Dr kuru and his staff were wonderful!!! The level of professionalism and superior care is amazing!! I thought I was having a complication when I was a week post op and I called at 9 pm thinking I would speak to a nurse. Nope I got dr kuru at home answering the call. His staff is so helpful and the facility is beautiful!! I'm about 30 lbs away from my goal and couldn't be more happy!! 155 down so far! Thanks again de Kuru!!

Dr. Kuri placed my lap band in January of this year. Last week I underwent emergency surgery because nothing (not even fluids) were getting through the band. The surgery showed the band had slipped up on my esophagus and I had severe scarring. The words my new surgeon used was "It was a mess!". I spoke with Dr. Kuri today who refused to give me a refund and hung up on me. PLEASE DO NOT USE DR. KURI FOR YOUR BAND.

Dr. Kuri and Staff are some of the most carring people I have ever met. He did not do my sugery. He took me in after my sugeron was slain in Monterey. He has always been there for me even though he did not band me. Two of my friends were banded by him. I went to Mx. both times. They had GREAT,CAREING care. He is all that and a box of chocolates. He really cares about us as family members. I would send my mother or child to him. That is how much I respect him and his staff. Sheryl King-Lile Loveland Co.

I was Banded June 30th, 2009. I spend $10,000 not including travel expenses. I was ok with the meeting with Dr Kuri. I was ok with the info etc. He held up a band in the meeting to the other people and told me this band is the most recent and safest, etc. I went into surgery the next day. My sister told me I stopped breathing several times after the surgery. But I dont remember. Overall experience was well. However it is Sept 2011 and I am heavier now than I was when I went in for surgery. I went in at 360 and am now 375. I havent been filled either since the initial surgery, yet wasnt told til I was already down there, I would need a fill 6 weeks after surgery. How was I going to make another trip to mexico 6 weeks later. So I gave it some time and was going to wait til I stopped barfing etc. I am an over eater. Obviously I eat unhealthy. I think my main thing was I need to learn portion control and calorie counting before I WENT in for surgery. So now, I eat what i want, as much as I want and I still have band in place? Weird. I need to find a doctor here in tx that will see me and let me know what else im doing wrong. I have emailed and phoned DR KURIS office a few times and get no response.

Dr Kuri is an excellent surgeon. He is one of the pioneers of the lapband procedure. He was very honest about the procedure and how I still had to do my part and give up ice cream, which was and is my biggest problem. I go to see Dr Kuri every year for a fluro. I feel it's important to the care of my band.

I am an Interventional/ICU nurse and was banded by Dr. Kuri in January of 2006. I had a absolutely amazing surgery experience with Dr. Kuri and the state of the art Hospital Angeles. I lost a little more than 100# the first year I was banded and more importantly, have kept that weight off. I now work as a Facilitator for Dr. Kuri and I am very proud of the wonderful aftercare we have in place. It just keeps getting better and better. I am very happy that I made the choice to self pay and have my surgery in Mexico. My insurance would have paid for me to have my surgery here in the U.S. but the surgeons in my city had not done very many bands at the time I was researching my surgery. I made the decision to go to Mexico because Dr. Kuri had done many thousands of LapBands and I well know that practice makes perfect when it comes to choosing a surgeon. rnrnJoAnn Jackson, RN, BSN

Shortly after I was married I came to the conclusion that my weight was hindering my life. I weighed 272 lbs. and all my clothes were so tight that I was miserable. A friend of mine had gastric bypass surgery but I was not comfortable with that particular procedure so I continued my research and found the Lapband with Dr.Kuri. For the next several months I spent every night at the computer talking to others and reading stories from patients of Dr.Kuri’s. I knew the Lapband was the right procedure for me!rnrnAt first the thought of going to Mexico was a shock for both my self as well as for my friends and family. However it was the most positive medical experience I've ever had. I found the hospital to be very sterile and advanced in technology.rnrnI felt like I wasted all of my 20's and most of my 30's being overweight, but thanks to the lapband and Dr.Kuri I now have my health, my body and my life back. I can’t express how happy I am that I made the decision to take charge of my life!

