My surgeon was actually Dr. Rothchild from Dr Schoen's office at University of Colorado Hospital. He is a fabulous surgeon. He was very caring, and even delayed my surgery two days because I had not followed the liquid diet as instructed (due to a misunderstanding). He said it was better to be safe than sorry and continues to be very concerned about my health and my well being. I would recommend him to anyone considering WLS. I think the only thing that could have been better is having all of the possible risks fully discussed before the date is set. Even in the hospital I had no idea how intense, painful, or serious this surgery was.

I just wanted to share my story. Just like all the other peoples stories that I have read, I too though omg, he looks so young.. And with my past experiences young Doctors are not very friendly.. My opnion has changed so much. I can honestly say that Dr. Schoen is one of the best Doctors I have met. He is honest and straight to the point. I had to be readmitted for another week with some complications, and he and his team were so great.
Also he has a wonderful staff that really cares.. KUDOS to Sarah who works so hard for all the patiens.. Thanks SO MUCH!!

What was your first impression of him/her? rnrn When Dr. Schoen walked into the room I immediately though to myself \"Who is this young man? the doctor?\" He looked so young I honestly though that there was no way he could be experienced in Gastric Bypass procedures.rnrnHow did your impression change over time?rnrn My impression changed as soon as he started speaking. The man knew what he was talking about and was straight forward in his manner. He hid nothing and explained all the complications that could arise from the surgery. However, he also explained how my health would continue to worsen if I did not have the procedure.rn rnHow would you describe his/her office staff? rnrn True professionals! Like Dr. Schoen - direct and to the point. Able to answer any question that I posed to them.rnrnWhat did you like least about him/her? rnrn At the first meeting you wonder if he cares about you. He is professional, but he did not seem openly caring about you. I understand now that he opens up more at each visit. He knows you are willing to go through the procedure and he works to help you feel comfortable about your choice.rn rnWhat should future patients know about him/her? rnrn He cares and he is damn good at what he does!rnrnHow much does he/she emphasize aftercare? rnrn He bases the whole experience on aftercare. The weight loss does not start until the surgery is complete and he expects you to work towards a goal of keeping it off!rnWith each visit (after surgery) you meet with him and each one of his staff, one-on-one.rnrnDoes he/she have a structured aftercare program? Yes. Diet, exercise, food, and state-of-mind are discussed (in detail) during each visit.rnrnHow did he/she address the risks of surgery?rnrn He bluntly lays it out prior to surgery. You know all the pros & cons to make a smart choice to proceed.rn rnHow would you rate him/her overall? rnrn I had consulted two other doctors before meeting Dr. Schoen. Bouy am i glad I keep looking!rnrnWhich is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both greatrn He teaches at the University of Colorado Hospital - so his surgical competence is top notch. He truly shows he cares when he shares a one-on-one with you.

This doctor is great. He did not rush me thru my visits, he was extremely thorough and explained everything. He made sure I knew what I was getting into, the pros and cons of all the surgeries and what was required afterwards. His staff is wonderful and always accessible. They are all very knowledgeable and just made the whole surgery experience alot easier than I thought it was going to be.rn

My first impression of Dr. Schoen was that he was much younger than I thought he would be. He immediately expressed his concern for the weight that I had gained and also a terrible cough that I was having since my inital visit. All he really did was tell me to start a liquid diet and see a specialist about the cough. I was disappointed when he told me that he had to reshedule me but, if it's for my safety then I am glad that he did. He also asked if I had any ?'s but I had already asked everything to the two other surgeons that I had met prior to meeting him and they answer them all thoroghly. I just wish that he had examined me or something (Dr. Rothchild did examin me). I guess he'll do that the day of surgery. The office stafff was pretty average and the front desk clerks were neutral. He has done over 100 surgeries, one of which was a good friend of mine and she had no complications and feels better than ever. I feel good knowing that there will be him and two other surgeons working on me (three heads are better than one).rnrnI don't have any complaints except the fact that he mentioned he didn't think I could loose the full 20 lb.'s by the surgery date which was a bit offensive. I plan to prove to him that I can do that and some and wait for the reaction.

I had read several reviews of Dr. Schoen and his office on OH, and so felt very comfortable going into the office for my first consult with my list of questions and having decided on the VSG. While I thought Dr. Schoen & Dr. Rothchild were very nice and knowledgable, I was a little rattled by the fact that they and everyone else kept telling me that my insuance would not cover it. The only person who I felt believed me that I could get the insurance coverage was Sara, who is overall an amazing person!! But as time went on and I met with the drs. and got closer to my surgery date, I was able to get to know them better. They have both been very personable, caring, and just overall wonderful doctors. I feel like I would definitely recommend this office to anyone who is looking to have WLS. Like I said, Sara is just so incredible. She's always available, returns call promply, and will always help with anything she can. Breanne, Lisa, and everyone else have just been so supportive and fun to be around. I don't think I could say enough good things about Dr. Schoen and his entire staff. The staff at University Hospital was also great as I went in for my pre-op testing and during the actual surgical experience. I was very pleased with all, and would suggest anyone considering WLS meet with these people...you will not be disappointed!

I am very thankful that Dr. Schoen took me as a Medicaid client. He has a heart of gold as I can see some of the other bariatric doctors are in it it for the money.I would recommend him to anyone having the surgery. He is one genuinely kind doctor who cares about the patient not the paycheck!

Awesome and straight forward about everything!!!! Answered all of my questions and even gave me food for thought...rnrnI would recommend him now more than ever, as he is so thorough in his after-care!
