Dr. Cooney has moved to the Syracuse, NY area. I was nervous with my first appointment because he was new and I didnt know his background. Turns out he has been involved in bariatrics for quite awhile and is now the Chief of Surgery at Upstate Medical Center. Everything I have heard about him has been positive and I am very excited to have him as my surgeon.
He is fantastic he really goes into detail makes sure you understand I seen him at least twice a day or he was talking to my nurse. every day he stayed on top of my condition I had a problem with my o2 level dropping below 75-80 he was very concerd about my recovery,I can only say if you are thinking about using him you would be making the best choice for a surgeon.I had an open RNY on 2/11/09 and I never had any pain.......................................................On Feb 26th had my appt with Dr.Cooney I was having a problem with getting a deep breath in and a pain in my lower lwft lung he sent ,e to Hershey hospital for a lung scan aftewr the scan I was taken over to admittions I had 3 clots in my left lung..........April 23rd seen my Dr. again I am down 62 lbs I can`t believe.
Dr Robert Cooney is THE BEST!!! When I went in for my consult, he was honest, and upfront! He answered all the questions that we had! He made me feel very comfortable!! That man saved my life, and made it possible for me to have 2 beautiful children!!!!rnTHANK YOU DR COONEY!!!!!
THE FIRST TIME I MET DR. COONEY I KNEW HE WAS A WONDERFUL DR. WHO CARED ABOUT HIS PATIENTS.HE EXPLAINED EVERYTHING TO ME SO I COULD UNDERSTAND THE RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS OF SURGERY. IN MY OPINION, HE IS THE BEST DR. THANKS SO MUCH DR. COONEY!!!
Dr. Cooney is very good. He has a dry sense of humor and is very caring. He's not a "touchy-feely" person - but he is good at what he does! He is not a "chatty" person either but will take time to explain and answer your questions. He was also a very good advocate for me in the hosptial when I had a problem with post-op pain (anesthisia screwed up with a few things - nothing major - but when Dr. Cooney came in to see me and I started crying - he took care of it and helped me voice my frustration and anger about the situation to the right people).
Before surgery he talked to me about his "stats" which were very impressive - and after having the surgery I'm sure that they were completly accurate. I have had NO problems with my stoma whatsoever! The drain came out before I left the hospital and I couldn't be happier that I was blessed with him for my surgeon.
Dr. Cooney is very big on follow-up with the nutritionist program at Hershey and they are all a GREAT team. I really feel that they know what they are doing and are constantly looking for ways to do it even better.
In my book he gets a "10" across the board!
he knows his stuff, his heart is to helping ppl that are obese his program shows it . i really appreciate him so very much . he has a wonderful team working with him.i owe this man my life..
I feel really comfortable with him. He explained everything to me even though I already knew what he was explaining. Made me aware of risk and took time to let me ask all the questions I wanted and needed to know. He has done almost 700 surgery's only 3 people died and they didn't actully die from the surgery. He also got an award for being a good surgeon. He specializes in his field. He also let me know he cares
Dr. Cooney is outstanding, I first saw him and heard him talk about the surgery at an informative meeting before I was even sure I was going to have the surgery. He was so good and I learned alot from him. When I finally had my first meeting with him I was very impressed. He doesn't mess around he is very upfront and knows his game. I think he did a wonderful job and would highly recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Cooney is excellant, you go through everything, step by step, he and his staff are there for you answering any questions you have. After care program is awesome, including support groups that meet every month and an internet support group for those who can't make the meetings at Hershey. I would rate Dr. Cooney and his staff a 10 out of 10.
