someone that had the surgery I went in fairly informed about the procedure so I didn't have many questions and he went over anything I didn't understand to make sure I knew what I was getting into.

Dr. Schroder and his staff are wonderful! Dr. Schroder is one of the most respected surgeons in the Richmond, VA area, he is very knowledgeable and very caring. He has a GREAT bedside manner! He came very highly recommended to me and I would highly recommend him to others. I have had a wonderful experience with him and his staff at St. Mary's Hospital.

Dr. Schroder was great, He explained the procedure. The process involved with the insurance company.
He staff was very helpful. His appointment times need help. You can spend over 1hour past the scheduled time to see him.
All the risks were explained, plus you are given a green book. The book goes over everything that was mentioned plus what is to be expected.
Dr. Schroder has performed over a hundred RNY surgeries
Overall I am very pleased with the outcome of this surgery

Dr. Schroder is a very capable surgeon, who had the courage and foresight to delay my surgery several times due to other medical complications. Even thought it was very frustrating to me I believed that he was doing what was going to be the right thing for my health. For this I had great respect and confidence in him. I'm now 7 days post op and I've had no complications at all. His staff was very professional and his nurse Debbie has been a pleasure to deal with. The only problem I had was that his staff is slow to respond to phone calls sometimes. Part of this may have my fault as I was calling to get answers for questions that I forgot to ask while I was there for my office visit. I'm not sure how much after care is involved. I do know that I have to see him every two weeks forthe first couple of months. I would rate Dr, Schroder and his staff as excellent. Both is surgical compentance & bedside manners are great even though he has a very heavy case load.

excellent surgeon. Seems to be very caring and positive. Office staff are available for emergencies and other non-emergency questions. However, like most healthcare in this country, they seem hurried with many pts. scheduled at the same time so you are in and out rather quickly. Dr Schroder is direct with information and always ask for any questions. He has a structured aftercare plan which is assoicated with the hospital. He gets an A+ in competence and bedside manner.

Dr. Schroder was very helpful and informative. On my first visit, I was shown a videotape of the surgery then Dr. Schroder met with me to answer any questions and explained what was next. He gave me websites to visit and information to read and on my next visit he followed up to see if I had been to the websites, read the information or had any questions. I was very nervous before surgery, but Dr. Schroder put me at ease immediately with his beside manner and positive outlook. He was there after surgery explaining everything that happened and was currently happening and what I could expect later. On a scale of 1-10, I would rate Dr. Schroder a 20! He is an excellent surgeon (competent in every way), his bedside manner was so patient with me (a very frightened patient).
After surgery I had to receive blood transfusions due to problems that arose with my colon (from a previous surgery). Dr. Schroder came in and explained why the transfusions and how minor the complication was and that it would clear up in a few days and of course he was 100% right.
Dr. Schroder has emphasized aftercare a great deal and is very instrumental in the monthly support group at SMH. I have recommended quite a few friends to him that have been living in fear of this surgery. One friend is on her way and currently going through the pre-op process.
Dr. Schroder gave me my life back and for this I will always love and respect him.

Dr. Schroder, in my opinion, is a great surgeon.
His office did not provide enough post-surgery support (at least they didn't in 2001). His staff was friendly.
The aftercare program was not enough for me and it was months before I realized that I needed more support.
The risks of surgery were well explained. He has great bedside manner, is friendly and competent.
