Ronald Sing Bariatric Surgeon M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Sing is my surgeon and he is the man who believed in me and absolutely changed my life by performing an open RNY Gastric Bypass procedure on 11/19/01. I had previously gone to another surgeon in the Charlotte area who refused to operate on me because I weighed over 400 lbs. but Dr. Sing didn’t say no when he heard how much I weighed. My consultation with him gave me insight into what a caring, intelligent, respectful man he really is and his dedication to help those who might die if not for this surgery. He was very thorough in his explanation of the procedure and made me feel at ease. He assured me that he would help with getting the insurance to cover the procedure and that he thought I was an excellent candidate for the surgery. Needless to say, the procedure went well and I owe a great deal to this talented surgeon.
He has a wonderful bedside manner and surgically is brilliant. Although his aftercare is lacking he is good about referring you to specialists in other areas that can pick up where the surgery left off.
I highly recommend him to anyone in and around the Charlotte, NC area.
Dr. Ronald Sing at Carolina's Medical Center was very good throughout my whole process, he kept me well informed, and made sure I got my skin removals when I needed them and I hope for one or two more in the future. I don't think Dr. Sing's office takes medicaid anymore(which is how I got my surgery) which is unfortunate but I had a very enjoyable experience with Dr. Sing and his staff.
Dr. Sing gives a very good first impression and his office staff was wonderful, although very overworked. He emphasizes aftercare but refers you to the appropriate specialists for it. He explained the risks of surgery and I felt confident in his surgical abilities. His bedside manner was very approachable although he has the typical ego of a surgeon.
Dr. Sing is a surgeon on the trauma team at Carolinas Healthcare. He doesn't specialize in bariatric surgery but rather has a high personal interest in performing it. As a highly regarded surgeon in this area, and not a bariatric specialist, he is understandably most interested in the surgery itself and doesn't have a specially structured aftercare program. The gastroenterologist that Dr. Sing uses at Carolinas Medical is Dr. Preston Purdham.
There is, however, a WONDERFUL WLS Support Group in Charlotte that is not affiliated with a specific doctor or hospital that I located and have been attending several months before my surgery. From these patients who had surgery from many different doctors, I learned what to expect from surgery and what I must do post-op (e.g., exercise, watching protein and vitamin levels) as well as tips of what problems they encountered and resolved along the way. I highly recommend attending a support group like this to learn from people who have been through the same thing. Through this group I've also met many good people and located my personal trainer. I've begun my regimine with my personal trainer to build muscle before the surgery and, hopefully, improve recovery time.
He was initallly very nice and upbeat. After the surgery however I rarely saw him in the hospital. I had complications but saw mostly the residents. After my discharge I had major problems and could not get him to return my calls. His office staff tried to help as best they could but my primary care physician had to step in as I was in very serious medical trouble.I got to the point that I did not trust him and went to another surgeon for my second surgery. By the time I had to have my third surgery my general surgeon talked me into going back to see him as he had done the inital surgery. After talking with the legal department at Carolinas Medical Center he was very helpful and performed my third surgery. He had no structured aftercare program at the time of my surgery. I feel now at this point the risks were mimimized by the staff but I do realize I had major complications. He is a very gifted surgeon and does have a good bedside manner. I'm afraid he was just too overworked to handle my complications adequately at the time.
On my first visit I found Dr Sing to be very exact in what to expect from surgery. He explained the procedure, the risk involved, and what to expect after.I admit that his style intimidated me a little. The second visit was bad-but it was my own fault...all the study I had done on the surgery and I hadn't learned they didn't do this surgery for smokers.Don't bother going to him if you smoke-he'll set you in your place(for your own good). When I kicked the habit and went back he was so great. His office staff is great and I just love Carla. She is so understanding.Never once in this office have I been looked at like livestock!......Dr Sing doesn't require a lot of the night before surgery things that say Dr Bauman of Concord does...(complete system flush out, several medications,ect...)At first this concerned me and then I realised that this just shows a lot more confidence in himself and his knowledge of the procedure.I think I'm in good hands...I'll update this after the surgery!!!PS-That was no slam to Dr Bauman whom I have met and believe him to be an excellent surgeon.
His name is not spelled with an H, it is spelled Sing. There are however other MD's in Charlotte that are named Singh. Ron Sing is primarly a trauma surgeon and does some WLS. The word on the street is that is is about to limit his practice to those weighing 500 lbs or more. I had my first visit two weeks ago. He had been up all night in surgery and though probally very tired he took time with me and showed great interest in being quite clear about what the procedure entailed. I felt very comfortable with him. His nurse Carla is not only personable but very competant. She is the kind of person that you immediately connect with. I have a number of appointments that she has set up so I am on the way! I called the insurance company and they seemed pretty blase, we'll see! I expect the surgery date to be set after my last "outside" appointment on May 27,2003. I met about 10 of his patients in the waiting room from first visit to 18 months post. I learned a lot and feel better as a result-thet pulled no punches about their experences.
