I met Dr Gleysteen in april of 2003. He was very nice answered all my Questions, warned me about the risks involed. He would not let me tell him then if I wanted the surgery. Had to think it over then call him back in a week. to let him know. I could hardly wait to call. He is very smart and kind. I like him very much.

My first impression was of Barbara in Dr Gleysteen's office and she was the decision maker on my deciding to go with their office. She was awesome! When I met Dr Gleysteen he was very to the point with everything, had a somewhat dry sense of humor but overall very nice. The only thing I have disliked is that he has never actually told me that he would do my surgery open or laparoscopically. I have point blank asked but gotten no answer. I do wish that he would be a little more helping in preparing you before the surgery and not waiting until you go for pre-op the Friday before your Wednesday surgery to do this. He did explain the risks and the surgery itself very well, although I had been researching it for quite some time and knew most of what he had told me. He spent a lot of time with me and answered as many questions as time would allow. Although, questions that I have had since and called with he has been pretty vague and not really given me an answer. He has not spoken to me about aftercare, only said we would discuss that on my next visit which won't be until 5 days before my surgery which I don't really care for. I would have to say that I do trust him as a surgeon and he has been doing this for a long time but bedside manner could somewhat improve. I did kind of expect this since I work for 4 surgeons. haha.

It took me 5 months to get my inital appt with Dr Gleysteen. But when the date finally came i feel it was worth the wait- he seemed to be very caring- esp not doing the surgery just because someone wanted to loose weight, i have worked as a nurse and know how doctors can be sometimes-- but he was very nice and professional. He asked several times if my husband or myself had any questions-- he was willing to take the time with us---very good. I have spoken with Barbara on SEVERAL occasions and she is super-- and very helpful as well. Now I am just waiting on Barbara to give me the phone call i am waiting on to give me my surgery date.. so i will keep things updated

At first, I thought he was dismissive of my desire to have the surgery. I do not have any life threatening medical problems. I do meet the weight requirements, have acid reflux, and borderline high blood pressure that requires no medication. However, I now know he simply wanted to be absolutely sure I understood the seriousness and committment that would be required. His nurse, Barbara, is very helpful and concerned. I would recommend Dr. Gleysteen.

Dr. Gleysteen was SO nice. He was very patient didn't rush me once when I had a million questions. He had answered most of them before I asked them. He has a awsome office staff. He only does 1 surgery a week so that he can give the person he did surgery on his undivided attention. I would not want anyone else to do my surgery. He was very caring about me didn't think I was crazy just treated me like someone special. It meant so much to me!

It took me five months to obtain an appointment with Dr. Gleysteen. I was very impressed with the time that he took with me, answering questions and asking a lot of questions about my health and concerns about the surgery. He took the time to explain the surgery and the risk involved. He told me that he does not usually do people as "small" as me. lol...but due to my comorbs, he would do my surgery. He is honest and will tell you like it is. I know other people who have gone to see him and he has told them just to push away from the table that he would not touch them simply because he does not thing this surgery should be your first choice of action but the last effort to lose the weight. His staff worked very closely with my referring physician in obtaining necessary information so that my claim could be submitted to my insurance company to see if they would cover this procedure. I go back on November 19, 1999 for my pre op visit. I can update again after that visit.

11/20/99 - Well I had my preop visit yesterday and if I was going to chicken out this would be the time. He has scared the crap out of me now. He told me that this is my last chance to get the weight off. I had better take advantage of this tool or I would more than likey be dead in five years. All is a go for surgery Wednesday, December 1, 1999.

09/08/01 - I went for my 18 month check up and got some good/bad news from Dr. G. First, all blood work was good. Then he started chewing me a new ass because I had lost "to much weight". He said that I was the first paitent that had actually reached my "idea" weight and gone below. He told me that he wanted me to "gain" 25 pounds by December. No offense, I told him that hell will freeze before that will happen.

have not met dr. gleysteen yet. but have spoke with barbara, his office staff. she is MOST helpful, patient, funny, and understanding. initial appointment is made for january 11 2002, when bc/bs insurance becomes effective.

01-11-02~~met dr. gleysteen today and was very impressed with him. he treated me wiath dignity, did not rush through our appointment, answered all questions honestly and did not sugar-coat the facts. i appreciate that greatly. his expertise makes me very comfortable also. i was also glad to know he is beginning to do the lap surgery, as this is what i want so badly if i am a good candidate. overall, i am very pleased with my first visit.

I was very impressed with Dr Gleysteen from the first time I met him. He was sincere, very thorough, and overall impressive. The staff has been great. I have spoken with Barbara, Dr Gleysteen's secretary on numerous occasions, and she too is very nice, helpful and great to talk to.
I don't have any quirks with anything with Dr Gleysteen and his staff. My surgery went well and he has answered questions and been there for me everytime I have needed him.
Patients should know to be patient with getting appointments. He is very busy, but worth the wait.
AT the first visit, Dr Gleysteen talked about the risks of the surgery, talked about what to expect, etc.
It is important to have a surgeon who is both competent and have a good bedside manner. It is very important to me to be able to talk to the doctor and feel good about the conversation.
