I had consulation with Dr Joseph Vitello on September 21, 2006. I at first thought that I didnt like him because he wasnt very personable, he was very cut and dry about the procedure he was going to perform, but very informative with the information of everything from beginning to after affects etc etc.. he did lighten up a lil by the end of the visit which made me feel more comfortable. I adjusted myself to the idea that just because he wasnt what I expected him to be, he is very sure of what he is doing and thats all that matters. Im looking very forward to seeing him again to get this show on the road.

I loved Dr Vitello. It is hard to get an appointment set up as he makes his own.rnIf you want all the \"fluffy, feel good\" stuff, he isn't the Dr for you. I liked his to the point, down to earth approach. He gives all the bad possibilities along with the good. I know a couple of people who went to him and I was impressed by thier recovery and success. He has been doing open surgeries for a long time, but hasn't done many laporoscopic surgeries. I agreed to let him do lap on me with Dr Ayloo, and am glad I did as recovery is so much easier.

I had my surgery in Puerto Vallarta. Dr. Joya and his staff were great. I recently had a fill at Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove IL, with Dr Vitello. Not knowing what to expect I read the boards on the forum about him, boy was I thinking the worst!! On the way up there I told my friend who rode with me about what I had read and what to expect. When we got there I could not believe how NICE and genuine Dr. Vitello was. I sure did get the wrong impression from reading what others thought. I would go back to Dr. Vitello for anything, I AM SOLD :) Thanks to the posts I was expecting the worst, but ended up with the BEST!! Simply 100% positive things to say.

Had my consult with Dr. Vitello 2/10/05. While I was not that impressed with UIC in general, I was very pleased with Dr. Vitello.

I did not have the type of experience many others here have reported in their first visit with Dr. Vitello. I found him very down to earth, very personable and very friendly. He was also very professional, very informative and very thorough. He went over his statistics with every possible complication. He made sure I had all my questions answered and explained exactly what to expect.

He has done around 1000 RNY's and I feel very comfortable with him.

I would highly recommend him.

He was very clinical, I was expecting that from reading here. He was also harsh about my weight. He tried to scare me, did not work. I have done a lot of research before I went in.

He is hard to get a hold of. It took over a week to get a call back for an appt. and that was 3 weeks later. I got approved from my insurance co right away. Took a while to get a date as Dr. V is very busy. Once I got the date I emailed him with some questions and he responded right away.

He was very straight forward.
I believe he is not sure if I should take the risk of having this surgery.
I only met him once but kept in contact with him through his email address.
I got good responses from them.

He has given me a feeling that he is not sure about doing my surgery.

He worries - I believe but seems to care a great deal about his patients.

I have no information yet.

Yes I believe he did mention the aftercare program and that it will be about a year.

The Dr. was very detailed about the surgery risk and the fact that I have a disease that has no cure.

My overall rating will still be pending.

Still pending.

Dr. Vitello was very direct and knowlegable, his staff is very promt and helpfull and patient. I like the fact that he was very direct and honest that this is not a cure but a tool and not for everyone.

My first impression of Dr. Vitello was that he was very NO NONSENSE. He seemed to try to talk my husband out of the surgery, and in fact, implied that he had not done enough other things first. After the consult, however, Dr. Vitello was MUCH different. He was very personable, knowledgable, and friendly. He will never be a touchy feely kind of person, but he is likable.

If you are going to be a patient of Dr. Vitello's, you should know that he has only one nurse, and one nutritionist. He is extremely busy, and he works out of a teaching hospital. This means that while he will spend whatever time is required with you once you see him, it is tough to set appointments sometimes. Also, this means that while you are in the hospital you will have student doctors and nurses poking around.

There are support group meetings, but they are in downtown Chicago, which can make it difficult if you are a suburbanite. Overall, Dr. Vitello has an excellent reputation, is thorough and meticulous, and is an extremely conscientious surgeon. I was very impressed with his clinical skill, and obvious concern for his patients.

I felt Dr. Vitello has been very thorough at all my visits so far. My first impression, was that I felt rushed but he did answer all questions. I feel very comfotable with him now and have a great deal of respect for the support he offers and his sensitivity to the whole surgery process. He was always very open with me, even when I had some complications following surgery. He was very thorough in explaining possible post-op problems. Due to his thoroughness, I knew what to expect when certain problems did arise.
The office staff was very helpful, as well. They returned my phone calls in a very timely manner and were able to address all my concerns.
Also, I never waited more than 30 minutes in the waiting room before being called. Last visit I had, Dr. Vitello, himself called me within 5 minutes of signing in. I have never been waited on so fast.
Overall, I would rate Dr. Vitello as excellent. Caring, thorough, highly skilled.
