First impression = very informative and up front.
My impression hasn't had time to change yet. I was a little dissapointed he didn't see me in the hospital only another asissting doctor did. I cannot judge that - he could have had an emergency to take care of.
Office staff = I love Tammy. She's very nice. People don't realize how busy she is.
Like best = informative
Like least = no opinion on this yet.
Aftercare = they give you tons of information before your sugery. The packet covers just about anything.
Risks = I think I know all I ever want/need to know about blood clots. Nuff said.
My Rating = 9 on a 1-10 scale. I'm pretty satisfied so far.
Surgical competence means much more to me than bedside manner. The bedside manner matters more to me with nurses.

surgery date may 24, 2001rnVery professionalrn\my inpression only got better as the wls journey took placernrn\he does not put up with anything that is not by the book.rnrn\he went above and beyond to explain the danger of the surgery. rnrnSurgical skills out weigh his bedside manner. \however, if you follow the program he becomes one of your best friendsrnrn6/22/09 Just had a open ventrical hernia repair and gall bladder removal. I am still very sore. Dr Shina is still a great surgeon. His bedside manner has improved. I would recommend him to anyone who wants a good outcome with their surgery.

He is very interested in making sure you are a success. He answers questions with a straight forward attitude. The office staff seem interested in you and what is happening with you. So far I haven't found anything I don't like about Dr. Shina. Dr. Shina emphasizes aftercare a lot! It is a structured aftercare program. He does address the risks of this surgery. I would rate Dr. Shina way up there, very close to a 10. Surgical competence is very important with bedside manner second. So far I have not been disappointed, but I understand he has put some people off with his lack of bedside manner. I understand he will not be holding my hand and babying me, that I have to do the work to be successful. I want to do this for me and would hope he would feel good about my success.

My first impression was that he was to the point, very matter of fact.rnThere has been no change in my impression of Dr. Shina.rnThe office staff has always been very helpful and curtious.rnI would not say there is something I like the least. He is to the point.rnAfter care is just as important if not more important than the day of surgery.rnThere is a program starting right after surgery there is structure, structure, and more structure.rnAt your first appointment with Dr. Shina you have a long seminar that go over all of the risks.rnI give Dr. Shina a 9 on a scale of 1-10. rnSurgical competence I would say are above bedside manner, some people tend to say he is too much to the point when speaking to patient.

April 10, 2009rnrnWell, here I am, nine years later and still doing great. My surgery was January 17, 2009 and I have lost a total of 130 pounds from 274. My lowest weight was 134 which was Dr. Shina's goal for me but maintained 145 (my goal) for over seven years. I regained 20 pounds the last two years but I have recently lost 6 pounds of the 20 I have gained by going back to the basics that Dr. Shina has taught me. THANK YOU DR. SHINA!!! I will forever be grateful to you and what you provided me...the tool to belp me loose weight. Please always remember, it's a tool and not a quick fix. Follow Dr. Shina's rules always and you will be fine. rnrnrnrnrnMy very first impression of Dr. Shina wasrnthat he was uninterested in the seminar; butrnonly because I could tell that he had gonernthrough it so many times before and he repeatsrnhimself over and over. As he continued on rninto the discussion of weight loss surgery, rnhe got more and more excited and I could tellrnthat he really has a true compassion for rnpeople who are obese and that he really wantsrnto help them. rnrnThere wasn't anything that I didn't likernabout him. I had already done all of myrnresearch on weight loss surgery and came inrnprepared with my letter to the insurancerncompany. I had all of my documents filledrnout and completed and I think that reallyrnshowed a sign of commitment to him. Anyrndoctor who is about to do a surgery as life rnaltering as this, needs to know that his/her rnpatient is going to do what ever it takes tornchange their life style. This is just a toolrnand not a majic solution. Dr. Shina is veryrnstrict with his instructions and he EXPECTS rnyou to follow them and I have found that mostrnof his patients who do, don't have anyrncomplications. rnrnDr. Shina has a very good aftercare program. rnHe has a support group that he urges yournto attend. rnrnFebruary 12, 2000 -- He was as suspected.rnVery good and very proud of his work. He rnkeeps the nurses on their toes and if theyrndon't follow his protacol, he does get upsetrnwith them. When he came in to talk to me, rnhe came in with the chart already read andrnleft it at the nurses station. That impressedrnme because he spent his time talking to merninstead of reading. He would sit down nextrnto me and he answered all of mine and myrnhusbands questions and never left until we rnwere both through. rnrnI am proud to have Dr. Shina as my doctor.rnHe doesn't kid around and he is moody atrntimes, but I respect him very highly and Irnwouldn't want any other doctor.rnrnrnrn

My first impressions was he seems nice and like he cares. I know he cares about his patients. You feel better when you know your surgeons heart is in their job! They love what they do.The office staff is very helpful, they will answer any question you have, friendly overall good. I haven't experienced anything to like anything least about him. His aftercare, before care, and during care is STRICT/STRUCTURED!!!!! He expect you to follow it to the T. Very honest! I rate Dr. Shina on a scale 1-10 a \"12\" I love him he help me save my life. I would have to say both are great!!!

I found the surgeon pleasant, very informative and a wonderful staff. They are very thorough and a great asset to his business. Answered all my questions, even when I would call daily. Surgery on Monday... will have to let you know how the procedure went...rnrnSept 25th- Did not have surgery, but the dr. was supportive in my decision. Even though I had a drug reaction and was pulled out of surgery at the last minute, they were still very nice.
