I had my RYN surgery from NSG-DR BoustanyrnMay 22, 2007 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. The surgey went great with no problems. The staff has been going there training classes, so they understand more and more what the surgery and process is. The staff was great the whole time I was there always giving positive words. They do encourage you to walk as much as possible, which is in your best interest. I also saw two other docs from NSG and they where very friendly , caring and always had time for me to ask questions. Jeanne at norfolk General Hospital is great, very caring, friendly, and genuinely concerned about your welfare. I only have postive things to say about them. rnThe office staff at NSG- Dr Boustany nurse Shan I believe is her name, She has always been pleasant and on time with me. The rest of the staff the same, always pleasant and returned my calls in a timely manner when I have called them. I have and will contuine to refer people to the practice/ Boustany. rn

I have nothing but good things to saw about Dr. Boustany, Dr. Snyder and the Staff at Norfolk Surgical Group. Especially their Bariatric Co-ordinator Jennette.rnrnJennette has had the surgery herself and as someone who has been through it as well as an RN. She is more than qualified and more than willing to help in any way she can.rnrnAs for the surgeons... I was sleeping for most of their job thank goodness, but the pre-op and post-op care is excellent.rnrnThe little blurb below says that I should have something negative to say or else people will be suspect of my review. Of course there was and still is pain... it's been only 5 days.rnBut anyone going in for any kind of surgery who doesn't expect that from the beginning is an idiot anyway. As the follow up care progresses, I will keep on the lookout for anything I think could be improved. But honestly, as yet, I have nothing.rn

I first met Dr. Boustany to have my gallbladder removed in January of 2004. He was recommended by a nurse anestitist (sp?) that worked with him at Chesapeake General--I figured she knows all the surgeons and she said gave Dr. Boustany glowing reviews. I became severely infected prior to my surgery and spent 9 days in the hospital, but the surgery was a tough one, according to Dr. B., but I couldn't say enough good things about him. His bedside manner is outstanding and he treats you as more than just a number.rnrnSo, when it came time for my RNY, my choice was already made. Jeanette and Jeanne in the Bariatric Surgery program at Norfolk Surgical Group are fantastic. They both have had the surgery and have loads of information and they \"know where you're coming from\". I had some problems after surgery, including being hospitalized for dehydration about 2 months out. Dr. B. and Norfolk Surgical were incredibly responsive. I called in on Monday morning and they had me a room in Chesapeake General within an hour. I live more than an hour away from the hospital, so their prompt repsonse was appreciated. I can't say enough good things about Dr. B.'s secretary--she was a delight to work with, before and after my surgery. I spent a couple of days in the hospital and Dr. B. refused to let me go home unless I was able to eat something solid and keep it down. After some mashed potatoes and yogurt, he released me after three days of rehydration.rnrnSince then, I've had my good days and my not so good days, but I know that Dr. B. and the staff of Norfolk Surgical are only a phone call away. The only negative thing about the program is the absence of a local support group, and that's not really their fault. I can go to the meetings, but it's tough to make that drive on a weeknight.rnrnI love Dr. Boustany and the group of Norfolk Surgical Group and would highly recommend them to anyone searching for WLS.

Dr Boustany and the Staff at Norfolk Surgical Group are AWESOME. Dr Boustany has you stay on a liquid diet for a full month, which really gives you time to adjust to your new lifestyle. His Office liason has had the surgery so she knows what you go through and she also runs the support group meeting once a month, which are really helpful before and after surgery. Dr Boustany is reallu upfront with you saying if you are looking for swimsuit model resuklts the surgery is not for you, but if your goal is to bne healthy and increase your lifespan than great. Frieda took care of evertyhing with the Insurance and is always there to answer any questions. Dr Boustany has preformed several surgeries on me before my gastric bypass so I was totally at ease withhim and there is always 2 doctors present during the suregery. So if you are looking for a doctor check out Norfolk Surgical Group.

My husband saw Dr. Boustany for a different issue and we liked him. We had worked with two different bariatric surgeons and one moved and one quit doing the surgery so we had to find a new surgeon. We liked his bedside manor and decided to give him a go.

The office staff is great once you have insurance approval but they don't get involved in the approval process. It was up to us and our PCP to fight a 4-year battle. The policy of Norfolk Surgical Group is that you have to get pre-authorization from your insurance before they want to see you and they tell you this at the information meeting. Once you are approved they have a great staff in their bariatric program.

Dr. Boustany is a stickler for pre-op diet and aftercare. He requires a 30 day liquid semi-startvation diet (that is what he calls it) before surgery along with weekly weigh-ins at his office. He has two different support groups that he encoruages participation in before and after surgery that are run by his nutritionist.

Dr. Boustany was very open and professional about addressing the risks.

I haven't had surgery yet but I feel very comfortable with his skill and bedside manor.

DR. BOUSTANY IS WONDERFUL!!!! I LOVE GOING TO HIS OFFICE EVERYBODY THERE SEEMS VERY HAPPY. I HAVEN'T FOUND ANYTHING ABOUT HIM OR HIS STAFF THAT I DON'T LIKE. DR. BOUSTANY IS VERY CLEAR ABOUT HIS RULES, HE SEEMS TO BE A LITTLE MORE STRICK THAN OTHERS. BUT IT'S ALL GOOD. HE HAS GREAT BEDSIDE MANNERS, AND HE ANSWERES ALL MY QUESTIONS. I SAW HIM 3 DAYS AFTER SURGERY, THEN 2 WEEKS THEN 3 MONTHS, AND NOW I WON'T SEE HIM FOR 6 MONTHS. SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD PLAN TO ME. HE MADE SURE I UNDERSTOOD ALL THE RISK, INCLUDING DEATH, AND HE MADE ME AWHILE OF ALL THE RISK OF STAYING 300 PLUS LBS. AS FOR WHAT IS BETTER, SURGICAL COMPETENCE, OR BEDSIDE MANNERS, I'D SAY """""""""""""SURGICAL COMPETENCE!!"""""""
DR. MARC BOUSTANY HAS BOTH!!!! I FEEL VERY BLESSED TO HAVE HIM AS MY WLS DR.
GOD BLESS

He seemed likeable enough, he went thru the normal questions (so it seemed, "like I would know"). My appointment time was on schedule, as soon as I got there (10 minutes early) they called me right in and I saw him.
I have only met him once.

His staff is very pleasant and prompt.

He talked abt the post op directions for the 1st month being very crucial, not to stray.

he gave me all the risks and talked abt why they have occured.

He was very polite and semed to be interested in helping me and not just for the business.
