Dr. McEwen is the best. I actually met him shen he did some laproscopic surgery for me. I had been considering the lap-band surgery and when I saw he did this surgery, I was truly excited. I knew from the minute I met him and his staff that I wanted no one but him to do my surgery. He explained everything fully and he and his staff make you feel like you are the only patient he has and a family member. They know you when you call in. When you come in for an appointment you always get a smile and encouragement. I went to one of his educational seminars the day after my appendoctomy because I had that much trust in him as a surgeon. He addressed the risks for this surgery and compared it to the bariatric surgery. He and his staff answered all questions and stayed around after the seminar to be sure everyone had their questions answered. Dr. McEwen's encouragement at every appointment is wonderful. He and the staff help keep the patient motivated and eager to succeed. I am only 3 months post surgery and I have already lost over 40 pounds. I know there will be stumbling blocks in my journey, but I feel that Dr. McEwen and his staff will be there to help. The monthly support group they offer is a great help. This group includes people who are just thinking about the surgery to those who are 2 years post surgery. We all open up and talk about things that we come across, what helps, what to look forward to, etc. It is great. rnI cannot say enough good things about Dr. Keith McEwen and his staff and my experience. I am sure there are people who might have a problem along the way but luckily I haven't so far. My insurance did not pay for my surgery but I would do it again in a heartbeat. I am already a new person and it is because of Dr. McEwen and his staff.

When I first went to see the doctor, I was not really sure what I was getting into, but I was bound and determined to make a good choice that I could live with forever.rnHe was the most caring and profesional doctor I had ever met. He told my what his expectations were, and that he would not do the surgery if I did not follow hi guideline.rnSo, for the first time in my life, I listened, instead of doing what I wanted...and submitted my insurance for approval...rn34 days later I had the approval, and the next day I was scheduling my surgery.rnI had been a very thin child growing up.....and after I had 4 children, had a hysterectomy and than had Graves disease, where my metabolism compeletly changed at this point and what I had been doing for years, was now making me a very large person.rnThe staff addressed all my concearns with there honest opinions, the dietician was awesome and to the point....rnrnThe day of surgery was awesome....the doctor has the BEST bed side manner, and was extremly gentle and caring.rnrnI think the best part for me has been the after care. My monthly visit's are always interesting and fun, he makes me feel good every time I am there, and is very supportive.rnrnAllot of people, family included feel like having surgery is an easy way out, and for some, maybe that is true. But with the Lapband system, it is a \"tool\" the rest is up to you. rnrnI am doing things now that I hadn't dont in years. I rode in my first organized bike ride 21.5 miles 2 months after my surgery. I have since rode in 3 other organized rides, and plan to continue next year doing the same and riding as much as possible. It has brought my family closer together, and has given my children an example to live by, which in turn makes them healthier.rnrnI would not choose another surgeron, or staff of caring nurses and office managers. They are what allows the doctor to take care of the patients and not have too worry about the rest.rnrnThanks for all you have done for me and for my life...rnrnrnTraci Ketttingerrnweight in April 2007-335rnPre-Surgery- 317rnSurgery May 31, 2007rncurrently as of December 2007-254rnrn

i like dr mcewen, alvin, and staff. i had a lower bmi of 35. I liked the removable part to the lapband just because. dr mcewen told me that i would have to work hard and excercise to lose all of my weight. he told me it would take longer because my bmi was lower too. i felt he was honest instead of just saying...of you will lose 90 pounds next month. thanks dr mcewen

doc mac was so nice. we had a good chat. i want to be able to see the world. i want to travel. so many people said oh your not big enough to have surgery. but a bmi of 38 is plenty big enough when you cary it in your rear. i can't wait to get on an airplane without feeling like people are starin at my rear praying i won't sit next to them!
