Mark Smolik Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.

I am set for surgery on October 7th with Dr. Smolik. I am pleased with my choice of surgeons. rnrnI have been well pleased with the care and service that I have received. My surgery went well and I have healed perfectly!

The first impression of my surgeon was that he knew what he was doing, My impression never changed. I think is office staff is extremely nice. I can't say that there isn't anything that I dislike about my doctor. Before you have surgery you not only have classes but you also have to prove to them that you have bought all of your supplement supplies that you are going to need after surgery. Overall I thought that Dr. Smolik is a really good doctor. He has both surgical competence and good bedside manner.

I met Dr. Smolik yesterday and was so impressed. He is a very smart and informative surgeon. He is well educated and has done many successful weight loss surgeries. I have 100% confidence in him and believe that he will stand by me through my journey. I was very nervous meeting him for the first time, but he was very kind and wanted to make sure that I was fully aware of what I was getting into. He made sure to answer all the questions I had and nothing was left unanswered. The only negative thing I can think of is the fact that he seemed rushed and talked at a very fast pace, I was still able to fully hear and understand everything. All in all, I am so glad I made the choice to have him as my surgeon!

I had to have gallbladder surgery and wanted to have the same doctor do that do the wls so he would be able to tell if he could do it laproscopically. He said that it should not be a problem to do it that way and he did a great job on my gallbladder surgery so I am hoping for the same success on the wls. The staff at the Mercy Center for Weight Reduction are very friendly. I call and just ask how close I am getting to surgery date and they are very nice about it and not annoyed. He is the Director of their program and I have had a few friends and family members that have gone through there and they had no problems. I am anxiously awaiting my surgery date. I will let you know how I rate him after this is done but as of right now he is at a 10.

I was very impressed with Dr. Smolick. I found him very informative and not rushed. I was not so impressed with his punctuality. However I am 90% positive that he was dealing with some sort of complication that day. I was so nervous about talking to him that I forgot to write down questions and didnt ask him anything. So now I have no idea what a good goal weight would be or anything of that nature.rn

I recently met with Dr. Smolik. He seemed very knowledgable with the procedure and told me what he expected of me as a patient. He seems to have a system for a successful weight loss program and wants me to follow it to a tee.

His staff is very helpful and polite, they make sure everything is going smoothly with the insurance and with the nutritional sides of the program and were very helpful in answering any qustions I had.

We really didn't touch on aftercare at this session but I do know that they have a two year post op program that they want you to follow including support meetings and staff appointments. They don't cut you up and then leave you on your own.

Dr. Smolik was sure that I realized the risks of the operation and that complications could occure if I didn't follow the procedures concerning water intake, exercising, Protein intake and eating only 3 meals a day with no snacking. and that a weight loss of 15 to 20 pounds before surgery makes it go a lot smoother.

I think overall I feel quite comfortable in putting myself in Dr. Smoliks hands along with his staffs. He gave reassurances that with a two person surgery team the surgery will go as smoothly as humanly possible and the program he follows afterwards is quite successful.

Lately I've heard people say that giving 110% isn't all that good because you overperform and cause mistakes. Dr. Smolik used the 110% reference for my commitment to the program and all I ask is that he gives 100% and does not overperform on my surgery.

He didn't rush anything. He tells you the risk and benefits. The aftercare with Mercy is very important to him and his staff. You have to do a lot to get thought there program but it all is for your health and safety. I would rate him a 10. The staff are really nice and they even have the chairs with the wide arms.
I have now had the surgery and want to up date that Dr. Smolik did a great job. My scars are very little and I might be able to wear a bikini. LOL I had no problems at all. He is very nice and I'm glad I choose him as my surgeon. His staff is great and very nice everytime I go to the doctors office. I really like there program that they have there.

Dr. Smolik is wonderful! I could not have made it through this surgery without him and his staff, he is very friendly and has a great bed side manner. He is very thourough and likes to double check everything. He and his staff really emphasize after care, which I find wonderful. Mercy Center for Weight Reduction and Mercy Capital has a very structured aftercare program with monthly meetings and exercise groups. Dr. Smolik went over the risks of surgery many times with me, making sure I fully understood what I was getting into to. I am glad I chose him as my doctor and I dont regret it at all. His surgical competence and bedside manner were both outstanding! The only thing that was not so great was how long it took after the center got my paperwork, it took about four months to get anything going, but other then that all was great with this center and surgeon.
