Julie Kim Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

After just having had my first consultation with Dr. Kim I can say that she is courteous, professional and knowledgeable. During our consultation she took the time to explain the surgery step-by-step as she created a drawing that showed both the post-op anatomy and how the digestive system would function following the surgery. She presented me with the risks and statistics regarding the surgery as well as her personal patient statistics regarding her number of surgeries performed and the rate of complications (which according to additional research I have conducted is very low on a national average). Based upon this meeting, I believe that Dr. Kim has an appropriate balance of both technical knowledge and experience along with empathy and patient communication skills, which is often a rare combination in healthcare clinicians. I look forward to having her perform my surgery and will post a follow-up review after having completed my surgery.

Dr. Kim answered every question I had. and i had a bunch. She made me feel safe . I had my surgery Monday the 18th She was fantastic. Checking on me.

Dr. Kim was wonderful. She explained everything to me fully. She listened to me fears and explained all options to me, I never felt rushed or uncomfortable with her. She had a lovely personality, and I think she is a great surgeon. She did a great job with my surgery, I think this just because I've had other procedures done before and believe me if a surgeon isn't good you can be in horrible pain, on the third day I was home and off narcotics and doing great! I am grateful I met her.

Extremely competent surgeon. Very clear in explanation of the procedure. Drew a picture of procedure while she explained it. Office staff is awesome. Awesome after care program. Excellent explanation of risks, explained them all and did not minimize the risks.

I feel that in addition to her surgical expertise she has an awesomebedside manner. I strongly recommend Dr.Kim for WLS.

I first met her at the new/prospective orientation and was very impressed by he thoroughness but also her kind and patient manner and demeanor. Very caring and explains things patiently and completely. really gave me confidence and the staff seem to have great confidence in her also.

Since my RNY surgery Dr Kim did my gall bladder and was wonderful with that as well. I feel very cared for with her and her team.

She is warm,understanding and sincere. Dr Kim really listens. She sympathizes and makes decisions with you.

I really do not have anything negative to say about Dr. Kim. My first impression of her was great and it got better from then on. The office staff were very supportive. Dr. Kim showed a very caring attitude from the start. She described the risks of the surgery and assured me that she had never lost a patient which was very comforting to me. I found Dr. Kim's bedside manner to be great. Some doctors seem as though they are not really listening to you when you describe your symptoms, but she reached out and touched me and assured me everything was going according to plan, and it was all normal. Definitely surgical competence is a much needed quality, bedside manner is a plus that a patient can only hope they get a doctor with this quality. But Dr. Kim is a nine in both of these qualities. Ten being the best. I only say a nine because no one could be perfect all the time. I have had other surgeries at Tufts Medical Center and I am an employee but trust me the other doctors have not been as good as Dr. Kim and I have nothing bad to put in this review, and I would definitely tell you if I did. Employee or not? I had another surgery at Tuft's recently which my reviews were not as good for that one.

I have been impressed with all of the professionals @ Tufts. All were very friendly and engaging, very willing to take time and listen to all questions. Dr. Kim was great before, during and after surgery. She is very down to earth and spent as much time with me as I needed. I would definitely recommend Dr. Kim and Tufts to others for weight loss surgery. The entire experience has been very positive.

I first became aware of Tufts Medical Center in Boston by a show on Discovery hosted by Alan Alda. He interviewed Dr.'s Tarnoff and Shikora of the Tufts Medical Center Obesity Clinic. Dr. Julie Kim is also part of their team. When I met her, she was concerned, empathetic and listened to my concerns. She was very informative and explained every little detail. I would recommend her to everyone.

My first impression was that she was down to earth, sensitive to my situation and caring for me as a person. I have yet to ever feel any different about her. The office staff scheduler is ideal. She is always great. I have to be honest that the 2 ladies that are at the check in desk to the actual offices they are quite short tempered and can tend to be a little rude. They would not be described as social, pleasant and courteous. There is nothing that I do not like about my surgeon. Future patients should know that she is great. She is honest, caring, sensitive and cares about you as a person and your individual needs. There is a structured post op care plan. She was very honest with me about the potential risks and stated clearly what the risks would be but not in a way that would scare me or cause me to change my mind. On a scale of 0 - 10 I would give Dr Kim a perfect 10. In areas of competence and bedside manner both are excellent.
