Dr.Hocking in Gainesville, FL. is my surgeon. He's a quiet man, but very nice. He did a very good job with my surgery, very imformative and patient.
His office staff is great. They helped me through a lot of things, from pre-op, to insurance problems and post-op.
All in all I think I picked a pretty good doctor.

His name is Michael P. Hocking and he is the best surgeon you could ever ask for.

I met Dr. Hocking Jan. 14th., 2000 at my first consult with him. I found him to be very open with all his answers to all my questions and those of my daughter and my husband. He took the time to explain things until we fully understood all the details of what he would have to do during the surgery in order to make sure it will be a success for me.

My surgery was February 23rd., 2000. I made it through the surgery with flying colors and without any pain that I can remember. Dr. Hocking and his team took fantastic care of me and I was sent home February 28th. I am so very thankful that I fought for and got approval to have this dr. perform my surgery. My insurance company tried to make me go to another surgeon but after several visits, that surgeon and I didn't see eye to eye so I went back to the insurance company and fought for Dr. Hocking.
I cannot stress enough how wonderful this man is. He is very caring, his office staff cannot be topped by any other group and the professionalism that I saw and received cannot be matched.

I would recommend Dr. Hocking to anyone that needs this surgery and as a matter of fact, come summer... hopefully sometime in July, the Good Lord willing, Dr. Hocking will be performing this surgery on my oldest daughter, Carmelita. This mother is telling you all that I am trusting this man with my daughter's life, need I say more.

I had this surgery done at Shands Medical Center, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida. Although this is an extremely busy hospital, all members of the staff were well trained, very caring, compassionate people who did their utmost to be there when you needed them. If there is ever a time in the future that I would ever need hospitalization again, I have told my husband and the rest of the family that I would not want to go anywhere else for care except to this hospital, unless they just don't have the specifics that I would need.

It is Hocking not Kocking, he is very friendlly and above board. He appreciated the fact I had done my own research and had questions for him. He is sensitive to overweight people and he takes his job seriously. His staff was very nice and both he and his assistant encouraged me to email them at any time. I wish there was a support group but one hasn't been set up yet.
He stresses after care and has a structuredb aftercare program.
I felt very confident with him and feel he will be a great doctor.

I called and made my first appointment with
Dr. Michael Hocking in Gainesville, Florida.
My appointment in January 14,2000. I'm
excited and scared. His office manager,
Rachelle, was very helpful.

Went to my first appointment. It started out
"What can I tell you about this surgery that
you didn't already know?" Dr. Hocking was
very informative and answered all my
questions and gave me his email address if I
could think of any more questions after I
left.

He was very laid back about the surgery. He
didn't try to either encourage me or dissuade
me - merely explained the procedure and a
general idea of what to expect. As his
practice is at SHANDS, he explained that
he is a salaried employee. I like the fact
that this isn't some weight loss surgery
'mill'. He also talked very highly of the
surgeon who performed WLS on my grandmother
some 20 years ago.

He doesn't do the LAP procedure which
surprised me, but after he explained the
details of the open, I'm OK with having the
open. I left feeling much calmer and less
afraid of having the surgery.

His secretary, Rachelle, is a doll. I am
hopeful about the insurance. She told me
their insurance has only had two denials, so
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

2/16/2000 -- I just heard from my insurance
company and they have approved my surgery.
After only one letter. I got a hold of an
actual person at the insurance company and
called her almost everyday. As soon as she
got the word from the review board, she
emailed me with the good news.

Dr. Hocking has an excellent reputation among the staff at UF. He is easy going and will spend the time answering any questions you might have. He appreciates people who have educated themselves through research or on the Internet and have strong opinions on various aspects of the surgery. Support groups are just getting started, but he does have a dietician in place.
