Dr. Higa is a great Doctor for anybody that is looking for a Weight loss doctor, he is the one. This man saved my life. So look him up. I have been with him for 5 plus years and he have proven over that time that is in fact one of the best if not the best Weight loss Doctor in the business.

Amazing doctor!!!! rnrnEven though to date I have only spent about 30 minutes, awake, with Dr. Higa, I think he is amazing. He did a great job on me! He found a Hiatal Hernia that I didn’t even know I had and fixed it. The man is one of the best in the country and I see why!!! I would recommend him to anyone provided you don’t need a warm and fuzzy doctor. Dr. Higa is all business and that is fine with me! I wanted the best and I got him!

I was very impressed when I met Dr. Higa, he acted like if I was the only one in his office. In other words, I felt that I had his undivided attention. The office staff are very friendly and his office is very neatly kept. His surgical competence and bedside manners are both great! Dr. Higa is wonderful!!

Dr. Higa was pretty quiet at my first visit, which was a little uncomfortable for me because people who don't talk make me nervous. But the second time I saw him, I saw more of his personality and sense of humor, and I really liked him. His office staff never made me feel comfortable - they are all quiet - I have seen no personality from any of them. His nurse (I think her name is Jennifer) was great in person, but very short on the telephone - I felt kind of rushed and like she didn't have time to answer all of my questions. I did have issues dealing with Brenda - she told me that my insurance required a cardiology consult and when I found out that they don't, she said she would send my pre-auth. A week or two later I called to check on the status and she told me she was still waiting on the report from the cardiologist. I reminded her that I had already checked with my insurance and didn't need to see a cardiologist, and she told me she would go ahead and send it. I called again another week or so later to follow up, and guess what? She told me they were still waiting for the cardiology report. AAAHHHHH!!! I finally seemed to get thru to her that time, and my pre-auth finally got sent. I probably could have had my surgery two to four weeks sooner had it not been for that mess. I highly recommend Dr. Higa, but I also highly recommend keeping on your toes with his staff.

Dr. Higa is a great surgeon and his staff was very helpful. He seems to be the \"Rock Star\" of his field in this area. The day of my surgery they were filming a documentary of his work. One thing I noticed was that he and his staff really push the Bypass over the Lap Band. I'm glad I ended up going with their suggestions as I believe the bypass really forces me to stay on the path with less opotunities to cheat and negative feedback from my body (i.e. Dumping Syndrome) when I do. rnThey don't have alot of aftercare that I've seen other than follow up office visits. I think they have referrals if requested. They did lay out all the things I should be doing on my own at each phase of post surgery life. I am very happy with my surgeon and surgery.

My expereience might be different than others. But I only saw my surgeon for about 10 minutes before surgery and 2 minutes after. Dr. Carr, a young doctor from his office who looked 22, did the inital intake interview, went over the WLS booklet, poked my belly and talked about types of surgeries. After he was through Dr. Hoga walked in and asked if I had any questions. And left within two minutes. rnrnIn Pre-op apptoinment I Saw Dr. Higa for about 8 minues when he went over last minutes items. I had 4 questions which he did answer.rnrnLast, after my surgery I was walking the halls when he came to see me. As I walked up he looked at me and told the other doctor that my ankles were sweeling, add lasix. He never said a word to me. So he is not a people person at all. He is a great surgeon, having done over 7,000 RNYs. So would I recommend him? Yes.

I thought Dr Higa was a nice doctor but really what does nice have to do with it. His after care program is horrible and very dangerous. I was not told the truth about WLS and it's complications nor given the propper long term care needed. Now I am very ill. I would not recommend him to anyone.

Dr Higa was WONDERFUL! I had to be re-hospitalized just one week after my RNY due to dehydration. I couldn't believe how many times he came to my hospital room to make sure that I was ok! His ALSA office is beautiful and very professional but at times I've wished for a more personal touch. But Dr Higa always takes the time to answer all my questions and never makes me feel rushed. I would definitely recommend him as a surgeon. He is a very skilled surgeon. I've known other previous patients of his and everyone has healed up very well following surgery. I would rate him highly overall. I feel the most important issue is having a skilled surgeon & good after surgery care.
