Young guy, but very confident of himself and his skills.
My impressions agreed with what he reflected I love him as my surgeon.
Staff are busy but caring.
His confidence.
His staff may seem busy but remember he has many patients all requiring his staff to do something for them. Do what you can to make their job easier and they will go out of their way to get their job done for you.
After care is very important to him and he has monthly support group meetings and a web forumn for patients.
Yes he has a structured aftercare program.
Very stright forward about all risks and want to be certain you inderstant them.
EXCELLENT surgeon
BOTH are excellent.
When I saw his picture, my impression was that he didn't look very personable. Quite the contrary! I first saw him at his monthly support group meeting. He stayed for quite awhile and answered a lot of questions. I'm sure he gets the same questions all the time but he didn't seem to mind answering them. He's very nice and doesn't mind having to "re-explain" things in non-medical terminology.

His group consult addresses the types and risks of surgery. In the individual consult he makes sure you understand what procedure you want and what the long term risks are.

I've recommended 2 of my friends and my mother (who lives in TX) to see him. That should tell you enough right there!
I have an appt set up to meet with him on Jan 28th.
UPDATE:: I met with Dr. E and he was everything I'd heard and more. Very friendly, thorough, and humorous. I enjoyed talking with him and felt totally confident in his surgical expertise and skill. I will be seeing him on the operating room table and I can barely wait. So far so good. Bye the way, he is extremely attractive, but don't tell him I said so, but he is. I was surprised at how young he looked and enjoyed my meeting with him.
He was very serious. Doesn't take risks. My impression has only changed in that I feel stronger than ever he is a master at his art. The office has had turn overs, and seems to now be more effient than used to be. I think his patient base had exploded bigger than he could have ever antisipated due to his success. I would rate him a 10 plus! People all over the country travel to be operated on by him. I even trusted my sisters life to be in his care. He did the VG on her also.
I'm planning to have my surgery with Dr. Elariny in Arlington, VA. I first learned of of Dr. E through months of research. I attended one of his information group sessions on November 11, 2003. I have already had both appointments for the dietician and the PA. I have a one on one with Dr. E, December 20, 2003. I'm really excited! My impression of Dr. E are very positive!
Dr. Elariny is a young man who at first sight is well Young! he's one of those genius types who entered medschool in his teens. My first impression was one of wariness... It did change over time. as I listened to his seminars and talked to some of his post op patients and other staff members I grew to respect and ultimatly put my l;ife in his capable skilled hands.
I only know 2 of the staff well enough to mention them. Nancy who is the organizational pre-op lady. She is tough. She is a very nice lady who won't take crap from anyone and she will push and crab at you to do what you need to do. She's like a mother-in-law that you hate at first and then relaize she was doing it all out of love. She kicked my ass into gear on the pre-op testing and getting my diet histroy done for the insurance.
Jennifer is the other staff member I know... she's the nutrionist/dietician I've not dealt with her much more then at the first meeting. I'll be dealing a lot more with her in the aftercare portion of the care.
I would say the thing I like least about Elariny is that he takes on a LOT of patients and doesn't always take the time to get to know them one on one. I'm a 25 yr old male with no histroy of colon issues and he issued a colonscopy test to be done preop which requires a day before of cleansing out the system with a bowel cleansing regiment. he then saw me in th OR the next day for the test I was also getting an upper GI done and he cancelled the colonoscopy after he saw how old I was!!! he put me thru a day of liquid Sh*t for nothing. If he'd known me better he wouldnt have done that.
