My first impression of Dr. Powell was he was "real". Meaning that he didn't place himself on a pedistal. His office staff was awesome! Sandey and Myra were always so very nice to me!! Aftercare is VERY important to them....they plan on keeping track of me and helping me in any way possible. I believe Dr. Powells surgical competence is great and his bedside manner is reassuring that the cares. At this point i have not experienced anything negative. These of course are only my personal impressions and personal experience.

I have been to several seminars but Dr. Powell was the best. He was very personal and he even had some of his patients there to tell their stories. He had over 20 years of experience as a heart surgeon. Some of his staff has also has the surgery done by him. He did explain the risks and how to avoid them.
The only problem I had was with the insurance coordinator at his office Doris, in my opinion I did more work than she did and she did not work in a manner that was acceptable for me. She was not assertive enough with the insurance company.
Myrna got the job done and took care of everything for my surgery in a timely manner.
Overall, on a scale from 1 to 10, I give Dr. Powell a 9.5.

Very laid back and knowlegable.
One I talked with him, he had a great sense of humor, and he told us he graduated from Berkley, went to Harvard, and did his internship at Parkland. He was a heart surgeon for 25 years! ( www.weightnot.net )
Staff so friendly, they make you feel as if they have been your friend forever!
Not a thing!
He is funny, and so sweet, and really cares about getting people healthy. Almost like a father figure!
Very much so!
Yes, and they gave me a nice journal when I left the surgery center to make notes in everyday, I love it! They also refered me to a "band buddies" program to go to!
they told me all the risk and took great caution with me because I have a heart problem.
out of 1-10, he is an 11!!!!!*****
BOTH for sure, you need to feel comfortable about who you are trusting your body to.

that he was a very nice person and no impression did not change about him.his office staff were great to.he change my surgery time that night before and did not tell me untill i got there that moring.that he one great doctor.he tell you want you need to no and his office has been calling once a week checking in with me.yes he does has a structured aftercare thats one of the reason some one from his office calls once a week.he tell you the risk but it really up to you and how do you feel about it.A* i would say bedside manner

I first met the Physician assistant, he was great.
I went to the Lap Band seminar and Dr Powell was there but I did not get to talk to him much.
I went in for my pre-op exam, he did not even listen to my heart or examine me at all.
He asked me some of the routine questions, and when he asked me about my family history I told him my father died of a heart attach as well as my maternal grandfather. I also told him my sister had some kind of heart problem, but I was not sure what. He told me he wanted me to have a stress test. I called the Dr they gave me and it was going to be a 2 day test. I told them I was not going to do this as I did not feel like I had any heart problems. I have to get clearance from my PCP before I can have the surgery.

I like him and have confidence in him.
I have only met with him once besides the seminar where I first saw him so my first impression remains the same.
The office staff is very caring and supportive.
He rushed the consultation a little.
He has performed a whole lot of these surgeries.
Aftercare was discussed.
yes they have aftercare
yes
very good
all

The entire staff was wonderful. There isn't much of anything that I didn't like about them. They are always happy to answer all 100 questions, plus any extra that you think of later.
The doctor and his nurse are very good about giving you helpful hints, things you should and shouldn't do and just being there when you have questions.
If you are in this area, I would recommend that you see Dr. Powell. Oustanding doctor and team!!
The only thing I did question at first was the amount of testing, or should I say the lack of testing. I was expecting to have lots of tests to go through. I did a blood test (that actually tested everything), and that was it. For some reason I expected more. I didn't meet with Dr. Powell (just his staff) until after I was basically approved. I know that his schedule was busy.
Since this is my first time to look into this procedure, and find a doctor, I don't know what to expect really.

My initail consult visit was with Dr. Maese. Dr. Maese and his staff were very informative and helpful. I had my first appointment with Dr. Powell on the 8th of November when his nurse explained my pre-op diet and I purchased my shake. I have another appointment with his office on the 18th of November, but have not met with him yet. I was given information on my diet from pre-op to post-op, information about each differ bariatric surgery with advantages and disadvantages and what I need to do after the surgery.
