When I saw my surgeon for the first time at the seminar I thought "oh wow, he's young!". I had met with two other older surgeons and thought I've heard it all. His seminar was great. He was very through about both RNY and Lap-Band. After his presentation he took all the time the potential patients needed in order to ask their questions. He is up front and honest with his patients, and when you meet with him he is one of the nicest surgeons I know.
His office staff is wonderful as well. They had my surgery approved very fast, and have made sure I have everything I need each time I go.

My first impression of Dr. Newlin was that he is very confident in what he does. He is a very no nonsense kinda guy and takes everything very seriously. Haven't had a chance for a one on one yet. Attended a seminar that he requires you to attend if you choose him as your surgeon. I really like the fact that he didn't sugar coat everything and tell you it will all be ok. He pointed out the possible problems that can occur and what to expect. I really like him. More after I finally get to meet with him and talk.

I was very impressed with Dr Newlin at the initial meeting because he pulled no punches. He was very honest about the possible complications and what he expects from his patients. He not only told us the nationwide average for complications, he also gave his own statistics. rnI learned at my first office appointment that he is very serious about his work (I have a warped sence of humor that he didn't seem to appreciate but that DID NOT change my confidence in his abilities)rnrnI am now post-op and I can honestly say I made the ~best possible choice~ by putting myself in Dr Newlin's hands. At only 6 days post-op I am on minimal pain meds, felt great and had no complications.

*What was my first impression of him?

My first impression was "wow, he's young..." I first met Dr. Newlin at his Informational Seminar that he requires if interested in bariatric surgery. I quickly learned by hearing him speak that he is very well educated and very intelligent.

*How did your impression change over time?

Honestly, I was even more impressed once I met with him one-on-one at my first pre-op appointment. I found him to also be open and very caring about his patients.

*How would you describe his office staff?

I basically only dealt with Karen. I can only find one word that describes her best: DEDICATED. She is great!

*What did I like least about him?

I honestly cannot find anything that I didn't like him or his staff. This whole experience has truly been a positive one for me.

*What should future patients know about him?

He is straightforward and honest about the risks of RNY as well as what expect after surgery.

*How much does he emphasize aftercare?

He stresses that after care is very important and is a must.

*Does he have a structured aftercare program?

Yes -- required post-op follow-up visits to his office as well as to the nutritionist.

*How did he address the risks of surgery?

He was forthright on the risks of RNY at his Informational Seminar. He also took the time to address all of my questions at my pre-op appointments.

*How would you rate him overall?

On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate him an 11.

*Which is better: surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great?

Surgical Competence - Considering how well I've done, I've no doubt this doctor is very competent.

Bedside Manner - Wonderful...it's nice to see a doctor smile when he sees you doing well.

My first impression of Dr. Newlin was that he looked like Dale Earnhardt Jr. He is genuinely interested in helping others. He seems sincere in his work.

Dr. Newlins' office staff seems so incredibly sincere also. I haven't spoken with many of them, but Karen is so great.

I was able to quickly get an appointment for my initial visit with them. The best thing is they are close home so I don't have to travel far at all; only about 30 minutes!

Dr. Newlin was great in explaining all the details of the surgery preparations, the actual surgery and what to expect afterward.

He explained the diet that his patients will be on immediately after surgery. He also seems to have a very good after care program set into place.

I believe I am in the best of hands with Dr. Newlin.

Although I haven't had the surgery yet, I expect great results with Dr. Newlin. I will update as needed!!!
