Mark Pleatman Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

Dr. Pleatman is very informative and always there to answer a question. He requires you to go to one of his semiars before even making an appointment to be assured this is something you really are ready for.He has been there for me all through my process and problems from my surgery in Mexico that went bad. I'm very thankful that he has put me in his very capable hands, I feel very reassured of that.
His office staff is also the greatest!

Very professional and efficient. Spends alot of time explaining all aspects of the procedure, including risks. Easy to contact him, he has always responded the same day I've contacted him. Structured aftercare, nutritionist on staff.

Dr. Pleatman is great. He is very direct and honest. He is humble and quiet. He is very competant but isn't boastful. He is direct and honest about risks and doesn't sugarcoat the truth.

I got in to see him after attending his information night. The gals in his office (Jo and Karen) are the best. They actually answer the phone instead of the annoying phone systems that take your name and number for someone to call you back.

From my first call to surgery was less than 1 month which is faster than the norm but I had Blue Cross insurance and had all my pre-op testing already complete.

Dr. Pleatman has a support group, a dietician on staff, and an aftercare coordinator. The aftercare support is wonderful and the staff makes you feel very secure and cared about. He does have a "program fee" of $4000 that is NOT covered by insurance. If you pay upfront, the cost is $3500. This covers the dietician costs, support group, and other personalized services that you might need. To get a skilled surgeon with the support staff like his, the money is well spent.

I think Dr. Pleatman's skill as a lap surgeon is unparalled and his bedside manner pleasant. He never hurries you if you have lots of questions, he will listen and answer very honestly. I met with other surgeons before deciding on Dr. Pleatman, I felt comfortable with Dr. Pleatman and his skills.

I have only had electronic communications with Dr. Pleatman and his response time has been above and beyond great. He or his staff respond quickly with answers.
Had my consultation and found Dr. Pleatman to be informative. Come prepared with questions in hand and he will answer them all with patience. I like his sense of humor but if you don't listen close you'll miss it. : )My surgery went great and I will forever be grateful.

Dr. Pleatman is a very honest, tell it like it is, Dr. with a human side. He takes time to listen & encourages you to ask questions. He also has a good sense of humor. His office staff is very informative & friendly. Jo - office manager - especially! Everyone in the office was very supportive before & after my surgery. I think Dr. Pleatman is a superb surgeon and an all around nice guy.
I am very happy to have had him perform my laproscopic bypass surgery this past November. I suggest if you are in this area of MI & are having a hard time finding a great surgeon, look him up. Ask his staff about their support group meetings & attend one. You won't be disappointed.

At First I thought this was a young inexperienced surgeon, But after talking with him directly I soon realized that I was grossly mistaken as this Doctor Knows his stuff. He went over and beyond the call of his services and made me feel like I had a friend that would go to the end of the earth and back for me. He is surrounded by very,very friendly and knowledgeable staff in his office and his residents under him at the hospital also went that extra 10 miles.
He made sure I was more than comfortable and seemed to anticipate my every need while in the hospital which was prolonged and a very taxing time on myself and I saw it in Dr Pleatmans eyes that it was taxing on him.
He IS a great asset to the medical community and the Bariatric Surgery Program.

Dr. Pleatman seems very quiet, but knowledgeable.

If you are looking for a doctor to talk you into surgery, calm your fears about the procedure, chat about the weather, or dominate your decision, you are not at the right surgeon. Dr. Pleatman is absolutely frank. He does not shade, smooth, or color the truth. He is as blunt as he can be. When I asked what are the possible side effects of the surgery. He blurted out "You could die." I knew from my wife's Ob-Gyn that Dr. Pleatman had a reputation as a excellent surgeon, and I assumed that the "swagger" one associates with a top doc would also be evident. This isn't the case. He is unpretentious, easygoing, and laid back. I found his candor comforting because I knew that I was being told the truth. I was impressed by his surgical skills, his attention to detail, and his well run office and procedures.

I was extremely impressed with Dr. Pleatman and found him to be pleasant and informative. His office staff is friendly and available to answer any questions and to help out in any way possible. Dr. Pleatman emphasizes the importance of diet and exercise after surgery. He says that this is not the miracle cure that I must be involved in my own aftercare and go to support groups and follow the correct diet that has been laid out for me! It is a life-changing decision.

My first impression was good. I am also in the medical field so I can be kind of opinionated in this area. I was very comfortable around him. The thing is he is pretty new to doing this sort of surgery but in talking with him I totally trust him. He has an excellent reputation has a surgeon and thats helps me to trust him. The office staff is very friendly and they talk to you, you never get the impression that they are to busy to talk to you, or that your not important. Dr. Pleatman as started up a follow-up and excersize program that he really nice. All in all, I will let you know more after surgery. But so far so good.
