Dr Bergamaschi is the best! His staff is wonderful! my husband kept insisting over the years he wanted the surgery but i always felt it was uneccasary but this year with his sugar levels going up and up we decided to do it, started to make phone calls to other doctors in the area and their staff outright stunk. they were rude and inconsiderate, i called 402-care and was told about Dr. B and called them, well Donna answered the phone and what a gem she is. we had our firts appointment in feb and by may 31st the surgery was done. my husband was back at work in two weeks. Dr. b took the time with us and discussed EVEREYTHING what a great guy. as far as results my husband was 300 pounds on may 31st 2006 today he is down to 220. Dr. B was perfect in every category there is, bedside manner, surgical competence and just a great personality. stick with Dr. B his staff will not steer you wrong.
Dr. Bergamaschi is the most wonderful surgeon! The surgery was very successful and he is one of my biggest cheerleaders! He came to see me twice a day while I was in the hospital. rnHe has a very structured after care and a follow up schedule for me. rnHe has really changed my life for the best. rnA++++++!!!!
Dr Bergamaschi was so kind, he was very direct, and insured to inform me of all the risk involved in this surgery.
His office staff was wonderful and was with me for over 2 hours answering all of my questions, going over the procedure with me and everything.
Dr B ensured me that normal pt's get out after 2-3 days, but just to be safe, he prefers to take another day with his pt's for aftercare, making sure that they are ready to go home.
Overall I feel very comfortable with him as a surgeon, and feel confident in his knowledge with this type of surgery.
Before I met Dr. Bergamaschi, I had done some research about him on the net. I asked questions when I called his office to set up my appointment. My first impression of him was of skeptisism. But he answered my questions as well as my brothers questions. He let my brother be involved from the beginning, since my brother was the one that would be taking care of me afterwards. He explained the procedure in great detail. Dr. Bergamaschi made me feel very comfortable about what I was going to be going through. His nurse, Tibby, was also very willing to answer any questions if he wasn't available. She made sure everything was sent to the insurance company and filled out properly. I had my surgery on a monday, he made sure I was up and walking the next day, to keep the blood flowing. He explained why I had to walk. When it came time to get the tests done, he explained why they were neccessary and what kind of tests they were. Once I passed the tests, Thursday, I was able to go home. I had to, and still do, walk at least a mile a day. Less than one month later, I was back in the hospital. I was one of the ones that has a complication after the surgery. I was admitted through the ER at Allegheny General Hospital. He was not going to send me home until he found out what the problem was. Dr. Bergamaschi visited me each day I was in the hospital, as did Tibby. I had tests each day that needed to be done to find out why I had bad cramps. Finally, after a week, and on a Saturday, Dr. Bergamaschi had to re-do the surgery, but go inside, instead of minimally invasive. The new intestine suture was closing as it was healing, happens to a very few people. If he hadn't been persistant in having the tests done to find out the problem, I don't think I would be here today. Since my surgery, Dr. Bergamaschi has had to remove my gallbladder. He used the same sites for the instruments. I am now 18mths Post-Op and I had my latest Dr. appt. with Dr. Bergamaschi. I haven't had a bad experience with him or his staff. As a matter of fact, I've been able to call Tibby if I've gotten bad cramps, throwing up, etc... She says she'd rather know if something happens to me since the surgery, than have something go terribly wrong with me because of the surgery. They both ask what I eat, if I take my vitamins and if I'm doing my exercises. I've followed the rules set down for me by Dr. Bergamaschi and Tibby, that is why I've been able to loose the weight I have and make the surgery a success for me. The only thing I didn't like about the surgery was the fact of the students seeing me half naked and in pain. Before I had Dr. Bergamaschi, my insurance company was different and I was going through a different hospital. I'm very happy with finding Dr. Bergamaschi and Tibby. I believe both surgical competence and bedside manner make the best doctor. I've told Tibby, if there are any patients waiting to have the surgery and want to talk to anyone who has had the surgery, they can give my name out. She also has been able to give my old clothes to some of the people that weighed more than I did and was loosing the weight, just so they didn't have to spend a lot of money on new clothes.
