Dr. Wallace comes off as sort of a hard a**,but due to some of my complication I have gotten to know him a lot better and he is wonderful and caring and REALLY cares about his paitents. I know he does not think of me as a nuber or as a money sign. He really does care and that is very refreshing to know about a doctor. I would do it all again with Dr. Wallace!!!

Dr. James Wallace and his Nurse Practitioner, Deb Andris, are the best!! Prior to surgery, Dr. Wallace was very professional and straight forward. He wanted to make absolutely sure that I was ready for the surgery and understood what to expect. He answered all my questions and took as much time as I needed. Dr. Wallace does not sugarcoat anything - he tells it like it is, yet at the same time, is supportive. I asked him where he saw me in 20 years after having the surgery (meaning any long-term complications) and he said, "Without the surgery, I see you dead in 20 years". What a wake-up call! After the surgery, Dr. Wallace is everything I just mentioned, plus a "cheerleader". He is extrememly encouraging and makes you feel like he sincerely cares. He tells you how great you are doing and how good you look. It is so nice for a doctor to take the time to talk to you and on top of that, make you feel good about yourself!

I finally met with Dr. Boe on 1/14/02 and hubby and I were very comfortable with him! My first appt with him had to be rescheduled-but I was told I would not have to pay for my consult. A freebie! Nice to see they are fair with my time as well as theirs. He answered all of our questions and even joked with us about various things. Much like talking to a friend of a friend. He says he does not visit this website because he does not want to hear good or bad things people say. I told him all the things I have heard and seen are GOOD! This guy is great and made me feel MUCH more confident that I am in good hands. He outlined the post op contacts and on call issues and covered the support groups and was glad to hear I had lots of support at home and online!! I rate him an A so far and would reccomend him to anyone.

UPDATE:

I cancelled me BTC surgery. After another year of research I have met with Dr. Wallace in October of 2002. Very straightforward and sincere. This man makes it clear he knows what he is doing and saying. I truly believe that by following his direction, I will be a success. There is a 5 year aftercare program and he is very clear about risks. He also gives his statistics on complications based on age and comorbids. I am very confident all will go well for me.

I met with Dr. Wallace on March 3rd 2003 and found him to be so refreshing. He is the most caring and considerate Dr. I have ever met and I felt so comfortable just sitting there talking to him. I broke down in tears as I sat there talking with him as he explained how hard life is for moms and how he understood everything I don't think any other doctor ever has. Anyway I feel more than confident in my decision to have him as my surgeon and I can't wait to get this all going!!

Dr. Wallace was a very nice person and got straight to the point. He made me feel very comfortable. Had a great first visit.

Had my surgery with Dr. Wallace on the 4th of March 2003. I knew that I had made the right choice in surgery and the right Doctor when I got in the OR room. He held my hand and made me feel so much better. He told me that I would be fine and I was. The next day when he walked in my room, again I knew that I made the right choice. He was a great man and I have the deepest respect for him. He was a kind and caring man. He took the time to go over thing that happened in surgery and how the surgery went.

The after care program is wonderful. I see Dr. Wallace in 2 weeks and then see his nurse 2 weeks after that. I see one of them every month for 6 months and then every 3 months after that. Some where along the line after my one year checkup it changes to going every year for the rest of my life. I truly believe that after care is very important and I again feel that I have made the right choices in this part of my decision too.

Dr. Wallace is "THE BEST" My impression of him over time has grown to think my husband & I had the best in the field. His office staff is great. Deb the nurse practioner is awesome. Future patients should know that if you have a complication & my husband did you will get the best
Dr. Wallace & Froedert have to offer! He will be there every step of the way with you & your family. He is straight forward about the risks & complications of the surgery. Aftercare is you see him or his nurse every month for the first 6 months & a support group is held the last Monday of every month. Dr. Wallace is the best!!! I can't say enough about him, he makes you feel like you're is only patient that you're his favorite patient, that time doesn't matter. Surgical Competence & Bedside Manner were both great Outstanding.

I know this sounds gushing, but my husband had a major complications requiring additional surgery & Dr. Wallace was right there every step of the way with our family. He even cancelled a trip to stay with my husband.

Ithought Dr.Wallace was very professional. He is also understanding and very concern about his patient feelings and their safety in having the surgery. He did not pull any punches in telling me the risks involved with the surgery. That for my safety I had to lose 20 pounds before the surgery. I feel very confident that when I have my surgery on February 28 that I will be treated and cared for with the greatest respect and the utmost health care. His staff has been very helpful and considerate. I find our support group to be the best.Any questions are answer quickly and the staff lets you know if they don't have the anser they will get it for you.Dr. Wallace is very strong on aftercare both at the clinic and with our support group. Our afercare is very structured. Our aftercare program is for five years.Surgical competence is the most important. Bedside manners are nice I agree but skill is the best and respect for the person is second.

My first impression of Dr. Wallace was positive. I was fortunate enough to have him in my orientation class then at the Dr.s appt. He is very knowledgeable and instills confidence in me. I am a nurse so that isn't always easy to do. He seems to "tell it like it is". I respect that. Dr. Wallace sat down next to me at eye level and was less intimidating that way. I look forward to getting a surgery date and will update later. So far the only negative thing I have found is the need for a lot of patience and the procedure could have been explained better as to the required preop tests and expected time things will take in general.

I have only had one meeting with Dr. Wallace.
He was quite matter-of-fact about all the pros and cons of surgery. He was very adament that I understand all the possible complications. He was very open with he and his partner's (Dr. Nakeeb) way of "doing business". At his hospital, Froedert and Mesical College of Wisconsin, they have a 5 year aftercare program. His office coordinator, Sue, is sooo nice! When I went for my first visit with him, he addressed me directly, even when he was answering my husband's questions. He made sure I knew where he stood on certain issues, ie., current diet (fast food and sugar for the most part). He said the next time he sees me he wants me to be on a pre-op diet, mostly to show I'm serious about the lifestyle change I'm about to undertake. I was a bit taken aback by that. He has a mild sense of humor, but his sense of caring is much more obvious. He wants people to succeed...he's just not going to tell you it's going to be easy.

I met Dr. Wallace at my first appopintment. My first impression was he is very knowledgeable, he answered all of my and my husband's questions, he never appeared to rush us or hurry us along so he could see others, he took his time and made sure we understood everything. He said he performed his firstr surgery of this nature in 1981. He made us feel very comfortable. He made sure we understod the possible complications of the surgery. I was impressed with Dr. Wallace. These were just mine and my husband's personal impressions.

9-29-02 I really liked my doctor. He came to see me after surgery when I was awake and in my room, he came in on Saturday to see me and on sunday as well. He always would come in and sit down in the chair and talk to me. He never was in a rush to get on to other things. The most powerful statement he made to me that has helped me the most is, "I changed your body, not your mind". He truly appeared to take a valued interest in how I was doing. He made me feel comfortable to ask my questions and wish me well. He is one of the best doctors I have met.
