Dr.Sass, is a great man. He really wants to help. My first impression was Wow! What a great guy! He has a great bedside manner. I had some insurance troubles (just minor) and he helped as much as he could. He was very supportive of my decision. His office staff was great. He thoroughly discusses with you all the risks of the surgery, and makes you understand the changes you will need to make in your lifestyle. I rate Dr.Sass as a 10 and above. He is greta at both his surgical competence, and bedside manner. The worst part of the surgery for me was the removal of the drainage tube, he didn't prepare me for that well enough-even though the feeling only lasted for a short time, I felt as if my insides were going to come out with that tube.
I was initially leary of the actual office set up. He shared the office with an older surgeon with eccentric taste in decorating, but as soon as I spoke with Dr. Sass, I knew that he was more than capable of this surgery. He took the time to explain everything to both me and my husband - pre op and post op. Aftercare is very important and Dr. Sass maintains that he had the easy three hours - my life time commitment is the more difficult task! Dr Sass is a very compassionate, knowledgeable surgeon. I am sorry that he has moved from the Lancaster area to Philadelpia.
Dr. Sass used to work in our local hospital before transferring to PA. My sister-in-law is a nurse and had worked with him, so I knew what kind of doctor he was. He is completely FOR his patients. Nurses, insurance companies, probably even other doctors should not cross him if it means going against his patients! I only met his office staff briefly, but they seemed nice. There isn't much I didn't like about him, though it would have been nice to see him a bit more often while I was in the hospital. Had I asked to see him more, I'm sure he would have come. He makes sure you know what you're getting into and makes it a point to answer ALL of your questions. I never had any questions regarding diet, exercise or aftercare. He addressed all risks of surgery and possible outcomes. I highly recommend him!
The first impression I had of Dr. Sass would most likely be "He is different". That didn't turn out to be such a bad thing. He is definitely different than other physicians I have been under care of. But he seems REAL; I don't feel like just another patient. All I can say is I feel he is the best! He did a great job on me no problems with the surgery it's self so far. I have never had such complete and compassionate care from a physician. When you first enter his office it takes you off guard. But when you actually deal with him both pre and post op you will understand. He takes time to answer questions no matter how small or large. A future patient my want to prepare themselves to the fact that his office is very unconventional. Try not to let that scare you off. His office staff has been very kind and understanding, make me feel wanted and seem glad that I am there. He has addressed all of the risks; and I had pretty much informed myself through lots of investigating and research. He is really nice and seems to care about all of us in the office, like he wants very much to satisfy each and every patient and meet there needs and expectations.
Dr. Sass made me completely comfortable, his staff so far have been very helpful and very kind. He's got a good bedside manner which is a major plus.
Dr Sass is a very caring doctor and you do not see many doctors like him. He takes good care of his patients and is available anytime of the day.
His office staff is always friendly and go out of their way to be helpful.
I have read the comments that the others have written about Dr. Sass. There have been comments about his methods of meeting with clients right in the waiting room being "unconventional". There has been reference made to his "informal" bedside manner. There has also been a lot of "trust" and stated in these comments.

I have to say that I LOVE to go to his office and just look around at the walls...LOL Dr. Heisterkamp has the office just CHOCK FULL of things that keep you occupied and stimulated while you are there and MOST of these have a story behind them if you just bother to ask.
I have felt comfortable with Dr. Sass from the very beginning. I can discuss any and all concerns that I am having with him and feel that I am getting a totally straightforward and REAL answer from him. I have never felt as if he has avoided anything that I have asked him and feel very confident that I have made the right decision. He listened to me the first night I was in his office and has encouraged me every step of the way. He was right there to help in the "Battle of the Insurance Company" alongside my family doctor, and I am thankful that I had two such enthusiastic and caring individuals on my side to help me along my path to a new life of healthy living.
Dr Robert Sass is HUMAN, he listens, he`s been there trying to help me with my stupid insurance co denials. His staff is excellent. I feel i will be in excellent hands.
The first time I met with Dr. Sass I wasn't quite sure about him...he was much more casual than most doc's I deal with. He had just started a new practice in town so he was readily available for Q&A sessions. Soon I came to appreciate his candor and we developed a great dr/patient relationship. I was really scared about the surgery, but he seemed to understand, and tried to help alleviate my anxiety. I can't say enough about his post-op care....he was there all the time--his bedside skills are excellent as are his surgical skills. I had my RNY done laproscopically--my friends that work in the OR have said his skills in the room are the best. I would recommend anyone to see him--he's quite a character.
