I met with Dr. Walters on 8-22-01. I was very impressed with him, as was my husband. My husband is usually a very good judge of character, and he liked Dr. Walters right off the bat. I felt Dr. Walters was very imformative and patient. He met with myself and two others who are considering WLS. He gave us a summary of what the surgery will consist of and drew us a diagram of the procedure. I am very happy with my choice of a surgeon and recommed and will refer others to him. Annie was also very patient and caring I immediately felt very secure and safe in both of thier hands. I just can't say enough about Dr. Walters and his staff. Sincere and non-judgemental. Seemed to be one of the very few doctors who really understand and care about obesity problems.

Dr. Walters is a very caring, outgoing Physcian. His staff wsa very helpful and understanding via all my panic attacks. His office nurse has recently been thru this, so she is very supportive of Dr. Walters, his operating skills etc. He had me doing all kinds of tests to help ME. To be sure my care is all tended to in case anything should happen. Although the schedule is booked in advance I see a lot of people opting for this surgery, I was so excited in Dec. when I found out my insurance does recognize this as needed surgery, and that all the meds Ihave to take now may be a thing of the past after I loose what I want to, need to, MUST loose. I just want to be
able to live a normal life, with normal loves, with normal enjoyument-to walk with out pain and go anywhere at anytime.

Met again with Dr. Walters to soothe my fears and discuss the surgery itself, I felt silly being so fearful...I never ever questioned his ability-but I traveled 3 hours to him with my questions and in 20 minutes he had answered very successfully all of them-not that he hurried me cause it was a hour and and a half meeting, he covered a lot of things and he is very thourough and very much a perfectionist. He knows what he is doing, now my fears are with myself. And I am determined to not them come about, it is going to be very hard I know, I am definately a food acholic and the mood upswings I hear abotu are going to be me bing angry that I have cut off my so called best friend-food. Now I am going to find the real me again, the one I lost 20 years ago. Thanks to all the staff for sure. They are giving me the tool to begin.

Well,
You guys,I didn't know that I forgot to say
what I felt about Dr Walters. I will say that he
has been a God-Send for those of us in this
area who don't want to wait a year for this
surgery. He is very professional and will
give you as much information about the
procedure that he possibly can. Then he'll
answer all your questions. My mom really liked
him, and I do too. My Mom doesn't give her
approval very easily. Our opinion of him has
remained the same. I think that his staff
deserves an A+ they keep it all together
for him and the patients. They always follow
up and work well with the insurers to make sure
your paperwork gets to where it has to be.
I think that he should get an aftercare,
nutritional program in place. There needs to
be a dietician on his staff. He likes to
emphasis exercise.

Well I am not very good at forming opinions, at least not at first. I have my preop appointment on 02/27/01. Maybe I will have more to go on to form opinion then.

The Lord has it all under control.

Dr Walters is a very compassionate man...when I met him I knew he cared. At first he asks how much you know about WLS, then he explains the different options out there and last explains the procedure he does, VGB. Then he asks you if you have questions, and answers them. He does not "sugar coat" anything...he's very upfront. I really liked him right off and knew I was in good hands...he knows his stuff! The office staff was wonderful, they are always helpful, caring and very professional.
As for what I liked least about Dr Walters...I don't know cause I still feel the way I felt when I first met him.
If you visit Dr Walters...listen first...you'll get your chance to talk once he explains everything. He likes to get it all out there, then ask you what you think.
He is very good about after care and plans to see each patient for at least three years after surgery.
Dr Walters was very frank about all the risks involved.
I would give Dr Walters an A+.
Dr Walters is a competent surgeon and he has a great bedside manner...he was there to see me before and after surgery...he took good care of me.

When I called to make an appointment Tracey mailed an information packet to me. The packet contained detailed info about Dr Walters including education, surgical experience and professional affiliations. It also contained all the medical history forms. I found it very helpful to fill these out before going to the Dr's office. Dr Walters has a good sense of humor. He made jokes several times during the meeting with me and my husband. The Doctor talked with us for about 2 hrs. He explaned the possible surgical procedures, the one he prefers to do on most patients and why. He talked a lot about nutrition. Stated that my calorie intake would be around 800 cals/day postop. He emphasized choosing nutrient dense but low calorie foods and gave several examples of poor choices vs better vs best choices. He told me that the surgery will only give me a tool to aid my wgt loss and that it is up to me to use it effectively. He said that if I melted ice cream and drank it I would not loose wgt no matter how small he made my stomach. Dr Walters also talked about the risks associated with surgery and anesthesia. He told me that there is a "Staple mates" support group is San Antonio and recommended that I attend some of the meetings before having surgery. He gave me the order sheets for preop lab, chest x-ray,& EKG so that I could have them done with my internist & fax the results to his office. He also required that I be checked for sleep apnea & can do that here in Austin. He said that his office will file for preauthorisation with my insurance company when he recieves all the test results. I felt the experience was very possitive and informative. The bigest drawback so far is having to wait a month for an apointment with the sleep clinic.

My first impression of Dr. Walters was, "I just KNOW I'm gonna like this guy...he's so funny". *S* After realizing, of course, that this professional man also had a serious side, my impression only became better and better toward him. Surgery is serious as it is, ya know? Dr. Walters' office staff, namely Tracy and Glenda, were GREAT!!!!! It was like reuniting with long lost sisters or something. Both of these gals had a way of making me feel like part of their family right away. Future patients should know that this Dr. is VERY informative about our options and makes sure everything is clear to us and that all studies and tests are ran. This guy wanted to make sure I quit smoking for at least a month prior to doing any surgery, as I have breathing problems to begin with; smart guy. I've heard that out of all my possible options (and I've done my homework on the others here in San Antonio), that Dr. Walters has an excellent bedside manner, and considers us lifetime patients under his care. I think Dr. Michael Walters is a prime example of God's gift to us of angels on earth!!! *S*

Dr.Walter's is a very nice nice man. Made me
feel at ease instantly. We had a long visit
(over 2 hrs). He explained the different types
of surgeries to me and drew pictures so I could
better understand. He said with my medical
conditions I did meet requirements. His office
staff is wonderful. My medical predetermination
was sent in 5 weeks ago. I've called them a
few times to get updates and they have been
very patient with me.
My surgery was on 9/11/00. Dr. Walters was wonderful. He has a very good bedside manner he really cares about his patients. I would very much recomend Dr. Walters and his wonderful staff.
