Richard Wilson Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.
I am very pleased with my choice of surgeons. Dr. Wilson was very professional and informative throughout the whole process. He was never rushed and always would make time to answer any questions I might have. His screening process was very thourough which gave me comfort in knowing that I was a qualified candidate.
Dr. Wilson seems nice and made me feel very confortable with him. He was very informative and caring during the first visit. His staff has been extremely nice and helpful and Chrissy his assitant is soooooo extra wonderful. She was there to answer all my questions and when she called to tell me i was approved she was there to listen to my excitement. I am thankful to have such a wonderful surgeon and staff. I hope i feel the same after the surgery :)
Dr. Wilson was very reserved and quiet spoken. From speaking with other patients I've learned he is a very reserved person but very nice and caring of his patients. All of his office staff is very friendly and I love that some of his nurses have previoulsy had gastric bypass surgery as well. I would definitely refer other people to him that are interested in this procedure, he's very knowledgeable with this procedure and has a great bedside manner.
I've been told that he gets quite angry when patients don't follow the pre-surgery diet of high protein two weeks before and only liquids for two days before surgery.

Dr Wilson was very positive and his staff very professional I have found each one to be concerned about my pending surgery. At this time I have had only good experiences with all the medical staff whether it be through the pre surgery education classes, dietician review, physciatric profile, and my monthly visits to my regular Dr for all the required process in order to have Blue Cross Blue Shield to approve my surgery
Very good. Very professional, he always answered any questions and even though he has a very busy practice he never seemed to be in a rush when it was my turn.
Office staff helped me with what I needed to get approved. Very courteous.
Can't think of anything I liked least.
I feel like Dr.Richard Wilson is very caring and cautious. He advances your diet slower than some surgeons but he and the dietition seem to feel they are getting better results and fewer complications (and that's what it's all about!)
He expects us to follow up with him and 1,3 and 6 month appts with dietary counciling(more it needed)
Very straightforward about risks( it kept me from thinking about cheating)
Excellent!!!! Also, Panama City is much closer to me than Tallahassee (next surgeon), so if I were to have a problem, I would be closer to home.
I think both are great.
I go to meet Dr Wilson On March 12, at 10:45
I am so anxious, I can barely wait!!
His office staff for the most part have been helpful,Heather( his receptionist) seems very informed and seems glad to answer questions that I have, Christy seems a little cold but I guess thats good at not getting ones hopes up.
March 12,2004
I am so discouraged today,Moments before I walked out the door Christie called and said she would have to rescheldule my appointment for a later date.." THE END OF MARCH " I have waited nearly 2 months for this appointment, I am devestated. No compasion with Dr.Wilson's practice.I have come to the conclusion they are cold and bitter,Christi understood that I needed to have my insurance in and done with by the end of march..My insurance switches over to BCBS of Florida as of May 1 and I really wanted it done by then..( insurance reasons) I just feel they are stalling me...
I have called Dr.Jim Valentines office and they seem so nice but I am in Florida and he is in Nampa, Idaho. But I 've done my reaserch and found that he is one of the best in the USA....
she said send in my paper work they'll get me approved and I will fly up to idaho and have my consultation and surgery days apart...( sister lives in Mountaim home ,Idaho)
Right now I have nothing at all good to say about Dr. Wilson's Office staff..I have not met Dr.Wilson yet but will post my opinion on him as soon as I do.My new consult date is March 23rd..
March 23,04
I met with Dr.Wilson today. He was very nice seemed kind of shy though.I think I controlled the conversation and he didn't like that to much..LOL but all in all he said I was a good candidate for the surgery.I was nervous as $%#@ but after meeting him I was my old self.He looked over all my information and was very pleased that I kept alot of documentaion over the 9 years..( I had to do alot of investigating to get it all )he still insisted on a letter from my PCP and said the more documentation we have the better for a speedy autherization.. Christie, his personal nurse ( @#$%& ) she said at the seminar that 5 months of weight documentation was enough, now is telling me I need to get april, Darn them.. But that's ok April is just right around the corner..and I think I feel a bladder infection coming on..hee hee
so as for my thoughts on Dr.Wilson , He is very nice..Quiet but nice and I think he will do a wonderful job..IF I GET APPROVED!!
MArch 24,2004
I called My Benefits center for my insurance carrier, she said she tried to get in touch with Christie and was told that Christie would not provide any information on my case until monday.. Gosh darn it, I have the review board calling Dr.Wilson's office and they won't release any information until monday? thats 5 days away!!!! grrrrr
Christie what are you doing to me girlie?
April 10,2004
Ok, I take back everything I said about Christi, She is a little rude sometimes..not really rude just short and to the point..umm Negative. but she knows her job and she does it, I have to give her credit poor girl..She definitley works her butt off. She works for the only Dr.Who does this surgery for hundreds of miles around.. And now with the insurance companies announcing non payment for this procedure come jan 1,2005..she has to be pulling her hair out..
April 5th Tuesday 6:04 p.m.
I just recieved a phone call from SHPS international and
I WAS APPROVED!!! I can't wait!! Dr.Wilson's office is closed right now but I will be at his office first thing to tell christie the Great news.
April 6th wednesday
Ok I went to see Christie this morning and she was her sweet negative self..( no offense ) she explained just because I was approved doesn't mean the hospitals will have an opening for me.. She called them while I was there, I tried for Bay MED because I thought it would be cheaper in the long run.. No openings :o( Now remember, I must have my surgery schelduled and done before May 1st,2004..( switching insurance companies, not me but my employeer
so she called Gulf Coast and what do ya know.... They have an
opening at 9:30 a.m.on April 20th
YAY, I was excited..I asked christie if her patients ever got as excited as I did.. she said NO...LOL
she 's so funny..ha ha
anyways I guess after she realized my excitement she tried to burst my bubble..I think..
she went on to inform me BEFORE SHE CAN SCHELDULE MY APPOINTMENT I HAD TO PAY MY OUTTA NETWORK COST UP FRONT.. which was 60/40
of the surgeons cost.. which came to $2,500.I said okay.. let's take care of that charge right now.her reaction was.. " I hope it's not a check, we don't take checks..I told her I was aware of that but I have crdit and slapped down my credit card.. Charge me baby!!lol( I didn't say that..I just made eye contact and smiled..
she was still hesitant but she charged me through and then schelduled a few pre=op test and told me to schedule a pre-opt meeting class.. I have taken care of my schelduling..I had my abdominal ultrasound the same day as my meeting with christie and because I was unable to ask Dr.Wilson questions I had during our consultation she scheduled one with him for the following week before my surgery.. Now I just have to wait..
9 more days and a wake up..
Dr. Wilson was very nice, I met him at an earlier meeting they had. He was very easy to talk to and he answered all my questions. I didnt feel rushed like with some doctors. His staff on the other hand was real rude. they acted like I was just some moron who had no clue about anything. I cant really say that for all the staff members but for the most part the ones I did speak with need an attitude adjustment.
