Dr. Cook is very up front with you about surgery and that is very important to me. I went in with four pages of questions (some I'd gathered from this website) and he'd covered most of them before I could ask. He has a wonderful bedside manner and is very amusing. I'd started attending a support group before my surgery and he encouraged me to continue. He was up front about the risks of surgery.

The girls in the office are wonderful. I've called, emailed about little things and always get a quick answer. They made sure I understood from day one that they are here for me ANYTIME!

I highly recommend Dr. Cook.

He was very friendly, honest and forthright, and took time with me to explain everything and answer questions and I never felt rushed.
Lisa and Missy are the girls in his office and they are both very sweet and are always there to answer your questions.

Before the consultation I'd gone to a group meeting. I had the opportunity to ask a lot of questions and he was there to answer them and I was reassured about the way he answered the questions. I think he is confident in his abilities and knows that each of us wants the best out of life. He has done quite a lot of these surgeries. He was honest and to the point, which was good for me to see. I feel that I am in good hands as he has not lost a patient yet!

You should be on a diet plan suggested and followed by your private physician for at least 6 months. You do not have to lose weight, just have doccumentatation that you are being followed and have the PP send the monthly visits information to him and Dr. Cook will do the rest.

Faye Barfield, who conducts the group meetings is who I went to for nutrition and mental evaluation, so she will help me after the surgery.

I know that with any surgery there are risks, but I know I am in good hands with God guiding his hands and giving him wisdom and knowledge and Jesus comforting me and interceding on my behalf. When the surgery is over I will be able to say more about him.

Dr. Cook has a very professional aire to him. He is serious, self assured and knowledgable and those are good things. I like him even more now that I am post-op and did not have any pain or discomfort from gas or anything else!!! I originally thought with lap there are 8 cuts, so I asked him about the 6 I had gotten, he laughed and asked me how many did I want--that 6 was what everyone got.

Ok, you guys. We have had a change in plans. My insurance is changing in January they will no longer cover all of the surgeon, 2nd surgeon or the knock out guy. So, I had to search frantically for another doctor. Dr. Cook will be doing my surgery on 12/22/03. Please, keep me in your prayers.

God Bless Everyone!!!!!!

Has ANYONE ever heard of this situation?
I have had all my tests, paid $200 for the psych test myself, had the final office consult with the doctor & was told I was a good candidate for the surgery. I pre-registered at the hospital & was told his office was "very mixed up" and they had filed no insurance papers for me! That's another long, disappointing delay. I called his office manager, she secretly recorded the conversation. She played it for the doctor. He wrote me saying that since I don't get along with his staff he will not do the surgery.

When I first decided to have this surgery. I searched the internet looking for surgeons in my area. I called a couple, I did not like the greeting I received during initial contact. But when I phoned Dr Cook's office his receptionist "Lisa" was so patient and understanding. She explained the process, asked me some questions. It was comforting to feel that someone had time to help me deal with my personal life threatening crisis. When I met Dr Cook, he was as calming and reassuring as his receptionist. I had confidence that I was in the most capable hands.

My opinion has not changed. Since surgery I have seen the most caring christian man. I am very comfortable with my doctor and his office.

Try him you'll trust him.

Dr Cook stressed aftercare during consultation. He always praises any form of exercise and encourages more.

He explained the risk was 1/200 could die from this surgery. He actually scared me he was so upfront and factual.

On a scale of 1 to 10. He is 9.

His bedside manner was awesome. His surgical competence was also awesome. Both are great.

I went for my 1st vist with Dr Cook on March 6. I was really impressed that he took time to TALK to me, not just get me in and out and tell I needed to lose weight. My journey to his office has been a long one. I have met with two other Doctors, one in Montgomery and one in Atlanta. I decided for sperate reasons those were not the Doctors for me. I was so happy to discover Dr Cooks is absolutley Wonderful. I went to my psych. elvaluation on SATURDAY and now I just wait for insurance approval. We are hoping to have a surgery date within a couple of months.

Dr Cook took the time to explain the procedure in depth and the benefits and risks. For me the benefits of having a chance a healthier and longer life far out weigh the risks of surgery.
My only disappointment is Dr Cook will do the surgery open. I really was hoping for a lapersopic surgery, but because my BMI is 57 an open procedure is what he recommends. I will need a little more recovery time (4 to 6 weeks) but I can live with that. I am ready to be on the road to a healthier me.

First impression was good. I met him a few years ago. My wife and I both liked his honesty. He told you a few thigs you might not read in the little brochures you read.
He also said he was not comfortable doing a scope on me. He also told me that I should be prepared to be cut no matter who did my surgery. Any good surgeon should let you know there is a possibility that if they don't like the way things are going in the surgery, then they may stop the scope and switch to the open method. That is important to me because I have to make arreangements to miss 6 weeks of work and not 2 weeks. BIG difference.
Did not have problem with me seeking other Dr. and still began the approval process.
The girls there are very sweet.
Told me that I could get my counseling from anyone, but he has a woman that has had the surgery, Faye Barfield who gives 3 hrs of counseling prior to surgery and unlimited for 6 months afterwards for a total of $150. Dr. Cook said that was the best $150 I would ever spend. So far I have nothing negative, but we will just have to see. We have a ways to go yet.

Dr. Cook is very kind and did a great job of explaining the surgery and risks. He patiently answer all my questions and had a great sense of humor. My husband was there and he tends to be somewhat sarcastic.
Dr. Cooks staff is great they are very helpful and a pleasure to deal with.
