I love being a patient of Dr. Bell. He performed my VSG on 12/19/17. After attending his informational seminar in April 2017, I didn't bother seeing anyone else (not that I saw anyone else to begin with). He has a great bedside manner. He explains everything in everyday language and doesn't talk down to you. He is very reassuring as he listens to your questions and concerns. I will continue to recommend him to anyone who is considering bariatric surgery.

Wonderful doctor and healthcare provider. His bedside manner is unmatched ! I have worked with many doctors and surgeons over the years and he is in the top five.

Explains everything in detail and is always happy to see you. He genuinely wants to help you.

My father was one of the first people ever to have a gastric bypass in the early 70s. My doctor trained under that Dr. At New Haven Hospital. He remembers my dad's case.

I first met Dr Bell at a support group for people who have had weight loss surgery or just looking into it. I had already decided to go with the group at Yale New Haven hospital, but was unsure of which doc to go with. When I saw Dr Bell take time out of his day to come to this meeting that sealed the deal. I really did not interact with him much, but he seemed very down to earth and willing to answer any questions we had, with a very easy to understand answer. When the office staff called to set up my consultation I chose him right away. The first visit was a group session. It was a good experience for me, but if you are a shy person this may not be the best set up. I do understand why the office does it this way, just to streamline information in the fastest possible way. A good thing about this approach is that someone may ask a question that you never even thought of. The next visit was one on one. You could ask more specific questions and Dr Bell went over the complications to the surgery. Of course mostly the major complications related specifically to the surgery are addressed. I suggest researching thoroughly about issues that may arise after surgery. Even misinformation is better than no information. This way you can ask and get an informed answer. This is the way he works. Dr. Bell goes over alot of information, but the more informed you are before hand, the better off you are as a patient. Another thing is he does not rush you through an appointment. If you have 100 questions he will answer them all. Dr. Bell is a competent surgeon with an amazing bedside manner. I'd go to him again!

My mom works for Yale New Haven hospital and deals with the best of the best doctors. She and her coworkers swear by him so I decided to go to a group meeting and check him out. I was surprised of how REAL he was ; he didn't sugar coat anything. Before I could set up my one on one with him I had to attend a group meeting with all his other future patients. And their is where I got to know his humorous side..he has such a BIG personality. He was very funny and pacient with all our questions. He seemed like he knew the Surgey like the back of his hand...he never folded under pressure even with the most ridiculous questions people had to ask. The one on one went fast as expected. We spoke briefly before the surgery. After surgery he gave me words of encouragement and sent me on my way. I had no complications. From a scale of 1-10 I give Dr.Bell a 10. He is truly an angel sent to this earth.

Dr. Bell's skills are unmatched. I have had many surgeries over my 58 years. At the time prior to my meeting Dr. Bell, I felt I was at deaths door. I attended a few of his WLS meetings and was so impressed with Dr. Bell's knowledge and his ability to put me at ease and give me hope. Well I had the surgery in March of 2008, I lost over a hundred pounds and I feel great! I just had my four year check-up. Over the years I have had a few of my co-workers get their "second chance" through WLS with Dr. Robert Bell and his great team. Dr. Bell's skills and confidence with a balance of humbleness and caring for his patients puts him at a level not seen much today.
I constantly tell my wife, "I love this doctor". She gets it!

I am one of Dr. Bell's patients. I had my RNY on 3/7/11. I met him at first at one of the support group meetings and he put my mind at ease. He made me feel like I was making the right choice for me. I am 2 weeks out and have followed his advice to a T. I feel very good and I felt good through the whole process. I knew what was going to happen both good and bad. One reviewer said he plans your life for you when he first meets you. He has a plan and if you listen it works. I love the fact that he is at his support group meetings. He is very a matter of fact and answers questions so that you can understand them. You feel during the whole process hes there with you and really cares.

I meet Dr Bell at a WLS support group meeting that took place at the Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in either Oct. I was so impressed with his information he shared that night. When I meet him again at his office in Nov I was sure that I had the right Dr to take care of my surgery.
Everyone at his office seems to be there to make sure you have all your paperwork done right so that there is not any hold up for surgery to take place.
After my surgery he visited me in the hospital and continues to be up-lifting and positive. As far as a aftercare treatment I would say that he is right on and knows what he is doing. If you are looking to get the surgery and can have him, go for it. I don't think you will be sorry you did.

He was very friendly. He remains very friendly. The office staff are on top things. They are also very organized. I have the impression it is a LARGE practice and they have their rules for a reason. You will have to adjust your schedule to theirs. I like Dr. Bell, he calls back during the week days. Although when I had problem over the weekend the doc that called back didn't know me at all.rnIt's been my experience that Dr. Bell begins planning for his patient's futures the minute he meets them. He constantly makes statements like: 2 months out you'll be working out; 6 months out you'll be working out even harder; and 18 months out you'll be preparing for plastic surgery. Dr. Bell speaks very clearly and concisely. He has a very structured longitudinal program. Dr. Bell spoke very clearly about the risks however, he also offered many precautions and solutions these risks. At the hospital I only saw Dr. Bell once. And the other docs on the unit, well I wouldn't have chosen them. In addition, I didn't really like the way my discharge went. I kind of got the impression I was discharging myself. I didn't feel competent that Dr. Bell was up on everything going on with me at the hospital.rnI highly recommend Dr. Bell. In addition I think he surrounds himself with other professionals and competent people.rnI believe surgical competence is a necessity and priority. However, for me I like a doc with good social skills as well.rn