I think that Dr. Bergamaschi is the most wonderfull Dr in Pgh!! I was immediately impressed with Dr. Bergamaschi, I had called his office with a million questions which his nurse, Tibby, answered patiently--finally she asked if I could hold for one moment and the DOCTOR got on the phone and answered all of my questions.
When I met with him, he had a gentle, caring nature, very concerned with his patients well being. You don't feel like you are just a number, you truly matter to this wonderful man. How refreshing is that?
Through the entire process he was helpfull and compassionate. He leaves you feeling at ease and comfortable. During my hospital stay he came to see me TWICE A DAY!! How many Dr's do that?? Not many!
He thoroughly explained any complications, adressed any of my concerns and has been extremely helpfull and caring from begining to end. I think that Dr. Bergamaschi is a top rate Dr who truly cares for his patients. I trust him completely and have referred several friends to him. HE IS AWESOME!!
i felt my surgeon was great and was very honest with me from the start,he has always been there when i needed anything, his nurse tibby is wonderful i dont know how i live without her i now know why dr. b keeps her.his other staff seems to do their job well,i have no complaint about dr.b i have recommened him to friends already i was so impressed with how he stessed what i needed to do for myself that only he could do so much makes me see he wants you to work for it too that it is not a way out but a helping hand, i just love him and will hold a special place in my heart for him because him gave me my life back. thank you so much
I met with Dr. Bergamaschi on September 10th. First off - his office staff is wonderful. Colleen, his secretary, and Tibby, his nurse, have gone out of their way to answer all my questions and they do most of the leg work as well. Dr. Bergamaschi spent about 1 hour and 20 minutes with me answering all my questions and asking me many as well. I feel like he is not only a qualified surgeon, but also one with a GREAT bedside manner. He is very clear about aftercare, and wants his patients to understand that after surgery, the task is in our hands. He will support us along the way, but it's or job to get the work done. He was very honest about risks and even has you sign a form stating that he went over each detail. I would rate him a perfect 10 and can't wait to have my surgery, hopefully in November.
Dr. Bergamaschi is completely straight forward and up front with you. If you want to know something he will tell you. His staff are nothing but terrific! Aftercare is definately structured and followed up upon. He and his staff make sure you have all the tools you'll need to make your surgery a success! As far as addressing the risks, he was completely honest about them and brought them up without having to ask. He is all about the patient and letting you know exactly what you are in for. Overall, I rate him wonderful and totally competent, as well as very personable.
Surgical competence and a great bedside manor are better.
My first impression of Dr. Bergamaschi was very kind, patient and hoenst. He has a very caring staff.
He addressed the risks of surgery, all of which I knew from doing research.
He absolutely emphasizes aftercare. States that surgery is only a help, I still have to exercise and follow an eating plan.
I had my first meeting with Dr. Bergamaschi at Allegheny General Hospital on September 26, 2003. He was very informative, kind, knowledgeable, professional, patient, humorous.... etc. My appointment was for 12:30 and I was called at 12:15... 15 minutes early! Dr. Bergamaschi explained the different types of weight loss surgery in detail and took his time in answering all of my questions and concerns. He addressed all of the risks that are involved with the surgery and discussed the techniques he uses to prevent complications. Dr. Bergamaschi explained that healthy food choices and exercise would be required to maintain the anticipated weight loss. His nurse, Tibbie, was also very helpful and delightful!
Welcome to Pittsburgh, Dr.Bergamaschi!!!
I was approved for surgery on March 22, 2004 and my surgery is scheduled for April 5, 2004... So Quick! Colleen is Dr. Bergamaschi's new secretary and she handles the insurance. My first round of pre op tests were scheduled for March 23, 2004: a doppler to check for blood clots in my legs, a blood gas test, history and physical, chest x ray, EKG and blood work. I have one additional test scheduled for March 25,2004: a stomach scope.