My name is Eveleine Currier and I am a Patient Facilitator for Dr. Kuri. I want to thank him for helping me to make the best decision I could have ever made. The LAP-BAND has given me my life back. The weight loss has given me the ability to really live my life again. To be able to share my story and help others achieve their goals is the greatest gift I can give in return.rnrnMy story, hmmm…. well it seems one day I just realized I got fat, and I couldn’t help but think, “how the heck did that happen?” I had never had a weight issue as a child. I was always active and had a high metabolism. I guess I took that for granted when I met my husband and life just seemed to slow down. Being married, I started making dinner with desert to follow and staying home instead of going out dancing. Every time clothes got a little tight I would just go shopping. Then, one day I woke up and I wasn’t a size 3 anymore… I was an 18+.rnrnI started to go through the diet fads one-by-one. You name it, I tried it. The weight would start to come off and then I would lose interest. Yo-yo dieting was hard on the mind and body. rnrnAt 31 I decided enough was enough, surgical intervention was going to be the answer. In doing my research, I felt I was too young to go the rest of my life with the side effects of gastric bypass.rnrnThen I saw a medical program about the LAP-BAND procedure. All I could think was, “WOW this is for me!” A friend and I did months of research, but we still had so many questions. It was so great to learn about a gastric weight loss tool that is adjustable and even removable. We found Dr. Kuri and knew that his experience and success with so many patients would help us. Of course I made her go first, and we were on our way.rnrnThe day of surgery I weighed in at 242 pounds. At 5’8’’ that was a reality slap from the 120 pounds I was used to. The surgery was very easy for me; after a few days of being sore, I was back to work. The hardest part was making the decision to take control of my weight and eating habits. No longer was a large pizza going to be the answer! Feeling good and looking good was going to be the reward.rnrnI was banded on August 12, 2004 and lost 50 pounds by January 2005. I found out a month later that I was pregnant with my second child. Dr. Kuri drained my fill to 1.0cc and said to watch my eating and exercise and that I should only gain healthy 25-30 pounds. “Yeah, right” I thought. With my first pregnancy I gained 65 pounds! Well, he was right I gained 28 pounds over the whole pregnancy and lost 38 pounds about six weeks later. And not even three years out and one pregnancy later I have lost over 100 pounds and feel great.rnrnThe best advice I can give to anyone feeling trapped with their weight, is do your research but don’t waste valuable years before you to do something about it. Stays focused on your weight loss goals and remember that the band is simply a tool to help you achieve those goals. You will still have to do your part with proper diet choices, self-control, and exercise. The LAP-BAND has so much to offer as a weight loss tool.rnrnTo Dr. Kuri, once again, thank you. Thank you for being a great Doctor and sincerely a wonderful spirit to know and call my friend. To make everyone feel special and capable of success is a gift you gives us all. rnrnEveleine CurrierrnPatient FacilitatorrnBanded August 12, 2004

I have had nothing but trouble. The Los Angeles hospital is clean and nice and the staff seemed good enough. I met with Dr Kuri before surgery very quickly to go over what would happen. He was very rushed and i did not get my questions answered. rnI never saw him again. Someone else checked me after surgery after I gave my money. When I call, another doctor calls back. When I had trouble after trouble all they said was to come back to Mexico. This is not possible on quick notice with 4 small children a job and a sick mother. rnI had to see a doctor nearby who thankfully took me in, warned me about Mexico and the Mexico doctors, and had to remove the old model band he said was put in at a bad place. He gave me the newest model that he says is much better than the old ones that are used in Mexico, after i heled for 3 months. He said I should have gotten the new band in the first place. The coordinator never said I'd get an old model Band in Mexico. This has cost me more than $27,000 already, most of my savings, and I should have gone to an american doctor in the first place. rnAt least i have lost 87 pounds by now, but it had nothing to do with the poor care I feel I received from Kuri in Mexico.

I was invited by Dr. Kur'is office to write a review. I'm sure I am on some mailing list. rnThe surgery and hospital were fine. Kuri seemed fine too but there was no more than 5 minutes with him before surgery. rnMy friend who went with me for surgery told me later that Dr. Kuri propositoned her. She told me this after he called me later to ask for her phone number. He never even asked me how I was doing but only wanted her phone number. He said he had \"information\" for her and i thought it was very weird. rnThis is horrible and I never went back to him for myself. He wanted to meet her in San Francisco for a fling. rnI talked with Joanne about this and she said to keep it quiet and brushed me off. I wonder how often this happens. rnI did go with a friend for a fill a few months later and saw that fills are an assembly line with 30 people waiting all at the same time. She did not get any questions answered and got no individual time at all. I got all my care locally before my band eroded 14 months later and had to be removed. They said when they took it out it was placed wrong.rn
