My first impresssion of Dr. Tomasello was a positive one. He seemed very empathetic to my needs. He explained everthing about the surgery-before and after. His educational seminar at University was extremely informative.

I went to the seminar in November, and went to see the Dr. in December, also scheduled for the Psych eval in December, but it got canceled & rescheduled for January.

Anyways, I finally went and am awaiting approval from Insurance company.

Dr Tomasello, was very nice and answered most questions before asked, which I had several. The girls in the office were very nice and accomodating, I had questions for them too, since a couple had also had the surgery. While I was waiting, I saw a couple of people that were at the seminar at same time as me & we talked & exchanged phone and emails.

I chose Dr. Peter Tomasello in Plantation, FL. I went to his information meeting at University hospital. I liked that they had done alot of research at other BIG hospitals out of the state, and complied their own program. "Taking the best from all programs" I also like that he in the cheif surgeon at the hospital. I met with him at the office a few weeks later. He basically went over the same things as the info meeting. No small talk just down to basics and the facts. He said I would be a good candidate for surgery. Yeah!!! He said that portion control will be an issue for me for the rest of my life. If you go be prepared for a wait in the waiting room. The after care program is part of the program - no additional cost. They meet once a month.

My first imprerssion of Dr. Tomasello was that he truly is a kind and caring Dr. interested in the best for you. I beleive he would only do this surgery because he beleives in it comletely with his heart and your best interest in hand. He is a highly experiencd surgeon with a remarkable background as a surgeon. I feel confident in putting my life in his hands. If I had not found him , I do not think I would be going ahead with this life altering surgery that I beleive will make my life for the better and let me take control of my weight and health.
I also think University Hospital that he perfoms the surgery at has an excellent aftercare program thats included with having this surgery. The staff seems to all be excellent at this point, I am 3 weeks pre-op. All the risks of surgery were well defined. They pass out a very imformative booklet that explains everything and Dr. Tomasello answers all your concerns. This is only my opion, but this is my experience and thoughts this far as I await surgery.

Dr. Tomasello, bariatric staff and his custom designed program is top-notch. I was so impressed with his program the closer I got to the surgery date. They have gleaned the best from the best programs from around the country to create their own. Support, knowledge and compassion is offered all along the way. My surgery was done 9/10/03 (lap) and after the first day I had little to no pain. I was closely monitored at the hospital and the staff was just amazing. Believe it or not, I actually had fun with many of the nursing staff. Dr. Tomasello's attention and patience in answering my questions at discharge was a welcome relief. So often, doctor's are in a rush and just can't be bothered. Dr. Tomasello approach was refreshingly different. Aftercare, exercise and following the diet stringently are stressed. I agree. After going through getting the approval and the surgery, I will do my part to be a SUCCESS. Six days out and I feel so good. I take my walks, vitamins and rest as my body dictates. The only area of confusion is the taking of medications required before surgery. I am contacting my PCP for help on this today.

Dr Tomasello is a no nonsense type of surgen. From the very begining everything is explained to you and then you are given booklets with it all written down so you can read it over again. All risks are explained to you. Office staff is friendly and helpful.
Don't ask him question that are answered in the booklets. Aftercare is brought up and talked about at EVERY vist. There is an once month support group, I wish it was twice a month. How do I rate him? Well 3 months after the surgery I still rate him excellant.
I guess most people would rate his surgicl competence better than his bedside manner, but I like his no nonsence style just fine. If you are following the program you get his approval if you are not, he will get you back on couse by tell you the risks of what you are doing.

As of today, I have completed my pre-op work and met with Dr Tomasello. I am waiting for insurance approval. My personal impression of Dr Tomasello is that I am very impressed with his bedside manner and his comfortable approach to his patients. He is extremely friendly and very open and willing to help his patients. Always ready with a warm and welcoming smile. My professional impression of Dr Tomasello is that he is very knowledgable and experienced. I am completely comfortable trusting him as my surgeon and basically with my health and life. Dr Tomasello covers all aspects of the surgery and post-op care. After all, this is not a "cure-all" for obesity, you have to work hard over time to keep it working for you. The office staff was a bit cold and distant but I am sure as familiarity develops, they will become comfortable with us. We did have an 1130am appointment that was pushed back to 2pm, because Dr Tomasello was in emergency surgery, and we ended up waiting 1 2/2 hrs to be seen. It was all worth it though. You are required to attend a pre-op information meeting prior to schedualing an appointment, which are held on a monthly basis at a neighboring hospital and then you can schedual an appointment and I had my first appointment within a month. I am very pleased with Dr Tomasello and his staff, all around, he and his office, I strongly recommend.
