Dr. Totoro is a very nice & caring doctor. I had complications two days after surgery & he attended to them right away. He listens if you have questions or concerns & addresses them. I would recommend him to others.

I had known of Dr. Totoro's reputation for many years. He trained that the medical center complex where I worked as a secretary. I also had friends and relatives who had been his patients. Dr. "T" is a wonderful surgeon. His skills are such that his colleagues have very high regards for his surgical skills. Just as important, Dr. T is a kind, caring, compassionate individual. He is truly a surgeon who cares. He wants what is best for his patients and expects that they receive the best of care by all who serve them.

Dr. Totoro is very thorough and deliberate in his approach to treating you, the patient. He makes sure you understand the diagnosis and what needs to be done. He describes exactly what the surgery entails and the risks. Dr. T will answer questions until you are comfortable with your knowledge of the situation.

My respect for Dr. T has increased as I continue to see him. He continues to see me every six months as a follow up and answers any questions. Since his expertise is surgery he has turned over my aftercare (labs, medications, etc.) to my primary care physician. I have my primary care physician send Dr. T a report of my labs and visits so if there are any problems they can coordinate my care.

I have now met with Dr. Totoro. I have to admit I was nervous, I had heard that he was not very warm. I thoroughly enjoyed my meeting with him. He was very caring with the questions he asked was very thorough in his explanations and I look forward to having him as my surgeon.

An once again I can not tell you just how wonderful Marilyn Minter is. She is always encouraging always helpful.

I am just now getting all my information together. I went to the seminar on June 10,2003. He seemed very knowledable, and sincere about wanting to help us. He was very adament about if we had not lost and kept the weight off by now, we probably would never do it alone. He and Dr. Thomas are the Mercy Bariatric weight loss surgeons.
They have just begun to do the RYN laproscopically. They will not do it on a person with a BMI greater than 35. They said that after they have done more of them and became more comfortable with doing them and had good results, they would consider expanding them to BMIs over 35.
I felt like they were there to help us. Marilyn was very helpful to answer our questions. She is the coordinator of the office.
I will let you know more as I have more experience with them and get to know them better.
7/7/03.
I saw Dr.Totoro today. What a nice experience. I felt that he was polite and helpful. He was so optimistic. His coordinator, Marilyn is the greatest. She is so upbeat and supportive. Now we wait for the insurance.

Dr T seems a little remote on first visit but he is a fantastic surgeon and genuinely cares about his patients. I think he is the best! (He also looks like Harrison Ford, which is a definite plus!)
His office staff are also very helpful.
He also explains risks and why he chooses roux en y or band as it relates to you personally. He speaks in down to earth english.
I hardly endorse Dr. T for anyone. He is intelligent, caring, a good communicator and has a positive outlook on everything.

I have had Dr T before for breast cancer. While he is not the most warm and fuzzy person I have found him to be sincere, caring, and an excellent doc.
His staff is very helpful and responds to all calls.
The one complaint (if you can call it that) is that it took so long to schedule the surgery. I am really gun-ho and want to do it NOW. I cant wait to see myself as a mere shadow of the person I am.;-)

I went to the Mercy Surgical weight loss center for my initial consult on Nov. 17th. I met with Marilyn Minter. She is a very nice lady. She set up all of my appointments and talked to me about the surgery. Dr. Totoro is a hightly respected surgeon and I am glad he will be doing my RNY. I am going to try to set a surgery date in the first week of February.

Dr Totoro has an exceptional personality. Great at answering every question. In the Groups I have heard only Great things of Dr Totoro, before and after Surgery as well as the wonderful work that he performs. (Beautiful Incisions, etc.) His staff, including Marilyn Minter (WONDERFUL) and Joy (PERFECT NAME) are a blessing. They help keep the anxiety at a low! Overall, if you are considering weight loss surgery, you cant find a better facility than Mercy Weight Loss Center. From the Staff to the Support Groups, they are the top of the line.
