28May04 - Met with Dr. Gaskill after first Surgeon went on medical leave. I liked his relaxed personality and he seems to be very happy with his type of surgery. I arrived in his office with a 2 page list of questions which he answered openly, although I didn't get quite the answers I was looking for to some of my questions (that may have been a difference in interpretation). If you have specific questions about him, I would be happy to answer them, just e-mail me.
I interviewed three bariatric specialists before choosing Dr. Gaskill. I find him to be both personable and professional. He gave me thorough information on WLS risks. I felt he probed appropriately for enough information to feel satisfied that I was a good candidate for surgery.
Dr. Gaskill wrote a succinct letter to my insurance carrier requesting pre-authorization for surgery. That request was approved in less than 30 days. He arranged for a surgery date less than 30 days following the insurance approval.
I find him to be responsive and thoughtful. He listens to--and answers--every question.
My first impression of Dr. Harold Gaskill was impressive. His mannerisms, professionalism and thoroughness helped reassure my decision in having this surgery done. My impressions of him did not change during my post-op time with Dr. Gaskill. He continued proving to me and my family that we made the best choice of surgeons for this serious process. Not only were me and my family comforted with Dr. Gaskill’s demeanor, we felt at home with his office staff. The one lady that made a huge difference was Glenda. Glenda is warm hearted, considerate but most of all, she follow-ups to ensure that I did not have any additional questions that needed to be addressed.
Dr. Gaskill gives you his time and does not rush you, extremely patient. He will give specific information that you need in order to be successful with this life changing surgery. He most definitely explains the risks involved in the surgery and necessary care needed during your post-op.
I would overall rate Dr. Gaskill as a 10. Why? Well let’s just say, he takes care of his patients. There were many times in the hospital that nurses would tell me, “Wow, your Doctor does everything for you, while other Doctors leave the work for the nurses!”. Especially my last day in the hospital, Dr. Gaskill came in took the time to remove my drainage bags (YUCK!), but he did it himself. The funny thing is that the nurse that was working that day offered to do it for him. But Dr. Gaskill said, “No, that okay, I will do it!”.
Thank you Dr. Gaskill and Glenda! With your positive help, and encouragement this experience has most definitely been a positive one! ((Big Hugs!))
