Rami E. Lutfi Bariatric Surgeon MD, FACS, FASMBS

Dr. Rami E. Lutfi is Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery at University of Illinois at Chicago. A graduate from Chicago, finished General Surgery training from the University of Illinois at Chicago; UIC, Dr. Lutfi chose to pursue additional training in Advanced Minimally Invasive Surgery, and Bariatric Surgery at Vanderbilt University. He spent a year of research during his fellowship where he looked at the gastro-esophageal physiology, therapeutic endoscopy, and more importantly Quality of Life (QOL) improvement after Bariatric surgery. He has published numerous papers about QOL in morbidly obese patients after surgery, and presented his work in many National meetings. After finishing his research, he spent an additional year of training performing purely Advanced Laparoscopy, with special emphasis on Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Lutfi is certified by the American Board of Surgery, and is President of the American Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeons (ASMBS), and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Dr. Lutfi is currently the Director of Bariatric Surgery at Mercy Hospital, and he performs Advanced Laparoscopy and Robotic Surgery in many other hospitals in Chicago.
