I was very impressed with Dr. Dickinson from my first consultation. He said he was concerned that I had too high of expectations for myself--he's right! He laid out all the risks and I left the consultation with lots of information. His office staff was vey helpful. I ended up back in the hospital for another surgery 7 weeks after RNY, and Dr. Dickinson was very supportive and encouraging. I then ended up having an infection, and he was again encouraging. He didn't make me feel like I was bothering him. I feel that Dr. Dickinson is very competent and he speaks with authority. He is very patient and thorough when answering questions. I would refer friends to Dr. Dickinson with no hesitation.

I love Dr Dickinson! He made me feel valued and respected at the very first meeting. He was very up front with risks, and what I should expect after surgery. He was positive, and professional the day of surgery and made me feel like everything was going to be great! Whenever I am in the office he actually sits down and looks me in the eye! I have never felt rushed or like he didn't have time for questions. He has a wonderful bedside manner! His big smile is very comforting! He is very interested in after care! He always asks if I am happy that I had the surgery. I feel like he is in this with me for the long haul!!!! He attends some of the monthly support meetings. The meetings are awesome because you have access to Surgeons, Nurses, Nutritionist, and people in all stages of their journey! There is no excuse not to have questions answered and get the support needed to achieve and maintain your goals. rnDr. Dickinson seems very interested in the whole person! I would trust him with another surgery! rnThe entire staff is very supportive and understanding. Email me if you have any questions about my experience.

DR. DICKINSON FOUND A DIFFICULT PATIENT IN ME AND HE TOLD ME SO AT THE FIRST VISIT. HE FELT HE WAS CONFIDENT BECAUSE THE BULK OF MY WEIGHT WAS LOW HE COULD DO A LAP. I HAVE THE GREATEST RESPECT FOR HIM. IN JULY I WENT INTO POUDRE VALLEY AND HE HAD TO STOP AS HE HAD CONCERNS ABOUT MY LIVER. WE CHECKED WITH SPECIALIST AND THEY RECOMMEND GO ON. 1 MONTH LATER I WAS IN THE OR HAVING THE PROCEDURE OF MY LIFE. NOTHING MADE ME FEEL BETTER THAN TO HAVE DR. DICKINSON COME INTO MY HOSPITAL ROOM OR OFFICE ROOM WITH THAT HUGE SMILE WITH HIS PLEASURE. THE PROBLEMS HE FORESAW WERE AVOIDED. I AM DOWN 135 POUNDS AT 8 MONTHS. IT IS FUNNY BECAUSE HE IS REALLY HUMAN AND VERY OBVIOUS WITH HIS EMOTIONS. AT MY 6 MONTH CHECK I WAS NOT DOING SO WELL AND IT REALLY SHOWED ON HIS FACE. NO NICE SMILE. HE IS GREATLY CONCERNED ABOUT HIS PATIENTS, THEIR OUTCOMES, AND ALSO THEIR FAMILIES. WISH HE WERE NOT 6 HOURS AWAY FROM MY HOME. I STILL MIGHT GO THERE IF I COULD MAKE IT AND HAD A DIFFERENT PROBLEM. KEEP SMILIN DOC. IT MEANS A LOT TO YOUR PATIENTS - MORE THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE!

I think that Dr. Dickinson is pretty cool. He is very straight forward and right to the point. He doens't use all this medical mumbo jumbo that is hard to understand. He uses charts and diagrams and pictures so that you can see what exactly is going to happen. My Uncles also had him as his surgeon, and my family really liked him and was exicted when I was able to get him as my doctor. When I first met him, I thought the was a little bit harsh, but then once I was able to talk to him by myself without my family around, I felt better about it. When we talked with my family I almost felt like he was trying to talk me out of it. BUt then once we were talking by ourselves I felt alot better about the situation. And we were even able to crack a few jokes and laugh a little bit. I would most definitely reccomend Dr. Dickinson to other patients. He knows what he is doing, and is easy to understand, and really cares about his patients.

Dr. Dickinson is a very personable individual who does not hesitate to answer questions thoroughly and in language the patient can understand. He made rounds each day I was in the hospital and again answered all questions I had for him. Immediately following surgery he made himself available to my family. They also feel that he is truly competent and concerned about his patients. Speaking purely as a result of my own experience and no one else's results, I can say that Dr. Dickinson's office staff are professional, yet compassionate. They afford the morbidly obese person every courtesy and allow a person his/her dignity. I am an out-of-state patient so I appreciate that phone calls are returned and no question is seen as insignificant. For pre-op I was tightly scheduled so I did not have to make multiple trips to Fort Collins. If you are concerned, they will answer and address those concerns be it insurance, follow-up care, dietary, etc. Future patients should know that the PVH nurses rank him highly as one of the top surgeons doing bariatric surgery at this hospital. I was told I had had the best. I agree. There is a very structured program that all the doctors and staff of Northern Colorado Surgical Associates support. Aftercare is the rest of one's life, so it is most definitely emphasized. Overall, I can not say enough good things about Dr. James Dickinson and his treatment of patients. He truly is happy for his patients and the chance they have to use the "tool" surgery gives them to change their lives, their health. Thus far he has had no one die. I asked! He is aware that statistically it will likely occur. He told me it would be a sad day for him.

I prefer competence, but a positive bedside manner is a plus.

First impression was he was very professional. As the process went on I learned that he was very friendly as well and truely concerned about my health and future. His office staff is very helpful, even on the phone. I can't think of a thing I didn't like about him. As far as post op I'm only 10 days out so I can't really speak on post op visits, but otherwise I would recommend him without question. He informed me before surgery that mine would be a difficult one because of prior injuries and scar tissue problems but didn't go out of his way to scare me. Overall I would give him a 9 out of 10. Post op visits are yet to come but I don't forsee it getting any worse. He's top notch, from his skills as a surgeon to his freindly demeanor. Thanks Dr. Dickinson!
