Date of surgery June 24,2011. (Open) No complications. Start weight 324. 7 month post-op. -110lbs. Dr.Hares and Jackie are the greatest. Dr.Hares made sure I knew what I was getting myself into during the consultation. My meeting with him was very brief because I had done my homework on the surgery and him. He asked me, How do you want this to work? Do want me to explain everything to you or do you just want to start asking me hundreds of questions. I said no, I don't think I have any questions. He said, Then tell me what you know about the surgery. I proceded to tell him. He then said, Well I guess then we are done, (with a huge smile on his face). I just gave his the easiest consult ever. HaHa. I did see him a couple of more times for pre-surgical visits. He was nice, pleasent, happy, and had a good bedside manner. At the hospital, after surgery I saw him a lot. He was on top of my care. He also called the hospital several times a day to check up on me. I love that he was so involved. Dr.Hares even took the time to speak with my visiting in-laws for about an hour while he was at the hospital checking up on me. Now what surgeon would do that. None that I know of.

As for Jackie (nurse, program director, your Rock), she is the ultimate driving force for your care. She was with me the day of surgery, by my side all the way to the surgery room. After that she is the "ultimate pest" calling you on the phone all the time to make sure you are doing well even if you are a 10 years post-op. This is a very good thing. Jackie has created the ultimate after care program. You can attend bi-weekly meeting for free, but very understanding if you live to far away to attend each meeting. She has gone the extra mile to make a owners manual CD for youself which is wallet size so you can carry with you and one for you PCP. Both CD's have what type of surgery you had, how to care for you in case of and emergency and how to contact herself and Dr.Hares.

This was, so far the best decision of my life. My husband has been so impressed not only my progress but the care and treatment that was received.

Dr Hares and Jackie are amazing! They were so supportive every step of the way. I had some trouble with my insurance and Jackie was on the phone with them immediately and worked it out. What I loved most about them is the support you receive afterwards. Jackie called me on Christmas! You will not find kinder people.

Dr. Hares and Jackie are warm and welcoming. They listen and answer questions and are knowlageable not only of the surgery, but also the concerns about after surgery.
It's important to know that THEY are there for you 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
Jackie called me everyday after surgery to make sure I was doing ok, answering questions, and giving encuragement the entire time.
I am glad I made the decision to have Dr. Hares preform my surgery.
Jackie has a great support group and team for ongoing help.
I 100% recommend Dr. Hares to change your life!

I would highly recommend Dr. Hares. He is kind and very soft spoken dr. He truly cares for your health! Jackie who is his nurse and director of the program is absolutely the best! I am 8 days post op and she has called me every day to check on me.

My first impression of Dr. Hares was hilarious. He was running behind schedule and his wonderful staff informed me. Well when he entered he was out of breath. He ran from the hospital next door to his office to meet with me. I really felt special. But I felt like the doctor take a slow breath and blow it out. LOL...he was able to talk. His staff is wonderful. Carol, who is my right hand sidekick, my insurance coordinator has been on point from the start. Gotta love her. I had a very pleasant experience with his whole staff.

There is not enough room to write about all the wonderful things about Dr. Hares and his staff. He is a kind, gentle, polite, knowledgeable man, who does not have even a trace of arrogance.

Jackie, his Nurse is a doll, how knows more about the DS than probably some surgeons out there. Carol is also a sweetheart. It sounds so cheesy, but I felt part of a family, I really did. I was at his office for about 3 or 4 hours, and all of that was one on one time w/ Jackie and Dr. Hares. Never was rushed, they have an amazing aftercare program. Dr. Hares has done hundreds of DS's.

My surgery went well, I had no complications. The aftercare is phenomenal. They are literally there for you 24 hours a day. I am so glad I chose Dr. Hares, please ask me any questions you have about his program.

My first impression of Dr. Hares was that he definately had experience. My original plan was to get the VSG, but Dr. Hares was able to convince me that a Duodenal Switch would be more conducive. My surgery was a revision from a Lapband and unfortunately there was so much damage from the band, that the length of time in the OR and repairs compromised the full DS surgery so I ended up with the VSG afterall. I am not in the least upset because I trust Dr. Hares judgement and the fact that I emerged ALIVE is worth it all. I am one week post op and already down 23 lbs....whoo hoo. Dr. Hares is also very thourough in answering your questions. He likes to use visuals and is a pretty good artist lol.rnMy impression of Dr. Hares will remain the same and may even improve as I get to know him better through his support group and follow-up appointments. His office staff at the St. John Weight Loss Center are awesome. I was able to speak with the RN, Nutritionist, and other staff members for lengthy periods of time. They are very knowledgable about all of the wls procedures offered. Dr. Hares and his staff emphasize aftercare most. They are proponents of each patient having a good support system and he also offer a FREE support group. Many surgeons do not offer that. While discussing the risks of bariatric surgery, Dr. Hares addressed them according to my health, age, and other factors pertaining to my pre-op testing. I would recommend Dr. Hares to anyone interested in a good surgeon. Dr. Hares works out of two networks and since I have Medicare, I needed to attend a Center of Excellence. Dr. Hares is kind enough to be available through the St. John Weight Loss Center as well as his own private establishment. If anyone has questions please feel free to contact me.

The wonderful Dr. Hares did my revision surgery from a 1992 Adjustable Gastric Band to the DS in November of 2006. I had absolutely no complications and no pain at all, he highly recommended I take an epidural for pain management and I had no pain from the surgery, some discomfort but NO pain. It was an incredible experience. Dr. Hares is a wonderful surgeon in my opinion and his office staff, Jackie and Carol are simply great, very caring individuals. I spent some recovery time in a hotel in Michigan before coming back home to Indiana, it was between Thanksgiving and Christmas and Jackie even brought me a Christmas tree she'd made for my hotel room. My opinion of Dr. Hares got even better when I came back to Michigan to hear him speak at a support group meeting, it was a very informative meeting and I really enjoyed hearing him speak. Dr. Hares emphasizes how important aftercare is and this is thoroughly explained at the consultation with him and Jackie. If I had the whole experience to go thru again I would still choose Dr. Hares, he trained with Dr. Hess and still remains in touch with him. My whole experience was wonderful and my DS has changed my life and given me back my health!

I was very satisfied with my surgeon Dr. Hares. He is a wonderful man and surgeon and I feel so lucky to have been his patient. I cant say enough about how wonderful Jackie and Carol are. Bloomfield Bariatrics was everything I could have hoped for. They are dedicated, hard-working and compassionate people and completely professional ...highly educated...and very experienced.I did my homework previous to choosing them and have never regretted my choice for a second. I feel everything was explained to me...repeatedly and thouroughly for which I was grateful and appreciative. I'd be happy to discuss it with anyone considering using them.rnrnAll my love and eternal gratitude to Dr. Hares...Jackie and Carol..Thank you all so very much!rnrnCyndie B
